Pandora meditated for 4 long hours. After that she feel totally recovered. Unfortunately, she is bored now. Because she had nothing better to do she unpacks her alchemist kit and tries to brew some medicine potion. (Rolled a 4)
After long hours of experiments with the alchemist kit the sun finally rise’s. It‘s breakfast time. God I’m starving. She follows Elmira downstairs.
„Thank you very much for the breakfast Elmira! I appreciate your help last night and thank god that you didn’t snore like you promised.“ says Pandora to Elmira with a wink.
„I agree with Carina's suggestion. I have to prepare myself for the trip with gear.“ she says.
The food is good and exactly what the elf needs right now. In her mind, she reviews yesterday's events while she eats and listens to the others. Oh Ashton dashes forward to the door. A little rude as I have not finished eating yet. But we should still not waste so much time here. So Pandora hurries with her breakfast.
Carina looks around. "Are we in agreement then? Old Burrold's to eqiup ourselves so we are not sliding on the ice or sinking in the snow. Then pick up the captured elf to find Croaker's Cave? We promised Elro Aldataur that we would carry out his punishment, cutting off his hand and casting him out, but at no point did we agree to do so before he led us to the cave... In fact I think Ashton insisted that he lead there us first and Elro did not object."
She leaves it unsaid that once they are well away from Palebank Village, they could make different decisions. Perhaps not cut off the hand... Not that she feels much sympathy for the elf, but Carina is genuinely curious to see what the others will want to do. She watches the others' faces.
„Yes Carina, I agree. We should equip first and afterwards visit the elf. So that we can go directly to the cave without any further stop.” Pandora says approving.
“But we should be careful. I don’t want that he looses his hand either. But imagine Elro thinks we are traitors because of that. Then what will he do to us?“ Now she is thoughtful and looks at the others expectantly.
"Lets to to Burrolds supplies first." Ashton says to Xerim. He then looks at Carina, "Yes, he is to lead us to the cave, so after we get supplies, then we go get our prisoner and have him lead us to Croakers Cave. And he gets the choice of losing the hand or execution once we are done with him. I hope he doesn't choose execution, not much he would do for us if he has decided to die,
He hears Carina and replies. "He must pay for his crimes, you heard Elro, we will not abuse his trust in us."
You guys ready? Ashton says from the door. "Lets go."
And with this you all leave the Frozen Elk and walk out into a completely changed weather. The blizzard of last night has piled up the snow high in the streets, but the people of Palebank Village have already cleared most of the paths. Although the storm is over, the clouds hang dense and grey in the air, and it is freezing cold.
Watching, as your exhaled breath moves slowly through the cold air in clouds, you all pull your coats a bit closer to keep some of the warmth in it. As you walk through the freshly made, but small pathways between the cabins you see that a lot of people are already on the run. No matter the climate, a remote place like this does not allow for long sleeping.
Xerim leads you all to the docks and to the rather big one floor cabin that shows the sign of Old Burrold's, who apparently has chosen to take a calmly looking bear head as his sigil.
As you enter the cabin a small bell over the door rings a few times, but this would not have been necessary, since the owner of the store is already behind his counter cleaning some furs as it seems. As you all enter the store he turns around and waves a hand at you and asks you to wait a moment for him to greet you properly. Old Burrold is a rough and tough looking dwarf. His hair being a mane of natural brown and jagged hair and his beard is big and equally jaggy.
"Hello! Hello. Come in. Ahh, ya are already in, good, good." - Burrold says to you and places himself before you.
"Welcome to Old Burrold's Supplies and as ya may have guessed: Me is said Burrold, but I betcha expected me somewhat older, Hah!"
He looks at each of you and then continues:
"I see, I see, some of ya are already well equipped for this bloody weather here. Oooh! What a storm last night, what a storm, eh? Soo! What can we do for ya? Lookin' for some tents to sleep in? Some spears to hunt out there? Or maybe just some cooking utensils or blankets? It's mighty cold up here. Hah!"

'Hello good sir." Ashton says as he approaches the dwarf. "We are headed to Croakers cave in just a bit, and we would need some gear to help us get there." Do you have some snow shoes that would help, and possibly some crampons?"
Carina, though her looks favor her mother's elven side, is a half-dwarf. A "dwelf," if you will. So she looks at "Old" Burrold with genuine fondness.
He reminds me of one of my uncles! I used to love to run my fingers through their beard as a child...
With a true (unfeigned) smile, she drawls at him fondly as if a niece to a favorite uncle (in dwarvish):
"Cold it is here. Surprised the your beard hasn't frozen off yet in the storm! As for us, we need some gear, aye. We are sent by Elro Aldataur on an expedition into the snow after suspected bandits. Surely you can give us a volume discount if we buy multiples! For the good of Palebank Village."
She looks to her companions, hoping for help persuading Old Burrold to give us a price break (summarizing what she said in Common).
Persuasion: with help or advantage25 (19 on die) without it, 8 (2 on die).
Ashton will go with Carina on this. In common he says. "Not sure what my friend here just said, but is there any chance you could help us out here. We are trying to help out Erlo and most of us do not have much money." Could we talk you into taking 1gp for each set?"
Elmira kept quiet as the more charismatic among her spoke to the shopkeeper. She patted her coin purse, feeling out the edges of the few coins she had. Could she afford the shoes? Yes. Would she prefer a discount? Yes.

