Drez, still rather confused about what just happened, gives a small smile. He nods at the rogue's words, but doesn't remark on them. At this point he's kind of at a loss for words.
He watches as Robin attempts to pick the lock. When the lock pick breaks and Robin explains that there are five men waiting behind the door--potentially waiting for Gwen, he says, "How far in has Gwen come? She seemed uncertain as to whether or not she would be able to get into the manor in the first place..." He shakes his head, then says, "Perhaps...Vex! Wait, don't..." When the Dragonborn approaches the door with his crowbar and promptly pries the door open (I'm assuming), Drezmir also jumps to the side. He nods to Jess, placing himself in front of her to keep her out of the front line. He still hasn't fully recovered from the fight with the wolves, but that didn't matter at the moment.
Kocino watches the exchange with Vex. He was on Gilded’s side just an hour ago. Why the change? As the thoughts run through his mind he notices Vex opening the door. “Damn.”
As Gilded tells Robin how he feels and Corvus laughs behind him, Gilded will spin on Corvus and tell him rather bluntly.
"If you do not see the difference, then your moral code is no better than his. How dare you compare us to him. No one in this group has ever attacked a person of this town without provocation. Maybe you don't remember because you were too busy worrying only about you, but we even tried to resolve our issues with the Jett brothers without violence, Then they attacked us, just before Robin would have attacked us."
Gilded looks around the room, but comes back to give Corvus his entire attention. "How dare you compare us to him. No one in our group, that I have seen, except maybe you, have stolen or tried to harm anyone else since I have met them. You try to compare Vex to Robin, Vex may have done things in his past that I do not agree with, but I didnt see it, I wasn't there. I have been here to see Robin steal and assault others without reason or provocation and up til now, I have seen no indication that he feels that he was wrong, saying he misjudged Gwen is not admitting he was wrong. I am quite shocked that you think of yourself no better than that."
Then Robin mentions he never harmed anyone til they drew first blood and Gilded will return to him. "So anything less than killing or attacking is not considered bad by you? You can just take and steal from anyone you want, then say.. well, I didn't kill them? Thats a really high bar you have set for yourself. Is that the law you think you could abide by, I can do whatever I want, but I wont kill anyone. Bah,
"You hide in the bushes like a coward to attack a person you don't know on the highway just to make a point to her brother? You call me self righteous, Im not sef righteous, Im just not self centered. You tried to steal from us because you THOUGHT we would just come in take quests and then steal from others? What kind of horrible logic is that? You made no effort to find any truth about anyone, you just go by what you THOUGHT they might do. But then you have the nerve to stand in front o me and call me self righteous, sure you wouldn't rather go hide behind a door and attack me when Im not looking?"
Gilded looks at his companions, obviously disappointed in them.
"If this group thinks you are worthy to join us then so be it, I will not fight them about it. But know this, you are not nearly as worthy as anyone here to me." He looks at his freinds in turn. "I have stood and fought and bled with you all. Do you think Robin would stand in front of giants and wolves for you? Do you think he has your best interest at heart? Has he shown that he has anyones best interest other than his own in heart? You are making a mistake in trusting him, he is a coward and a thief, nothing more."
Gilded will step back after he says this. Listening as Drez, and Corvus, then unbelievably, even Jess is taken in by this cowardly criminal. Drez is obviously the kind to open up and trust anyone, that is who he is. Corvus is possibly no better than Robin and Gilded can see the bond between them. But Jess, that is a hard one for him, she seemed different, not to be taken in by a bit of flirting.
Then Robin starts sobbing like a baby. 'More playacting to get sympathy.' Gilded thinks. 'This man will stop at nothing."
Then Vex also embaces Robin. Gilded is truly hurt that everyone in the party, save Kocino who doesn't get in the middle of much, has betrayed him for Robin.
Gilded, as his opinion doesn't seem to matter to the group anyway, will walk to back of the room as the cowardly Robin tries to pick the lock, then Vex goes with his crowbar and all hell is starting to happen he hears Jess say. "Someone get in front of me." He thinks to himself, 'hmmm maybe Robin will. be your hero now'
