"Me? Encountered a dragon? Oh, heavens no, but my Uncle Stewben and his band fought many... One at a time, of course, they weren't daft. And my Mother's Cleric's Aunt once fought a young Black with her family." Shae's face brightens as she mentally recalls the stories she was told as a young girl elf.
"The omens I track across the sky at night. Have you ever noticed how the stars change over time? Sometimes you may see one shape but over time the shape moves and disappears, only to be replaced by another? The dragon, it has never moved since I started paying attention; not once. It must be a sign," Shae exclaims confidently as she finishes with her feet. Standing up, she dusts herself off.
"Fascinating," Sara remarks. "My interests were always much more... terrestrial in nature." She's dubious if there is any factual or historical evidence to support such a claim about the stars but accepts that the world is full of many seemingly improbably phenomena, perhaps this is just another. The Tiefling pulls out one of her journals and makes a quick note to find a book on the subject next time she's back in Neverwinter.
Gymlynn ponders, wondering if her story would sound interesting to the group. "My father is a metalworker." She begins."My brothers had been sourcing materials from Undermountain, and my father and I had gone to meet them in Waterdeep. I was at the Yawning Portal when I heard some people talking..."
Lilniana shrugged. "I never knew my parents. Spent my days on the streets of Neverwinter. Never had any occassion with a dragon though, but did see a dragonborn once or twice. Caught wind of this business down here and had a few friends still that suggested I come down. We should move on then."
”I agree. Let’s get moving,” Shae agrees. “You heard of the dragon all the way at the Yawning Portal, Gymlynn?”
The young dwarf shrugged. "Word travels, I guess. A witch flew in on her broomstick and told us she had been in the area and heard about it..." She paused before adding. "I'm not even kidding."
((Just paying homage to my other character and her broom of flying. Hahaha))
(Seems like the mayor didn't think we would be able to get horses around town. I'm fine if people still want to still look but I vote we just go on foot.)
You all begin the trek to the dwarven dig site with the mid-afternoon sun overhead. Is there is anything anyone would like to do on the way? Also, may I have someone roll me a d20, please.
After about five hours you all enter the canyon that leads to the dig site. The canyon’s rocky walls rise to a height of eighty feet. At the end of the canyon, a twenty-foot-high wall of black stone has a broken gate carved into it, with one stone door hanging precariously by a hinge and the other door missing. Beyond this open gate, in the shadow of a great mountain to the east, lies a ruined settlement. All is quiet.

Lilniana stopped for a moment at the bottom of the canyon. "Seems rather quiet. Always suspicious when things are quiet I say." She'll then start walking slowly towards the gate for a better look and keeping an eye out for anything else unusual.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kepheus falls into stride alongside Gymlynn, a little worse for wear as a result of this trek. He shivers as he scans the ruination ahead (investigation 4)

Hi there! I'm a Christian musician based in Canada :)
The area is still quiet and nothing unusual catches your eyes. There are piles of rubble along the edge of the canyon walls, it is hard to tell with the late-afternoon almost evening light, but the ground around the gate and some ways out in the canyon is discolored. It looks like the discoloration is just from foot traffic and possibly carts used in the removal of rubble. As you approach the gate you can see beyond the outlines of stone buildings visible as collapsed walls.

Sara runs up closer towards the collapsed stone walls. "Fascinating! Those must be part of the temple you mentioned earlier Gymlynn! I wonder if any relics remain here? I mean, the way you described it I have to think the purpose and legends of this place would deter many from entering." Sara's solid amber colored eyes gleam in the glowing darkness at the thought of ancient knowledge yet to be rediscovered. She seems absolutely unconcerned with any possible dangers inside at the moment.
"All the more reason to watch your step I would think. But if the dwarves have suddenly disappeared, it seems like something or someone made them disappear. Doesn't seem very dwarf-like to just abandon a dig site for no reason like this."
Sara leans in curious, asking, "what do you mean keep coming back to? Have you encountered a dragon before?"

Is there anywhere else in Phandalin you all would like to go, or where are you all heading to next?
Be excellent to each other, and roll for initiative dudes!
(I think we're heading to the dwarf dig site)
((We want to see if we can get mounts first though I believe.))
Okay. Do you want to ask around to see if you find any potential mount, or do you want to head off to the dig site?

Gymlynn also takes a look around at the relics, but she is more concerned for the individuals that may be out here.
((history check to see if she knows anything about the relics: 3))
