The man still stands his ground, "You can't protect me from them. They have a new leader and Alvernia is going to march a flock of sheep into the jaws of a great wolf."

Crispy keeps her hand on the trigger of one of her hand crossbows, ready to take action just in case things get hairy. Things always do, and, in a way, she's hoping they kinda do. But, just in case, she'll try and gain some insight from his behavior:
Solomon casts a glance toward Crispy and holds his hand up as if to say, “Hold on.” “This leader, what is it. Is it the lizardmen? Do they have a new leader?”

At the mention of Commander Talvus, the soldier drops his shield and makeshift spear, "Oh, praise that magestic bull. Me and a dozen others were sent on a scouting mission to see if the road ahead of our furthest outpost was clear. The lizardmen were expecting us with an ambush and we fell quick. The few that remained were dragged away and locked in their city as offerings. Some were rituallistically butchered, others were taken away somewhere. A few of us - me and three others - escaped and ran like hell. Our captors pursued and we took shelter in a cave about two hours from here. We thought we were safe, but we just stumbled into a bigger trap. I woke to screaming and saw an evil shade sucking the life from one of my comrades. Before we knew it, a new specter rose from her body and killed another. I grabbed the only other alive and we ran. The lizardmen were ready, though. They lept from the bushes, but I was able to escape due to the sacrifice of my allies." The man is very clearly shaken by the event. His fatigue is apparent as he seems to have been running through the night without much pause.

"Hey slow down, don't hurt yourself anymore." Evelyn mutters a few words in an unknown language under her breath. (She is casting Healing Word on the man.) He'll be no use if passes out or goes into shock.
Crispy edges her hand off the crossbow slightly, but doesn't take her eyes off the man, who is clearly shaken. She didn't see any reason to intimidate or push him around. Yet. She'll let the others do the talking, but she'll do what she does best. And that usually involved investigation..and killing. This guy didn't look like he could be shook down any more.
The woods are calm around you with no indication of the lizardmen pursuing.
Solomon recalls the story of an expedition to find the lair of a long-forgotten sorcerer. The jounal was discovered years later, covered in blood. The one who found the journal made a note at the end about the area being haunted as well. Further details are difficult to recall without the text on hand.