It hurts Jess to see that Gilded is upset by her actions. She hopes to be able to talk to him about her motives if they survive the act of Vex breaking the door open.
(This will have happened before my last few posts.)
Corvus looks at Gilded with an irritated flat gaze. "We all have our demons, just because you can't see them doesn't mean they aren't there. To judge people only on what you see of them is foolish. And to be honest. You don't know me any better than I know you or anyone else here for that matter. We've been traveling together for what? A few days? That is not nearly enough time to fully gain someone's trust in my opinion. You judge Vex kindly because he has acted kind around you? What if it is all an act?" He scowls at the Dragonborn, "I do not feel it necessary to explain myself to you. Judge me as you wish. Judge us all as you wish. It will not change anything."
Robin looks at Vex a bit.. Mortified to hear he's killed so many. Though he shakes his head, he knew he had no right to judge another.
"Gwen made it far into the second floor, I suppose she underestimated her fighting spirit. Even she didn't think she'd make it that far. Course my men were able to help her as well."
Robin states to Drezmir before responding to Vex.
Yeah I suppose thats fai-"
Despite Robin mentioning the guards Vex comes to the door (with high athletics) he easily slams the door open! Robin backs up drawing his bow in a hurry.
"Are you mad?!" He hadn't meant to sound rude but.. He was shocked using a crowbar with brute force was his main approach. It was clear why his kill count was so high it appeared stealth was not his forte. Gilded had really let Robin have it, Robin had let this words soak in. It was clear rage and maybe even a bit of pain was on his face. Jess had asked for someone to stand in front of her. Robin was surprised by her demand but she was a ranged fighter such as he. Gilded had not stepped in front of Jess it seemed to Robin. Was he.. Angry at her?
19 Insight on Gilded for Robin.
The dragonborn took to the front but he seemed angry even with his comrades. Robin cursed under his breath putting his bow on his back and drawing his shortsword he ran in front of Jess in a hurry.
"I'm not a big hulking dragonborn but.. I hope I can at least suffice"
Robin knew how to fight up close and he was quick with a blade. He's trained in close quarters but he was still a bit nervous. Vex had stated they outnumbered the enemy. "Did no one hear me say there was at least a dozen guards?" Robin sighed softly, he felt he'd be more useful firing arrows from the back but.. He wouldn't ignore Jess's request. Not after Drezmir and her had heard him out. As the door flies open many of the guards who had prepared for an ambush (As Robin said) prepared to attack at Vex!
OOC Can Jess roll stealth to get on the side of the wall since Vex's 20 means he easily slams that sucker open xD
Also reminder of last post
"There is at least a dozen guards behind this door (Door to room 5) and they seem prepared to ambush Gwen and her men in case they reach this far as a precaution."
At least a dozen men
For this fight I will be using MOB DMG rules. Otherwise the battle will take forever.
I don't know if anyone knows Mob rules but they share an Initiative (They have the same Initiative/stats etc)
It's in page 250 in the DMG. They have to use numbers to get "Guaranteed hits" And the higher they have to roll to hit a certain AC the more numbers it takes.
For example Gilded has 19 AC If an enemy has +4 it takes a 15 to hit.
Meaning it takes 4 mobs to guarantee one hit on Gilded.
OOC Unless Gilded can roll Deception of 20 or higher. If he rolls a 19 I'll say it's a half win for both sides.
So 19 or 20 Robin has a pretty good idea of Gilded's feelings towards his party being and just how angry he is. So he'll stick to his choice of standing in front of Jess.
(OOC: Gildeds AC is now 21 with spell Also, group, or mob, attacks means they are all attacking just one person. So in this scenario, you can give them all the same init, but they would only be a mob if all of them were attacking Gilded. Or you could have several mobs, each mob attacking each target. Say 10 are attacking Vex, then 5 are attacking Robin, and 5 are attacking whomever)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The guards were all wearing chainskirts and wielding rapiers with feathered hats. They appeared to be trained fencers and there was exactly twelve of them. (Whenever it is their turn) they all strike out to Vex! (I'll change this in case a few people do go before them and knock some out.) Vex is able to block six of the guards attacks but however he cannot stave off the other six! (Any hits passed him being KO'd will transfer somewhere else in the party.)

