This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Princess and Icarus both press their attacks, and the enemies are definitely looking the worse for wear now. The first swings once again at his melee opponents, while the second begins to reach for another grenade, before realising his belt is empty, and instead draws his longsword and moves toward the stairs to close with the pair on the sterncastle. [#1 Longsword vs Icarus: 12 for Unable to parse dice roll. slashing damage #1 Longsword vs Da'Kal: 24 for 12 slashing damage #2 can only move (taking the extra damage from booming blade as he does so.]
Da'Kal's blade finally penetrates deeply, drawing a deep slash across the giff's thick neck. In a spray of arterial blood, the big man collapses to the deck!
Quickly switching targets now that the first is dead, Zoide casts a shower of flame-like radiance at the second.
Above you, the ship that dropped the boarders has passed over, swing around toward the other side of the academy tower.
Icarus's blades and Princess's whip do their work, and the second giff joins his companion on the deck. You barely have time to register your victory, however, before you hear an explosion from the other side of the academy, from the sound of it near the cadet quarters. The enemy ship is just moving off from the tower in that direction, presumably having dropped more troops off.
Zoide and Eris race to crew the ship's ballista (the mangonels both still being half-disassembled) as Princess pulls the ship away from its moorings and set off after the enemy ship. Behind and far below, you hear two quiet splashes as the giff bodies hit the water.
Unfortunately, not only has the enemy got a head start on you, but it quickly becomes apparent that the sleek, insectile ship is much faster than your Hammerhead. Some distance ahead, you see another academy ship—you recall another group of cadets talking about being assigned maneuvers over breakfast on the refectory terrace this morning—turning to try to intercept, while behind you in the academy tower another explosion blooms from that very same balcony.
"Ugh... those earthlings or whatever species they are... they're trying to delay us! Look out!"Eris warns princess as she braces for a collision or some other form of impact.
