The poisonous swirls dissipate and are replaced with a warm gold glow as Tana approaches Thatch. Her hand hovers over his wound for a moment as a healing light covers his injuries.
Drusilla rushes to Cainneach's side, looking him over for injury. "Are you well, pup?" She asks, "Did they do you any damage?"
Cainneach's cheeks flush, for it had been some time since Dru had sufficient concern for his well-being to call him by that nickname. His relief that she is well easily overcomes any embarrassment he feels if his new companions overheard her exclamation. "No, no. I am fortunate to remain whole, moreso than Thatch here! We managed to fend off the two that rushed our way. And you ... Twiggy, I trust that you were able to fend off those bizarre apparitions?"Cainneach looks her over carefully as he speaks, still somewhat anxious from the assault.
His attention is diverted from Dru by the exchange between Tana and Thatch and the light emanating from the exotic woman's hands. Cainneach reaches over and subtly touches Dru's arm, nodding at the light. He looks at Dru with a questioning expression.
(Cainneach will also pick up his longbow and collect the two arrows he fired during the battle.)
Drulooks over at Tanahealing Thatch. She whispers to Cainneach, "It's witchery, of a sort. But evil doesn't heal, it infests. No need to worry, as yet."

Cainneach is reassured by Dru's words, then looks down at his hands, palms open toward the ceiling of the tunnel, and imagines what it might be like to wield such an ability. "I've heard tales of this witchery, seen it practiced by the Aos Si, but I wonder if a common man such as myself could ever heal others with a touch ...", he whispers back to Dru, before trailing off and snapping back to attention. "So what's this about a tunnel, Hotspur? What see you down there? I'm not sure if we can continue on our original path."
Thatch picks himself up as Tana’s healing energy flows through him “Many thanks, Tana. I needed that.” He secures his shortswords and picks up his lantern and the lone arrow he fired as he moves down the hallway to rejoin the others, moving up to the hidden passage. “What did you find Hotspur? Where does this one go?”He peers down the hallway.
Looking down the short corridor the companions see in the lantern light an octagonal room about five metres across. The floor is extraordinary—it seems to be made of smooth polished quartz, and below it you can see a curious design of greens and blues overlaid with a scattering of glowing red symbols. Against the south wall is a heavy oak chest.
Valor hesitates at the edge of the room, looking down at the glowing symbols in the floor. "This seems ominous. Given our recent supernatural attack, it would be wise to tread with caution," he says as Hotspur enters the room.

Satisfied that the portcullis shouldn't prove to be a serious impediment to their continued progress, Cainneach returns down the tunnel to the newly discovered room. He enters and is immediately captivated by the flooring and arcane runes, which are unlike anything he's ever seen. Cainneach's curiosity overcomes his sense of caution and he intently examines the floor and the walls, looking for anything hidden amongst the colours and shapes. He also notices the chest and says to whoever's in earshot, "This looks interesting. I lack the skill to prise the lid open if it be locked, though. Do we think it's safe to try?"

“Safe? After warriors sprang from the wall hangings? I doubt it” Thatch replies. Still his curiosity gets the better of him and he creeps forward “What do you make of these symbols, can we enter the room?” he asks Cainneach. If Cainneach finds nothing threatening about the symbols, Thatch approaches the chest “I may have just the trick if it is locked, let’s just take a look first” Thatch pulls out two thin pieces of metal and looks over the chest to see if is locked or if he can identify any potential traps. Perception: 12.

Cainneach stares at the design of fluid greens and blues and the scarlet symbols, he walks around the border examining it from different angles, but it keeps eluding him....there is something familiar.....the sculpted green at the north...like scalloped ridges...like a ridge...that he had walked. It was a chart, a map.
Things were wrong.......not wrong....different...the darkest green must be forest and it covered almost the entire of Ellesland....part of him was saddened when he thought how much was gone now.
He traced rivers, thin lines of blue...the red symbols were towns...or structures...most he did not recognise..perhaps lost to time but others, especially those on the coast he thought perhaps they would correspond to towns he knew of...or fortifications perhaps....

Thatch determines the chest is not locked but there does seem to be signs of some sort of compression switch activating upon opening....if he had to hazard a guess it would be some sort of vapour or gas release....

Hotspur looks in to the previously-hidden corridor with his ability to see really well in the dark. What details can he make out?
Thatch picks himself up as Tana’s healing energy flows through him “Many thanks, Tana. Against the south wall is a heavy oak chest.
Intrigued, the bard leads the way into the eight-sided room. (are there any other exits?) "Anyone recognize these symbols?"
( No other visible exits.)
(Did Cainneach get anything from his Investigation of the portcullis?)

Valor hesitates at the edge of the room, looking down at the glowing symbols in the floor. "This seems ominous. Given our recent supernatural attack, it would be wise to tread with caution," he says as Hotspur enters the room.
Valor can't quite keep himself from sighing, before turning to Bretwald. "Well, Father? You're the expert here. Anything you recognize?"

( He's pretty sure they would lift easily enough with a couple of people assisting in the lifting.)
" Hmmm?", says Bretwald as he comes forward.
" Oh! How interesting....sorcery again...obviously....but a delightful use of such dubious skills."
" The symbols? ", he leans over. " Uh....."
He examined the patchwork of colours and the symbols, " I feel like I should recognise this...somehow...but I do not. Sorry."
Dru looks at the priest skeptically. "Well then, father, as you brought us here, perhaps you should lead the way?"

" Should we open the chest then before we head back to the main corridor?", Bretwald said slightly unsurely.

"I would leave that chest alone. It seems foreboding. Especially with the runes" says Morseth.

Hotspur will attempt an encouraging limerick:
There once was a boy from the stable,
With horses, no one was more able,
He scoffed at all danger,
to fear, he's a stranger,
but wine puts him under the table.
