I don't know if you've ever wondered what the telepathic version of outraged sputtering is like, but now you know. The spectator Erma poked spins in a circle, eyestalks searching wildly for the culprit. An alien voice in your head says, "Who did that? Someone is here! Show yourself!"
The second makes shushing motions with its eyestalks, the two appear to confer for a moment, and then a similar yet different telepathic voice says, "Mysterious outsiders! We ask your assistance. I am Spectator Greelob. This is Spectator Orlob. Each of us claims the right to guard this strange meteorite, but only one of us may do so."
The first adds, "Yes! Yes, we call upon you to mediate our dispute at once!"

Zaius shakes his head in admiration as Erma steps forward into the chamber. “She has some guts about her, that one does. Can anyone sneak the rock away while they are distracted?” he whispers to the others. He thinks it is best to remain hidden for now and snuggles next to the rock, pulling out his crossbow to provide her some cover just in case they don’t like her decision. Stealth to remain hidden: 7.
Rel snaps out of his stupor (leveled and took Moderately Armored feat with Dex bonus. Can he retroactively grant Erma a bardic inspiration die before she steps out?)
"When the matter is settled, you—and your friend—will be allowed to leave," Orlob replies ominously, having noticed Zaius loading his weapon.
Greelob makes calming gestures again. "This cavern is the lair of the orge there. I was nearby and heard a great sound of something heavy being dropped. I arrived to find the ogre had carried in this meteorite, which is clearly a treasure of great value and must be my duty to guard. Orlob and the gazers arrived shortly after, and he has refused to accept my claim."
"I also heard the meteorite dropped! I am Greelob's senior by some years, and my magic is powerful enough to have created the many gazers you see here. Obviously I am the correct choice to protect this object!"
Zaius stands up beside the rock with a sigh, giving up his attempt to hide now that he at least has been spotted. He keeps his crossbow at the low ready, leaning against the rock “Well now, aren’t you a clever one. Just looks like a plain old rock to me. Why do you think it’s special? Just because the big fella over there drug it back here? Plenty of rocks here for you all to guard.”
"Ogres are not nearly as intelligent as we beholderkin," Orlob scoffs, "but they do have an eye for valuable metals and ores." From the tone of his mental voice, you gather that this ocular expression is what passes for the height of wit among beholders.
"Yes, see the blue sheen when the light strikes the blackened surface; this is certainly no ordinary rock," Greelob agrees. "But you are correct, the ogre did find it…"
[Is that your proposed solution, that the orge should be the one to guard it? If so, make me a persuasion check to convince the spectators to accept it.]

Erma says, "Then it might be that you don't have a problem at all. What if some other stone has dropped in the meantime or is about to drop and you miss it without a reason?"
Erma persuasion check: 18 (oh boy I hope this works.. )
“She has the right idea”Zaius sees what Erma is doing and tries to help. “Leave this one with the ogre and go find a rock of your own to guard. First one of you two to find the next one is the winner.” Zaius continues to lean against the boulder.
The spectators consider this for a moment, before bobbing up and down gently. "Yes, that seems fair," Greelob agrees. Without another word, the pair turn and leave down different passages leading deeper into the mountain; the gazers follow along like puppies. The ogre waves a lazy goodbye to all of them, then settles back against the ledge, and before long starts to snore.
Erma steps away super quietly and once she's back with the others, she whispers, "That ... worked! Can someone please go and take it? Maybe we need two people to carry it? I might be able to hold back the ogre should he awake."
(just to maybe not let all of this go to waste...)
Erma mimics clapping, making no sound once the meteorite has been retrieved.
She whispers to whoever is the quietest, "There's probably a whole lot of other stuff he has gathered over the years. See if you can take a look and maybe liberate more of it?"

("in your head" - is that for everyone or just Erma ?)
[Everyone; without knowing exactly where you are they're just "broadcasting"]
Erma gestures towards the others, pointing at her head and moving her mouth, indicating ... something.
Then she shrugs her shoulders and steps forward 10 feet towards the center, keeping herself out of sight of the giant.
Then she bows and says, "How can I assist?"
"You must help us decide which of us is granted this honor!"
"We will provide any information you require, and you will provide a solution."
Erma says, "And what's in it for me?"
He looks at others and shrugs once more, "But please do tell me everything."
Zaius shakes his head in admiration as Erma steps forward into the chamber. “She has some guts about her, that one does. [Sure, if you think you had a chance to whisper something inspirational]
Erma says, "But what does the ogre think about all of this? Was it not him who found it first? Does he not have the best claim of you all?"

With the ogre snoring loudly away, you have no trouble manhandling the meteorite into the bag of holding.
[Well done finding the no-combat path through that encounter. And after I prepped a whole battlemap and everything :/ ;p]
