Fixated on the dwarf in front of him, Venomfang suddenly pitches to the ground, overcome with heaving laughter. Gouts of poison breath reach the air as the dragon snorts, overcome by Nix's magic. Nemean's arrow soars over its form as it falls. Finna drinks the potent effects of the antitoxin, a protective layer beneath its bitter taste.

Argos grins as he drops his crossbow, and seeing the target prone before him, he draws his shortsword, plunging it into the scales in the dragon's snout. Roland drops from the cottage, taking 4 bludgeoning damage to do so, intent on striking while the dragon is down. His rapier sinks into the dragon's hind quarters, deep and painful. The sound of the dragon's pain is quickly replaced by the unnerving absence of sound; Venomfang is no longer laughing.

Standing to his feet, Venomfang's head lashes out, incredibly quick. His jaws clenched around the top half of Argos, the scene seems to pause in a horrifying moment - and then a vicious crunch salutes the end of the dwarven ranger. His body falls, separated from his bearded head. Spinning around, the dragon lifts a massive leg to swipe at Roland, knocking the rogue to the ground. His next claw rakes across the rogue's form, sending him spiraling unconscious to the ground.

Argos's head rolls from the dragon's mouth to rest near Nix's feet. His fearsome grin returned, Venomfang drips dwarven blood as he shouts to Nix, "Do you find this funny?!?" With a single flap of its wings, the dragon takes to the sky in the bard's direction.

Nemean’s jaw drops in horror as he watches one of his old allies being brutally slaughtered by the beast. “NO!” He cries out in agony. He swiftly moves closer to Finna and Roland as he fires off another shot at Venomfang.

OOC: I don't want to bot Nix during such a crucial moment, so giving some more time for Nix's round 4 action.

Seeing the dragon coming straight at him, fear causes Nix to waver for a moment. "Defense or Offense" he thinks to himself, followed by "I played it safe last time and my friends died."

Mind made up, Nix starts the incantations for Dissonant Whispers (at level 2) and then yells at Venomfang, "No, but I hope this is!"

OOC: Venomfang must make a Wis saving throw, DC 14 or take 9 damage and must immediately use its reaction, if available, to move as far as its speed allows away from me. On a successful save it takes half damage and doesn't have to move.

Nix sees only a split second of hesitation from the dragon as its sound mind barrels through his magic. Venomfang continues to bear down, too quickly toward the bard, and its jowls snap down atop his head, tossing Nix aside like a ragdoll; luckily, his head stays attached, though he does not appear to be long for this world.

Roland glows, awakened by Finna, and has just enough time to down his potion of healing and move a few feet before the dragon is upon them, nearly taking Finna's head off before tearing its claws across a leg. Nemean's arrow deflects off of its scales as it cackles with unbridled glee.

while Finna suddenly changed her shape Swarm of Insects (Spiders) (if you allow) and the crawled on the dragon.

OOC: No worries, that's why I double checked. 

Finna would not be able to take the shape of a swarm, as that is a collection of beasts, and Wild Shape allows a druid to take the form of a beast.

Nemean sees Nix go down and darts forward rapidly, he slides down to one knee as he stops near Nix, and fires off another shot with his bow.

Nemean buries another shot into the flank of the dragon as it bears down upon Finna, who shouts healing toward her fallen companion. The druid takes the shape of a black bear, hurrying to add more protection against the aptly named Venomfang's jaw. Before it can snap shut, Roland pierces through its scales, his rapier digging deep into the dragon's side, and Nix, gasping back to consciousness, quickly mutters the incantations of a spell. His whispers that carry into Venomfang's ears cause a strange reaction in the monster, and it runs across the ground and leaps, flying above the brush away from the bard.

When it looks back, dark green blood is pouring down its side from its many wounds. Venomfang hisses at the four remaining companions, battered but holding strong against his might, "You want this desolate wasteland so bad? Take it! But you'd better keep one eye to the skies..."

With that, two powerful beats of his wings turn him away and carry him into the distance.

OOC: Venomfang is 180 feet away from Finna and Roland, 205 feet away from Nix, and 230 feet away from Nemean, fleeing for the hills.

OOC: WOW! Nice round guys. Wish Nemesis could see that sneak attack land. 

Do we want to/can we give chase here? I thought he had us on the ropes but we turned the tide at least a little bit. Better to fall back and regroup?

OOC: What was our task? To kill the dragon or to chase it away?

OOC: Well I remember that it’s a young dragon now and if we let it get to an adult dragon it will be too powerful to stop. So I think we want to kill it, especially since he threatened to come back...

But we also don’t want to get killed ourselves! Nemean has lost a lot of friends charging into battle over the course of the campaign... but he is in good health and has most of his maneuvers available. How’s the rest of the party looking?
