"Yeah, but intelligent enough to lair near that shrieking mushroom, and laugh at us when we stabbed it. Piercing didn't seem to effect them much."
Jon inspects his blade before sheathing it. Then he slowly looks over the oozes not touching them 7 investigation he drops some thread from his clothing onto it.. Makes a mental not that Psychic attacks and bludgeoning work.
Calwin is not very familiar with ooze or ooze like creatures. Nothing you have read has indicated whether these were typical or something more strange. Their jiggles, wiggles and giggles all remain a mystery to you.
Jonathan your thread seems to dissolve rapidly when it touches the ooze. You drop another one and it melts in a very different way. It seems these creatures can produce a variety of toxins with their touch. This is very strange and not characteristic of any ooze or slime you have ever heard of.

Although Sallah has book smarts, he doesn't have Nature proficiency.
Instead, he tries to determine where the oozes came from. Is there more of them, ready to pounce out if provoked? A nest, a hole in the ground, or were they just roaming in between the mushrooms? Investigation check: 23

You poke and prod the gap in the stone they crawled through and find a 1 inch defect in the wall that is lined with some left ooze and slime. This appears to be where they erupted from. You don't see a nest or anything structured but you do get the sense if they could fit through a gap that small it is possible they could be anywhere within the walls and if provoked or attracted to an area could appear almost anywhere.

Given that you all are the scientific experts I think it is reasonable that you would have brought a couple of test tubes to collect samples. Let's say between all of you there are 5 empty vials. It also seems like a very artificer thing to have on hand so we'll say Sallah has them.

(How about this… Empty out the infused Alchemy Jug. Fresh water or beer, whatever the party wants to drink.
Now there is an empty container, acid-resistant due to magic. Jon is responsible for emptying out the Jug and returning it when the party returns to the wagon later in the day.)

Successful in your task to gather the slime you consider your next move... deeper into the cavern or perhaps the ooze have wilted your resolve and now you shall retreat back to the warmth of your beds ;)
Sallah: "Let's head deeper into the cavern. More time exploring will let me sleep better at night."

You move forward past the fungal mat down the cavern which grows with subtle heat. The sandy ground before you is dotted with pools of bubbling black tar. To the left, a shallow pool of silty water stretches across one open passageway, and another passageway is visible straight ahead. Through the screen of rising heat, you can see a winged creature about the size of a man, with a large red crest rising from its head about 40 feet ahead of you. It is perched on the arcing white rib of some unfortunate beast that fell victim to the tar pits. The creature caws at it's meal but does not appear to have noticed you... yet....

"It laughed at me? I didn't hear it, but I got the last laugh there."
Calwin ponders what he knows of oozes, and whether what we've seen has been typical. Not his particular field of study...
Nature: 7
"Oh! I forgot about the symbols, don't think that warrants alerting the other crews we've been attacked though."
((Jiggle vs giggle?))

Jon turns to the wagon "Anyone have an empty bottle?"
He says to his friends "How about you guys? We should get a sample of this ooze it might be useful as long as we can bottle it."
(Maybe the use of mage hand by someone?)