"Ah! You're the group Elro told me about! Yeees, yes. Elro told me through the Glassblades. He gave you his old equipment, ey?"
He stops and his tone gets a bit more serious as he says:
"Bandits are no joke in a place as remote as Palebank Village. No matter if they only steal one apple. Someone might die from that later on. Aye, we live in a fine settlement here, but that does not mean we are safe or have anything to spare..."
He looks at each one of you and as he looks at Carina his face lightens up once more.
"Ah! Maybe not to spare, but for friends of Elro and a group with an important mission, I will give ya each pair for 3 gold instead of 4. And if ya buy snow shoes and crampons for each of you, I will bring that down by 30% to 55s for each pack of crampons and snow shoes instead of 8 gold."
He looks at your cloth and adds:
"I fear my winter cloth won't be that cheap, tho. See, I cannot hand it out for less than I pay for it and the only way of getting wares up here is through the land way. Mostly from Uthodurn. And although they are good, those are the cheap ones! Some of these better fur cloaks here are crafted in Plabanke itself. Way better quality than those from Uthodurn and you support the community by buying them! But I cannot change the price for those, since I only sell them for the people who craft em. And those are the people determining the prices. So for winter cloth from Uthodurn it would be 28g per pack, including the hat, warm cloth, a coat, scarf and gloves. But as you are friends of the village, I would hand them out to you for 10g less. That makes 18g and for the discount you can buy the crampons and snow shoes and still have 45s left. That is as much as I can do. However, the cloth of Palebank Village will keep you warmer, tho. Plus! Those are made for our workers here, from the fur of the beasts that roam these areas. Meanin' that the fur itself is already perfectly adjusted to this climate. On top of it our craftsmen and women alike are skilled people, so you can move much more freely in it. I can tell ya! But it comes for 50g per pack. Can't change that. However, if you buy one of them, you will get one of these for free..."
And he reaches behind his counter to produce kind of a wooden card that has some decoration carved into it together with the words: "Supporter of Palebank Village".
"Showing these around will open up some doors for ya here, if ya know what I mean, ey? Okay. Think about what you want to buy while I put those away again and I have a lot of other stuff here too. Just in case."
With this he smiles and then leaves you alone for a moment to stash away the cards. Now you can think about, what you want to buy.
"Tough, but fair. I have a bit less than 10 gold on me, but I think some of us will need that clothing to survive this weather." She looks at those who seem cold just having been outside. Elmira turns to the group. "This is a bit random... but maybe we can do an odd job before we buy our things and depart. If we could just earn some gold, maybe we can ensure no one turns into a popsicle."

Carina swallows her pride and asks Elmira or one of the others if she might borrow one gold piece for the snowshoes and crampons.
Not a good look,Carina... she chastises herself mentally, while keeping her face serene. You will need to be more self-sufficient in a land like this. Why did you not buy this gear in advance as you did your warm clothing? More forethought becomes one who is duty and pact-bound as I am...
She thanks Old Burrold and makes a mental note to come back and replace her existing cold weather clothing with the special kind made in Palebank Village, primarily so she can gain the Supporter of Palebank Village card, which might be of true value here (or not, she'd have to find out).
Seeing that Carina has to borrow coins from her group, Burrold speaks up and asks her:
"Well, do you have something to sell to me, maybe? I mean, before you need to borrow from your friends, I am willing to pay you a fair price for anything we could need up here in the north."

I would like to get enough to get us all clothes (those that don't have) and equipment for us all (Including the prisoner).
Seeing that Carina has to borrow coins from her group, Burrold speaks up and asks her:
"Well, do you have something to sell to me, maybe? I mean, before you need to borrow from your friends, I am willing to pay you a fair price for anything we could need up here in the north."
Carina smiles ruefully. "Unfortunately, I need almost everything I have. I do have an ordinary, non-magical dagger that I could sell you, though you may find Ashton's magical dagger (or pipe) more interesting?Alternatively, you could consider it an investment in an adventurer with dwarven blood in her veins and reduce the price further by one gold for me. Then when we return from our task, I will pay you back two gold, by Moradin's hammer."
The dwarf takes a good look at the pipe and the dagger and then looks at Ashton with eyes narrowed.
"Ya know lad ... word travels fast in a small village like this. So I happen to know, that - thanks to y'all! - some bandits have been caught yesterday in Pelc's store. I heard that Pelc herself was in a bad condition and a lot of her stuff was laying around in that store after the fight, sooo ..."
The dwarfs looks to the ground and his voice gets a bit more quiet as he continues.
"It's a shame, that she will be the next, who's funeral the village will attend to."
He pauses for a moment, then looks back at Ashton, pointing to the dagger and the pipe.
"I'll be honest with ya. This kind of stuff, no matter where you got it from or not, it was always Pelc's business to buy and sell this and I have no clue what a dagger like this is worth or not. You say this dagger is magical? Usually people come down from Eiselcross to sell these things to Pelc or in Uthodurn and Moradin knows, where Pelc sold that stuff for a living. Hear Old Burrold. Better keep that dagger if it gives ya any advantage, eh? Ya will need any advantage ya can get up here in the bloody cold."
He leans back and looks at you all in turn. Thinking.
"Well, I cannot make my goods any cheaper, but I tell ya this. Go back to Elro. Tell him, what ya want from me. Sure as the ice will come down on us again he will come up with something to help y'all out. At least, he want's ya to do something for em, right? And up here, that doesn't put 'em in a position where he can deny ya as much as good equipment!"
Burrold smiles and gives Ashton a good clap on the shoulder.
"Ya'll see. Elro will make it work. He always does."
