“Could we request an audience because we had caught wind of the troubles with dragons, and wish to offer our services, and relay what information we have already learned? The advantage of this tack is that it’s totally honest. The disadvantage is that we could be playing directly into a subversive Vintsvents’ hands, though I’m not sure how we can avoid that.”
“On that note, too, we may be in some danger here. If we do split up for the day, I would at least suggest nobody goes alone.”
Corvus rolls up the map and tucks it in his satchel close to where he keeps Simon's orb, then looks back at Jess. "If we are going to figure any of this out, we have to speak with them one way or another. Hmmm, I wonder if they would know who we are. The guards didn't, but that doesn't mean the Vintsvents don't. If Simon could watch through that rouge Robin's eyes, whose to say these Vintsvents couldn't see through his?" He leaves his satchel slightly open, so he can easily summon the orb if need be. As he pulls his hand away, Crow, the pseudodragon, stations himself near the opened section as to ward off any would be pick-pockets. "If they do know who we are, then yes, visiting them may well be walking into the dragon's jaws. If they do not? Well, then I do not see any danger, unless we openly announce ourselves...or those guards go ahead and spread the word. Hmmm, even if they do not proclaim us as the 'Heroes of Glazing Winds', the Vintsvents may be alerted to our presents if the guards simply state that two knights of Glazing Winds have entered the city." He addresses the entire group, though he focuses more on Jess. She was the tactician of the group after all. "The question is, would it be better to leave them wondering who brought down their hound, or should we simply jump down the dragon's throat? At least that way we would know for sure they'd want us dead. Heh, they may even see us faster if they know who we are....although...they may not even know that we are aware of their hand in the whole ordeal. They were supposed to be allies of glazing winds correct? Perhaps we have simply come to explain to them what transpired there." He chuckles grimly.
Kocino gives it a moment of thought. “We could also go about it as we did in Glazing Winds. Spend some time in town, make a bit of a name for ourselves, gather some more information, and gain the trust of the regular people. Then we start making bigger moves.”
Jess thinks of how the guards reacted to Corvus's proclamation, that this was the groud that "aided Glazing Winds". Did the guards show recognition of what he said? Did they take note of anything significant in the statement? Are they likely to report to others the entry of knights from Glazing Winds? Was she able to discern anything from them at the time of the encounter?
Drez listens as his companions give their opinions, "I like that idea Jess. And..." He gives Corvus a nod, "you have a good point. Though I'm thinking we are just going to have to take the risk and trust that if it lands us in the belly of the beast that we can get ourselves out." He looks to Kocino, "That is a good plan too...but, the question is--do we have enough time? We don't know much about the enemy we are trying to track down, but I have a feeling the longer we wait the stronger they will get. Who knows, that woman and the drug could very well be connected to the dragon that has this city on such high alert."He pauses for a moment, scanning the streets as if searching for something before saying, "Perhaps we could do both. We don't know how long it would take to get an audience with the Vintsvents, so we could see about scheduling one using Jess's proposal. While we wait, we do as Kocino suggested and try to make a name for ourselves--assuming we have time for that. Either way, I have a feeling that the meeting itself won't be affected to much whether we've made a name for ourselves or not. However, if we do manage to win favor here, it could give us a bit of a safety net--by which I mean, the Vintsvents might have to think twice before trying to get rid of us. ...possibly anyways."
“That sounds fine, very pragmatic. And if we’re looking to establish ourselves as do-gooders, we could start with the merchant who entered on our coat-tails, he says he has a vermin problem or something.”
Jess has a feeling the guards knew a little of Glazing Winds trouble and maybe a story or two. However it seems there was much more those two guards specifically hadn't really known. It seems the group had decided to find the merchant! This of course was after much debate and talking, the group passing by the Shining Guild and other buildings they come to a large building called "Dragons Forge"
A place for arms and weapons, the group may also recall some of their rewards had called for coming here and to the armor smith. Dorothy's Guardian, such as Jess's Dagger and Gilded's armor. Beside the rather professional and large looking blacksmith was.. A smaller dinky looking wagon and upon it? Augustus was waving the party down!
