Nemean Stealth: 12

Cautiously stepping forward, Nemean looks through the nearest arrow slit, peering down into the half-ruined tower. The glinting sunlight comes from its reflection off of an old broken treasure chest on the tower's floor; amid the crumbled stone of the destroyed roof are hundreds of glittering coins and gems.

His view of the interior is cut off as a large, yellow, reptilian eye fills the entirety of the arrow slit. "What's this? A thief come to claim my hoard? How positively delightful. Did you think your footfalls upon my roof would go unnoticed to a dragon?" a loud, raspy voice seems to run through Nemean's very soul.

Looking to those still around him Nix says, "We should attack the wings first. If we can keep the dragon on the ground inside the tower it will increase our odds of victory."

OOC: Would the rest of us be close enough to hear the dragon speaking to Nemean? If so, Nix rushes to the nearest entrance.

Nemean begins to recoil back, he quickly scurries back over to the edge of the cottage and frantically signals to his companions and readies a shot with his longbow.

Finna did not understand what Nemean meant by that mad gesticulation but just in case prepared her crossbow as well.

OOC: You weren't close enough to hear it, but definitely close enough to see what happens next.

The reason for Nemean's sudden scramble soon becomes apparent, as a large winged form emerges from the hole in the tower's roof. Hovering menacingly above the tabaxi is a green dragon, ten feet tall with a wingspan that may be even longer, the bony ridges of its face curled back into a sneer.

It was that time again when Finna was abet the most about her inability to fly (yet). Well, what hands can not do, arrows can. Finna simply shoot:

Nemean lines up a shot and holds his breath as he looses as arrow at the terrifying beast above them.

"Oh holy feces, he's in the air now." Nix thinks to himself before attempting move closer to the dragon taking care to search for cover and concealment and he moves.

The dragon's armor-like scales turn away the missiles of Finna and Argos, but not Nemean's arrow, which plunges into its underbelly. Still sneering, not yet bothered, the dragon soars through the air with a single flap of its wings, heading ever so quickly toward the roof of the cottage. There is not much cover ahead, but Nix keeps his back to the wall of the cottage, hoping to avoid the dragon's wrath, while Roland rushes toward the structure himself, climbing the wall to the top.

"That actually tingled," the dragon teases as he grows larger in Nemean's sight, "You can die proud."

The last word is accompanied by a plume of green mist that pours out of the dragon's gullet and over the cottage. Feeling the intense burning of a green dragon's poison, Nemean takes half of 46 poison damage, slumping upon the roof as his vision swims, burning poison countered by Finna's magical resistance. At the edge of the blast, Roland intakes half again the damage, still feeling the pain of the poison through even a light mist.

OOC: Ahhh, I even wrote that down in my notes so I wouldn't forget! I'll fix this tonight, Nemean is still conscious and can take a round 2 action.

Nix looks up to where the dragon is hovering and casts Shatter on the dragon.

OOC: Dragon must make a Con Save DC 14 or take 10 thunder damage, or half as much damage on a successful save.

OOC: I've corrected the previous post to reflect the poison resistance that Nemean and Roland have. Thank you for pointing that out!

Nix's action is in for round 2, along with a bonus action from Finna, so once Nemean has posted his (and Finna if she would like to do anything else) I'll resolve and advance to the next round.

Nemean feels the wave of nausea wash over him as he goes down to one knee and cough up some bile. He staggers over and quickly takes cover. He takes a moment to take a deep breath and then fires another shot at the Dragon.

It seemed her help might have been called for any time and Finna did not dare to waste her magic energy on offence. She shot again:

The mighty dragon glares at Nemean wickedly as he and Finna fire arrows that fail to penetrate its sturdy scales; if it notices the thunderous energy that Nix sends its way, it barely shows it. Roland stays defensive at the edge of the rooftop, waiting for a chance to strike.

"Consider me impressed. You are the first that can claim to stand against the breath of Venomfang and surv -- AGH! You dare!" the dragon's taunt is cut off by a perfectly placed bolt in the side of its face. The creature's head snaps to the side, following its line of sight to Argos, whose defiant stance turns to one of fear and caution as his view is suddenly filled with Venomfang, flying quicker than one could imagine so big a beast to fly. The dragon becomes a vicious frenzy of claws and teeth, sending the dwarven ranger backpedaling.

OOC: Question - what are your rules for drinking a potion? With all the rules contradiction and omission even Sage Advice is unclear on the subject.

OOC: I use the rules from the DMG, unless the potion itself states otherwise:

Potions are consumable magic items. Drinking a potion or administering a potion to another character requires an action. Applying an oil might take longer, as specified in its description. Once used, a potion takes effect immediately, and it is used up.
