A cool breeze drifts across Flora Isle, mingling the sweet scent of flowers with the salty tang of the Lucidian Ocean. Well-tanned locals play on the beach, while sunburned visitors sit in wicker chairs and sip cold drinks. A half-dozen nearly naked shark hunters preparing to compete in the annual tournament stand in the shallows on the south shore, armed with harpoons and their wits.
After taking a leave from the Pearl Shrine in Port Damali. Dex went back home. He still can't bring himself to visit his early home so he walks about a bit looking for a cheap inn or boarding room. Something he hasn't been at before and is less likely to be known. Still not sure what to do or where to go, he figures a day or two of reflection and prayer will help. It is time to prepare for a journey, the start is known, the end is known but the middle is still a blur.
Being gone for some time but still knowing the area he will set off for a mid level inn and grab a room for a night or two. After that he will find a land merchant caravan and try to hire on. Its as good a plan as any at this point.
You head into a decent inn called the Jumping Clam. A middle aged man with a receding hairline and a stubby beard is reading a book at the front desk. He does not even noticed you coming in. The common room behind him is packed with people excitedly talking about the the annual tournament of the shark hunters.
Chosing to wait on booking a room, Dex walks to the man and orders up an ale.
"Greetins of Avandra to you good sir. Where may I procure a flagon of Mead or quality ale?"
Can Dex see what the book is? He will take a quick look around to see if anything stands out. Maybe a message board or anything unusual. If not he takes whatever drink he can get and move into the other room and do a quick glance at the crowd. If nothing is interesting he will find a seat and listen to the room for a bit until the drink is gone.
He closes the book. "Oh sure come on over to the bar" He weaves though the crowd and ducks under the bar. Soon enough he gives you a mug of frothy ale. "That will be 1 silver"He looks at the crowded room. "I don't think there are any empty tables. Well you can sit at the bar."
With nothing special standing out Dex will get the attention of the worker and give his greetings again.
"Greetings of Avandra to you good sir." Waiting to get some form of acknowledgement he orders up a pint of house ale and waits for a response. He thinks to himself, before I was found by Avandra I would jump this guy for being a horrible innkeep but those who Avandra oversee are life now. Once he pays he will slip and extra copper for a tip and wander around a bit.
His plan is to hang around town for a day or two before finding a caravan route to join for a bit. There is always action to be found during the tournament so he will mingle for a bit.
Out of Char: I adjusted the char sheet for coins as that seems the easiest way to track little stuff. Also I will be on a fair amount tonight as I am doins some office work for my side gig.
Sliding a pair of silver coins across the table Dex says to the keep, "Thanks to you good sir and many blessings. What are the rumors for the tourney this year? Any favorites if I was a betting man?"
"Well if I was a betting man I would say old Harvic is going to win. Don't let his old age fool you. Nothing beats experience. The tourney is starting soon. If you want to see them in action head to the southern beach. By the way my name is Jarvic"
The mass of patrons starts filing out and are presumably heading to the southern beach. There are a few that stay behind chatting away or resting with a mug of ale. What was once a loud common room has become much quieter.
"Indeed, never underestimate an old man in a business where people tend to die young." Watching the people filter out and with nothing much left to do Dex drains his mug and stands to leave.
"Please Jarvic, Avandra's blessing upon thee."
Dex walks out and meanders down toward the southern beach. Its been a few years since he watched a tourney. After a year of study and manual labor at the Pearl Shrine not having a list of duties to attend to leaves him almost floundering a bit.
He huffs to himself "If her greatness wants me to explore and learn wisdom it has to start somewhere."
Its a beautiful sunny day as walk onto the sandy southern beach. You can see the excitement in the shark hunters as they prepare for the tourney. All of a sudden the ground beneath your feet trembles and cracks. Waves a dozen feet high crash into the shore, and the sound of screaming fills the air as a stampede of beach goers flees the sands. A chorus of shrieks add to the cacophony as shark hunters run from the water, pursued by humanoid creatures with fish-like heads and slick, rubbery skin.
Recovering quickly from the unexpected events, Dex starts to move toward the creatures, looking for someone that may be able to be saved if he can intervene in time. As he starts to move toward them he calls the aid of Avandra for protection and casts Sanctuary upon himself. "Quick out of the water, run for the town!"
If there is an obvious leader he will directly move to within 120 feet of that leader and cast a guiding bolt. Holding his pendant emblazened her image he calls her might.
If there is no obvious leader the sanctuary spell should should give him up to a full minute to get into position and see where he can do the most good. Once he gets close to 45 seconds elapsed or within 60 feet of someone he can help by taking out a creature he will start with a sacred flame in the same manner. While not afraid of and not shying away from physical combat his prior combat training gives him the knowledge to keep his options open and be flexible.
You were able to save a beach goer, but the Sahuagin focuses in on you and attacks. Not everyone runs in fear though you see a green skinned person akin to goblins, but not quite. She dashes to your aid.
Initiative
1. Sahuagin
2. Dex
3. Ridani the Verdan

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Attack: 3 Damage: 3
(I think this is correct for rolls, still navagating the rules a bit)
Thinking swiftly and seeing an unexpected helper, Dex steps to the sides and pivots from a spell attack to a powerful swing with his mace. The rapid distance closure of the sea/mancreatures forces him to go old school. "Luck favors the bold!" He yells as he lifts his shield and swings a powerful swing.

Please roll initiative for combat.
4
(Stellar roll to start)

1. Sahuagin
2. Dex

The Sahuagin attacks you with its trident
Attack: 14 Damage: 3
The sahuagin missed
Attack: 3 Damage: 3
(I think this is correct for rolls, still navagating the rules a bit)
Thinking swiftly and seeing an unexpected helper, Dex steps to the sides and pivots from a spell attack to a powerful swing with his mace. The rapid distance closure of the sea/mancreatures forces him to go old school. "Luck favors the bold!" He yells as he lifts his shield and swings a powerful swing.
You should put a 4 for attack instead of 2. The damage is correct.
Try rolling again with 4 modifier for attack
