The party breaks contact with one last volley of bolts sailing by harmlessly. Enough distance is gained there there is no need for a sprint to the next gate. As you move, Talvus finally relents, "You must have a lot of questions. What I can tell you is this: We are facing demons of my past and odds which I had not even anticipated. In the beginning, there were five of us. Three siblings, Valen, and myself. The siblings came from an ancient commune of exiled elves, Eladrin I think they called themselves."
"Well, their people fell to ruin centuries ago, but these siblings came across something amazing: the tomb of their former leader Maledrith the Steward. When we found it, it was not a tomb, but a prison. The people that had exiled them had hunted them across the planes and wiped them from the face of this world. As it turned out, they weren't entirely destroyed. My companions were the few left of their people and Maledrith was being held captive by their former king." Talvus pauses a moment, checks behind him, then continues with the rest.
"We...I, at least, had no idea that the Elvish king was as much the jailor as the captor. What I was told was he hunted the exiles for their heretical belief and believed a new source of power they discovered was to be used as a weapon of revenge. In reality, this was only half-true. Together, we overpowered the king, and began to set Maledrith free. For our service, we were gifted a fragment of Maledrith's power. He had become more than a Steward, he was The Ascended. No sooner was the blessing imparted did the king-jailor swear to never allow Maledrith to be free. The Ascended's conciousness was scattered across the multiverse, and us across this world.
"I had been lucky enough to grab the bastard and I ripped him halfway across land and sea with me. For days we fought, with blades then words. I came to realize the power of The Ascended - of Maledrith - was always known, but it was the intent that led to exile. Whether rulership and conquest was the original intent or not, Maledrith sought it in exile."
As the party approaches the eastern gatehouse, an approaching vanguard can be seen only several-hundred yards away. The premature signal fire had led Bründir to begin his advance too early. Atop the gatehouse, a single figure - a woman in long robes - is silhouetted against the roaring flame. She turns and moves to the edge of the gatehouse as you all approach, "Talvus, it's good to see you...traitor." A group of 10 armored footmen similar to the ones before charge from the structure to block your advance.
Talvus seems to go pale before steeling himself with blade in hand, "Myschael the Tempest. Friends, I suggest you strike hard and fast. No one has ever been able to withstand this storm for long before." The woman raises a hand and a flare sails into the night sky. In response, a flaming arrow rises from within the city, and the keep comes to life in a multitude of torch flames.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Though the first arrow went wide, the second seemed on course. A faint flash in the night, like a spark of metal on stone, seemed to erupt as the missile came near Myschael and passed by harmlessly.
(You're about 40' from the gatehouse. The squard of soldiers are 3-wide on the wall and the closest rank is 20' away.)
Myschael's hands raise and fire appears to bleed from her wrists and hands. Weaving the liquid flame, she creates a trio of darts two feet long and hurls them at Evelyn in retaliation.
As the bolts strike true, Talvus calls up to the gatehouse, "Myschael, I thought I was your enemy here! Or do you find your power is only impressive to those beneath you?"

Solomon mutters, “And there’s my opening,” to himself before releasing a massive detonation of magical energy from his arm. 5th Level Unable to parse dice roll., combined with 2nd Level Alchemical Casting. The bolts streak through the air for 98 force damage total!
(Good Lord...)
Edit: I accidentally did the wrong tooltip for Magic Missile, so it changed the damage, it was 147 force damage.
The barrage from Solomon's spell is enough to tear a gaping hole through the top of the gatehouse. Screams can be heard from within as soldiers scramble to comprehend why their world had literally just collapsed on top of them. Myschael is nowhere to be found.
With a roar, Talvus seizes the initiative caused by the confusion and charges the grouped soldiers with a primal roar. (Bonus: Raging; Allies have advantage on melee attacks vs. targets 5' away from Talvus, Attack: 32 for 15, 16 for 18)
One soldier is cleaved by the charging minotaur and another receives a debilitating backswing. In the tight space, the soldiers press together to maximize defense while putting as many blades against the foes as possible. (Bonus: Phalanx for +3AC and half cover vs. Ranged attacks)
6 Attacks vs. Talvus: 14 for 6, 12 for 10, 8 for 7, 24 for 6 plus 8 for crit, 6 for 4, 11 for 6,

The soldiers begin to panic heavily as their numbers are swiftly cut down one by one. Rumblings from within the ruined gatehouse seem to be that there are more inside trying to get into the fight.
From opposite sides of the wall, forces seem to swell in your view. From without, Alvernia's force becomes visible as it forms up in the early pre-dawn. Closer at hand is Bründir's vanguard leading a sizeable force of various mercenary companies. From the keep, soldiers pour out from its walls. It seems that you're performance on the wall

OOC: OH MY GOODNESS I’VE BEEN READING IT WRONG! ITS 2d10 against every target! So that’s... wow. Woops. Been totally misunderstanding that. My apologies. She, and 6 other guards, take 22 (1d4+1+2d10) damage each. NOT 147. Haha. I was thinking that that was absurd! Looks like Darth was right haha