"Hah! So you guys decided to show! Wanna take a look at my wares before you help me out with my problem? I'm willing to give a 50% discount on the first item you purchase! As way of thanks for helping me!"
OOC I sadly do forget what other gifts were to be at the capital besides an improved dagger and plate armor. I can of course scroll back and look though ^^
If they look at Augustus's Goods this is what he has.
Bag of Holding: 500GP
Potions of Healing: 40 GP a piece (Has 4 of them)
Sending Stones (A Pair): 500GP
He also appears to have several weapons none of which however seem magical. (Player handbooks Weapons) Such as lances/longswords and the like.
Drez smiles, "Alright, its settled then. I suppose we could go meet that merchant and then decide on an inn to serve as a meeting location. Once we get rooms situated for ourselves, then we can split up if everyone likes. I'll go see about trying to get an appointment with the Vintsvents... Though I would prefer if someone could come with me, someone who knows this culture a little better then I do."He chuckles, and looks to Gilded only to notice that the Dragonborn seems distracted. (I'm assuming he'll say goodby before he heads out. And Gilded I believe is our only party member who is from Radiance right? That's why Drezmir was hoping that he would come with him to schedule the appointment.)
"You alright Gilded?" He asks as they all make their way towards the Merchant.
(If Gilded leaves here, Drezmir will be feeling a bit down. He'd been hoping that Gilded could help him out with getting the hang of this knight business, but not only that--Gilded was a good friend. He was one of the first members of their party that Drez had spoken to, so it's rather sad to see him go. Even so, Drez will give him the same farewell he gave to Sloden when he'd left. "Goodby friend, I hope we will meet again." Everyone has their own destiny to follow, and Drez won't get in the way of that even if it means Gilded leaving. "May you find what you seek and may your god continue to smile down on you.")
Drez gives the merchant a small smile, and looks curiously at his wears. He doesn't particularly need anything, but the sending stones do catch his eye. During the fight on the mountain, he'd thought about how useful it would have been to have contact with their other group. Still, even with a fifty percent discount he wouldn't be able to afford them, it would have to be a group decision. The bag of holding was also tempting...but he would never own enough stuff to warrant needing one. The healing potions...gods know they need as many of those as they can get their hands on.
He looks to his comrades, "The sending stones could be useful, but I don't know if any one of us could afford them. We'd have to go in on them together. If no one else thinks they're necessary thats fine. Its just a thought."
Juzi didn't understand much about what the others spoke about. He perked up though when he heard Jess mention the seller-man. He moved with the group and, upon seeing the merchant, grew super excited at his determination that these people clearly thought he had good ideas. Juzi moved to be right in front of Gud Sir Gust. "Juzi say Juzi need clohdes. You say you have clohdes for Juzi if Juzi come here. Juzi no see clohdes." He cocked his head and eyebrow to give the man a neutral, yet questioning look, "Where clohdes, seller-man?"
Sy looks towards Gilded. “You don’t seem like your usual self, is everything alright? Actually, now that I think of it, you haven’t been yourself since the so-called ‘dragon’ fight.” Sy says this as serious and sophisticated as always, with a slightly worried tone to the words that he speaks.
Corvus follows the group in silence. He's clearly not happy that they seem to be putting off talking to the Vintsvents. He agrees with Drezmir for once. Time is of the essence, and trying to make a name for themselves could very well prove as a waste of time. His mood is such that he doesn't realize that the Paladin is saying his goodbys until he's walking away from the group. Corvus has mixed feelings as he watches the dragonborn leave. On one talon, he'd been a huge help in all of the fights, on the other...well he had been a nuisance. Well, at least they seem to have acquired a new meat shield.
He let's out an audible sigh as the group comes across the Merchant. He glances over the man's wares, but nothing really peaks his interest. He waits a moment to see what his companions say in response to the merchant's request. He for one had not come here to take care of anyone's pest issue.
