"We can talk better at the tavern, maybe we shouldn't talk you know, right next to the dead bodies, the ones we just created.... with guards probably incoming... can we please go now?" Io says while looking around her checking for what's around her, checking for guards. "Also, sorry for my attack hit you too i really didn't meant it" she says while then looking at the orc
Uce shakes it off and chuckles at Io. "We work with spellcasters and we've been hit with worse."
Aingael and Uce offer to lead the two of you back to the inn. You don't feel like anyone has followed you. As you get inside, Aingael points to a table hidden in the corner. "We can go right there."

The mace won't be of any use for Merrick, especially considering his height, so he leaves it, but takes the coins. The thug won't need them anyway, so let's just consider this a compensation for the thugs attacking them. "How do you want to share it?" Merrick asks Io, showing her the coins.
When they get to the inn again, Merrick takes the place at the table. He remembers, that last time here some people overheard their conversation, so he leans closer towards his interlocutors and speaks even quieter, almost whispering.
"So, we all have the same goal. Well, not exactly the same, but close - my friend and I are gathering information about someone from the same noble family, which is likely responsible for several kidnappings. As I know, they're looking for brides, and the one of them still haven't found one, so it's possible, that another kidnapping happens sometime in the near future. In this case, do you want to join forces? Then everybody can achieve their goal.
There's also one thing bothering me - our goal is to find information about a person by the name of Grolin, at first I thought that "Grislin" could just be his stage name, but it looks like they are two different people, correct me if it's wrong. And... Where did this daughter's disappearance happen, in this city, or somewhere around here? These nobles are using hired henchmen to carry out their plans, and I thought if we managed to catch one of these henchmen, we could get some information about the whereabouts of the missing victims. But to do that we'll need to know who is their next target.
Anyway, before thinking of any plan we need to compare all the information we already have. When did that noble's daughter disappear? You're still looking for her? Did she or her relatives know Grislin personally?"
"I don't think so," Aingael said. "It's likely she was just visiting and was taken. Also I think Grislin is his name. Grolin might have been something someone else called him. Either way, he seems dangerous. Is there any additional information you can help us with. How did you get wrapped up in this?"

“Grislin still haven’t found a bride, so he probably isn’t the one responsible for this daughter’s vanishing, but his relatives surely could be. Of course we can’t say for sure yet if this version is true, but if we assume they’re really behind all this, then all the victims must be in their mansion or where this noble family lives. How did we get into this case? Grislin’s accomplice was after one of our companions, but luckily we managed to stop him.
So, what do we do next… Io, last time at the inn you suggested asking the guards about recent disappearances in the city. Shall we try this now?”
"hhmmm... Dividing the coins i would say half for each but with our new friend... one third for each, what do you think? if there's any remaining coins that can't be divided i'm ok with getting the lesser share" she sighs, then rubs her head"hhmmm....." "Yeah we can try that, and hopefully we don't get chased of the city, or worse, on our defense, i'm pretty sure they attacked us firs...." Io then stops, does a confused face, then looks at Aingael "We work with spellcasters.... WE.... there's more of you? Or did i misunderstood something?"
Aingael points to himself and Uce. "We have an office in Exandria so there's more of us but they're not here. I figure we can talk to the guards, but choose your words carefully."

"Understood. In this case we could still pretend to be looking for someone, just don't mention Grislin or anyone related. Would this be convincing enough for the guards to share the information? Maybe, they would be more likely to believe it, now that we have real detectives with us." Merrick stands from his place. "Then shall we depart, if there is nothing else to discuss?"
"Yes let's go, and let us pray that the guards don't realise who we are talking about" Io turned to Aingael"Meanwhile tell us about your office, i have to admit i'm quite curious about it. If it is ok to tell us that is"
Aingael nodded as he and Uce stood up and led everyone out of the inn. "We work in the Menagerie Coast in the world of Exandria, though we recently opened an office in Whitestone. There are about six of us, including Uce and I. I started the office as a way to hone my skills and help find missing people. I've worked for different people, including council officials and crime bosses."

The four of you begin to go through town and speak with some folks. Aingael is taking the lead with mentioning the missing girl but also letting you ask questions and not mentioning Grislin. Most folks haven't heard anything but then you get to a street where there's missing papers, several of them with different girls. It's centered around one house. A guard tells you that a woman was hanging them up because her daughter Reena went missing a month ago.
He points to a small town house in between shops, a tannery and a bakery. As you walk by, Aingael points to the bakery. "I hear someone crying in there. I think it might be her. Do you wish to go speak with her?"

"Are you sure it's really her? Then it would be useful to talk to her. But what do we say? Could we offer to look for her daughter? I'm pretty sure all missing people are somewhere in the same place anyway. Although a month is quite a long term, so it might not necessarily be connected to our case. We should probably ask about when did her daughter disappear - where she presumably was, with whom was she interacting recently."
Io puts her hand on Merrick's shoulder "Calm... let's go talk with her" Then she enters the bakery and looks for the crying woman and then goes to her "Excuse me madam, why are you crying?" "It's probably her but just in case better to ask" Io says to herself
The woman stops for a moment and turns to Io. The baker turns to Io as well, this time a little angry. "Excuse me, you shouldn't walk up to someone like that."
The crying woman holds out her hand. "It's okay. It's just my Millie is missing. I haven't seen her in weeks. I just I knew where she was."

Aingael come in and talks to the woman, who explains her daughter went missing weeks ago. She spoke of meeting a friend near the forest and didn't return. Aingael asks if they can look at Millie's room the mother nods. She rises and walks out of the bakery to her house, unlocks it and says the bedroom is upstairs. Aingael goes up and Uce follows.

"Went to meet the friend and disappeared? This sure sounds very familiar... Last time we encountered something similar." Merrick also heads to the room to look for clues. Firstly, it would be useful to know who that friend was, so he searches in cabinets and drawers for something like a diary. Of course, reading someone's diary is not a polite thing, but now it's necessary for the investigation. Besides, they don't need to read everything - just last entries to know who was this Millie's friend.
Merrick, as you read the diary, you notice one of the last entries is written in a language you can't understand. You deduce that she wrote this in a different language because you think someone's been reading her diary.