OOC You can see there are 12 of them. And they can split there attacks up to hit multiple enemies as long as they meet the numbers requirement in page 250.
When they can no longer meet those requirements (By losing too many numbers) they start using dice rolls instead.
Gilded's deception does not hide his feelings towards Robin it seems. Meaning Robin will stay beside Jess at this moment.
They have a +4 to hit so for hitting Vex they need a 12. Which by the DMG means it takes 2 units to guarantee a hit.
Also with Mob rule combat they cannot land any critical hits on the party. (Also DMG actually)
OOC So the first six attacking Vex he blocks 3 of them and the other 3 take that chance to run him over and knock him out. Leaving six attackers left. They attack at Gilded who stands in their way.
So with DMG it takes 5 of them to guarantee even one hit.
So the leftover person has to roll an attack since he can't meet requirements. (As there is 6)
16

3
Damage for the guaranteed hit.

Now this only applies if Gilded is at the doorway blocking them. If he has taken a step back to not be the defender this time. They will make it in and choose a target randomly
1: Jess
2: Drezmir
3: Corvus
4: Gilded
5: Kocino
6: Robin

This roll will decide whom they attack.
Also if they do attack Gilded that is six attacks which even blocking attacks in DnD gotta roll to maintain concentration.
So gotta pass 6 DC10 con saves to keep up shield of faith. If he loses it I will not recalculate the attacks for more hits. I'll say it lasted long enough to protect him till the last strike. (Might not be RAW but Mob fights can be mean to concentration spells so yeah)
(OOC: Gilded will take the doorway, he is a paladin after all and would assume it is his duty to do so even if he is mad at the group. What is everyones intiative? And I posted in our chat, if you could explain the mob damage thing.)

"You fool!" Corvus hisses as he retreats to a more strategic position farther away from the door.
Kocino watches the exchange with Vex. He was on Gilded’s side just an hour ago. Why the change? As the thoughts run through his mind he notices Vex opening the door. “Damn.”
He ducks and whispers, “Popsicle.” Casting Armor of Agathys
“We outnumber them. We can do it, if this ends violently, we will win. If this ends peacefully, we also win.”
As Gilded tells Robin how he feels and Corvus laughs behind him, Gilded will spin on Corvus and tell him rather bluntly.

They are in the room now so she isn't obscured BUT
she can hide behind Robin as her frame is small enough to obscure so that can work for her stealth ^^
We shall see if Gilded bottlenecked the door. Or let them in.
(So is Corvus down? Or is that just if Gilded doesn’t block the door.)
Also Initiative for the familiar: 4
OOC
So Corvus will only take the damage of the 3 remaining guaranteed hits. (As it takes 2 for a guaranteed hit for him as well)
8

8
22 damage if Gilded doesn't block the doorway which just barely downs him yes.
Course if the attacks of opportunity's take a few out than it'd just be a 6 and a 8 for 14 damage and he'll be fine.
Fencer Unit: 21
Gilded: 19
Familiar: 12
Corvus 8
Jess: 3
Vex: Downed. (Initiative don't know)
Also Vex may have taken 3 hits but it actually took 6 guards. So a half of dozen guys to take him down.
He blocked 3 of them.
So basically it took a half dozen dudes running him over to take him out.
If it helps the other half dozen will KO Corvus too if none get handled or Gilded takes the front.
Plus Vex got unlucky the first hit was max damage roll of 10 damage all together so that first hit was a big ouch.
(OOC: Gilded will take the doorway, he is a paladin after all and would assume it is his duty to do so even if he is mad at the group. What is everyones intiative? And I posted in our chat, if you could explain the mob damage thing.)
