Esquire takes a few steps around the paladin and lashes out once at her and once at Meiki.
Attack vs Seraphina: 23 Damage: 11
Attack vs Meiki: 20 Damage: 8
Cybele ...
Seraphina ...
Meiki channels the power of nature again, but this time he causes a cloud of mites, fleas, and other parasites to appear momentarily on the hook horror! (DC14 Con save: 8 or take 5 poison and move 5' (2; 1=north; 2=south; 3=no movement (since we are east of him); or 4=west)
It was as if she'd never picked up a bow before! She draws the bow back up, sparing a awestruck glance at Seraphina trying to smite the poor fellow, definitely not envious of being on the opposing end of all that power. What awesome sight! Maybe if she could just get a good shot in she could offer something in this fight. She squared her shoulders against and sucked in a breath as she pulled up the bow and aimed....
The party disengages from the hook horror and retreats to the stargazer's roost, presenting the starchart to Zala Morphus. She is grateful to finally have the chart she needs to continue her research and tells you about the secret door in the wine cellar (area D23). She explains that one of the wine casks is empty and positioned in front of this secret door, which is locked. She also tells you about the password, “farrl’v hrak,” which means “forever changing” in Deep Speech.
Cybele practices saying the phrase a few times under her breath. Once the pronunciation is acceptable to her, she turns back to Zala. "Thank you! Good luck in your research, hopefully we'll see you again before we leave this place." She says, though her mind is already wandering to the wine in the wine cellar, planning to snatch a bottle while she's down there. She'd imagine this place had the fanciest and most elegant of wines!
Seraphina makes note of the phrase but smiles as Cybele makes sure she has it correct. "Well, shall we head on down to the wine cellar now then?" And if no one says otherwise, she starts heading down the spiral stairs to the first floor.
The group heads down the spiral staircase to the first floor, then carefully through the parlor - avoiding the suits of armor in case any more animate and attack! Passing through the eastern door of the parlor, you enter a large kitchen in poor condition. Flies cover foul-smelling messes of several meals stacked on a worktable in the middle of the room. The half-eaten food on the cookery and plates has begun to rot. A fireplace in the middle of the east wall contains a black iron pot hung on a hook. Luckily, there is nothing else in the kitchen, and you can pass through a door to the north.
This room is a well-stocked pantry, and the foodstuffs here haven’t spoiled yet. A sack of potatoes rests against the east wall next to stairs that lead down to the wine cellar. As you descend the wooden stairs, the faint aroma of grapes fills the air. In the 25' x 35' cellar, four large wine casks stand against the west wall, a fine layer of dust covering each of them. The three wine racks to the south are empty. As described, the fourth cask is empty and positioned in front of a secret door in the west wall. Examining the empty cask, you see handprints on it, suggesting it has been moved multiple times. You also feel cold air coming from the wall, indicating the presence of a secret door. The three of you can move the cask aside to access the secret door.
Speaking the pass phrase “farrl’v hrak” deactivates the magical lock and allows you to open the door!
Before the group goes through the secret door, Meiki quietly indicates that they should wat a moment. He pulls out the last two healing fungi and mixes them together with some water and dried leaves, applying some of the salve to Cybele's wounds (healing 2 points) and the rest he uses on Seraphina (healing 3 points).
(Rerolling the first healing - never take a 1! 3 )
Cybele silently curses seeing that there are no bottles of wine left. She also notes the rotting food. Thinking to herself that it almost looked as if someone left abruptly and never returned.
Cybele smiles and thanks Meiki, somehow forgetting the aching of her wounds and grateful that at least someone remembered her injuries even if she couldn't even remember her own! Wouldn't want them to get infected, that would be no fun.
Cybele eases the secret door open and steps through. In the next room, she sees four wooden pews facing a stone statue in the middle of the torchlit chamber. The statue has a roughly bipedal shape and is carved to look like it’s coming undone, like a frayed rope. Its form is covered with mouths and outstretched tongues. Standing before the statue are four purple-cloaked figures, their faces hidden by cowls. They are writing on pieces of paper and muttering to each other, oblivious to your presence. (Map!)
An animated shadow of Cybele appears next to her - it acts as she does but a second behind, like a time-delayed reflection...
(It's okay! I'm in the process of moving over 3,000 miles across the country so I may lose track at times too!)
Cybele spares her shadow a quick bewildered glance, but decides to put her curiosity towards it on the back burner for the moment. She instead turns her attention towards the cloaked figures. She stalks as close as she can to them, trying to decipher what they may be whispering to each other.
The cloaked figures are taking notes on the eldritch surges that occur in this area. They are not paying any attention to Cybele. (or perhaps she's that stealthy? =)
The cloaked figure turns their head slightly, then when they don't recognize you, they react in surprise. "What are you doing down here?!" At this moment the statue flashes a dark purple, and you can almost feel an eldritch surge pulse through the place. The air becomes heavy and malleable, and it's hard to move - almost as if the air in the room is becoming solid. You remember feeling this when you were fighting the animated suit of armor and Meiki cast a spell...
The figure turns back to the statue and says, "Leave and let us continue our studies of the statue of Krokulmar and the eldritch surges it causes..."
Seraphina follows Cybele into the room and realizes too late that her friend is tapping on the shoulder of one of the robed people. Breathing a sigh of relief that they are automatically attacked, she walks up closer to the four, trying to see what they are writing.
Cybele becomes both increasingly fascinated with the statue, and put off by the rudeness of the robed people. To avoid becoming cross, she has to remind herself that what they are doing is probably very important and requires a lot of concentration....
She observes the people for another moment, before making her way to stand amongst them. Side-eyeing them beside her to get the form 'just right' she begins to copy what they are doing. Nodding her head along, and mumbling in agreement to whatever they were saying, throwing in some words here in there that she heard within the conversation.
Maybe if she played along enough she could gather some intel.... Or maybe some new friends....or enemies.

Meiki yells over the combat, "He's too tough!! Disengage and run back to the wizard's room - maybe the butler won't follow us there!"
Love God. Love Others. Any Questions?
Cybele wastes no time in taking Meiki's suggestion. She hurries back to where they came from, ready to pull the door closed behind everyone.

She then continues through the door.