Kocino takes a look at the wares. “Half price? Hmm… I‘d be interested in the Sending Stones and I may have a few items to trade as well. If you are interested, of course.”
Corvus sighs again but digs through is belongings. He also has a few things that he wouldn't mind exchanging for coin. Suddenly that bag of holding seems tempting, but he would hate to spend all his gold on such a thing. He shakes his head. No. He will save his gold. Then he looks at the Merchant, "I also have some items that I would like to sell." He does not comment on the merchant's problem. Perhaps if he avoids the subject long enough, his companions will become to occupied with shopping to remember it.
Items to sell: (A light Crossbow, a dagger, leather armor, and his original arcane focus.)
Jess will head next door and look into the reward that was arranged for her, something about improving her dagger. She has the hero medal to present, if necessary.
The man had looked to Juzi for a moment with a light chuckle as he pointed to the store.
"In Dawn City around this quarter.. Adventerer's rarely care for clothes so I forget. But in Dragon's Forge, William has my attire choices and a few fancy outfits if you're into that sorta thing buddy! Tell him the Raven Flies West, he'll give you a free outfit on behalf of me! Also on top of that you're party may purchase one item at half off as I owe you!"
The merchant had looked to Kocino and to Drezmir.
"The Sending Stones, a fine choice! If you wish to sell anything here you may! Of course without a traders license I will buy anything you have 50 percent marked off.. Nah 20 percent marked off! Ahh, my good bird fellow yes I can see what you got!"
As Jess enters the main building away from the merchant, there is a large red Dragonborn. Worn and missing one eye while wearing heavy armor, he gave a grizzly chuckle as Jess had shown him her medal.
"I see.. So it seems you were told I could work on a reward huh? Yeah I can work on you're dagger, give me a few hours... I owe Glazing Wind.. Gwen a favor."
OOC Anything you sell will sell for 20 percent less than their full worth on the players hand book ^^
When Jess returns in a few hours her dagger will be one level higher! ^~^
"20% is fine." Corvus grumbles as he puts the items on the counter. He knows that this is probably one of the better deals in the city. While he still was hoping to get a few more coins off this guy, he's happy to have gotten rid of the extra weight.
Juzi gets close to the merchant to look at him in the eyes. He said nothing verbally, but his expression changed from one of surprise, to mild frustration, to blown out cheeks with resolve. Finally, he makes a continuous nodding motion as he turns away from the man, dismissing him. His nodding continues a moment as he turns to face Drezmir. He pulls out a few fine beast pelts (DM's choice) and puts them in Drez's hands. "Buy shiny big treasure. Juzi help! Juzi say tank you." With that he turns back to the seller-man, "Tank you Gud Sir Gust!" his tone was deliberate and final.
Juzi backed away and turned his attention to Jess. He motioned shyly at her as he moved himself a few feet away from the group to sit down as he had before her previously. (If Jess decides to take his meaning and come over to him he will continue as follows)
"Jess, Jess. Juzi need help." He looks up to her with an odd mix of both distress and relief that she seemed to care about his plight. "Seller-man say Juzi get fr-frih-ffwee-ee, ffan-cee, tire at D-Dwagon Forge-ee. See Wil-yum."Juzi's eyes rolled up partially to snatch his last important detail from flittering around back there. He glanced at the merchant and then back, "Need say... Raben Fwies West." He let out a sigh of relief at getting through those verbal gymnastics, but he wasn't finished. The enormity of everything that had happened to him this day (and continued to happen) bled through Juzi's imploring look. "Juzi need clohdes so Juzi see fahdder and muhdder. Juzi need be big shiny Juzi for Fahdder and Muhdder. Juzi Try! Juzi no know how try." Worried that he might have lost her, he stopped. He just looked up to her now hoping she understood what he was trying to say.
Jess suggests,
“Could we request an audience because we had caught wind of the troubles with dragons, and wish to offer our services, and relay what information we have already learned? The advantage of this tack is that it’s totally honest. The disadvantage is that we could be playing directly into a subversive Vintsvents’ hands, though I’m not sure how we can avoid that.”
