Thatch ponders the Priest’s words “Hmm, perhaps we can use a substitute.” He pulls an iron pot out of his pack and, looking at the two pools, he carefully dips the pot into the gray liquid. He is careful not to touch either liquid as he transfers the pot to the next pool and pours the gray liquid into the purple. He looks up at the barrier hopefully.

The grey liquid is scooped up into the pot, it appears to be a somewhat chalky suspension. Pouring the grey liquid into the purple there is a slight hissing sound and the grey liquid seems to fully dissolve into the purple almost immediately.
Cainneach takes in all of the conversation and the various attempts. He is slightly disappointed to see that his theory did not prove to be correct, then takes a deep breath and lets out a sigh as he ponders other options. Cainneach seems hesitant as he offers the following, "Okay Bretwald, you said something about being of similar colours. Perhaps if we poured some of the purple liquid on ourselves, the barrier would recognize us? Although we haven't confirmed that the barrier will, in fact, prevent our passage. Is there a safe way to test? An inanimate object, such as Twiggy's arrow, might be able to pass safely, but it might block a living being."Cainneach scratches his head, seemingly drawn along by the accelerating ramble of his spoken thoughts. "You know, I suppose I can just test it, one hand with the purple liquid, one without ..." He then reaches out to touch the purple barrier, with just the very tip of his plain finger.

Cainneach hears Dru's shout and immediately stops himself before poking the purple field. He seems to have been shaken from a daze and turns around to look at Dru, mouthing the words, "I'm sorry!"
Valor seems at a loss. Puzzles and riddles are not for him. Give me the simplicity of the battle field, he thinks to himself. He used to enjoy the blacksmith's puzzles but that was about the extent of his riddle solving skills.
He was lost in such thoughts until he heard, "Cainneach! No!"
He looked up in alarm at the woodsman approaching the barrier.
Bretwald looked on alarmed but also more than a little intrigued, " Let me try. I'm less essential to the group...and I don't get much use out of my left hand anyway."
Bretwald moved up putting his right hand on Cainneachs shoulder as he did so, " Do pull me back if I catch on fire or something."
Bretwald placed his left hand into the barrier, " It is slightly warm and vibrates a little....should I continue through do you think?"
Dru looks Cainneachover, making sure that he is still all there. Glancing over at Bretwald, she says to Cainneach, "Don't go risking your life and limbs, pup. We don't know what these glamours will do." Turning again to the cleric, she asks, "Do you know aught of healing, holy man? If so, losing you would harm this expedition greatly. If you are determined to continue in this mad quest, I'll do my best to pull you back if necessary. But it would be better to test the barrier further before proceeding, I think."

" Healing? I know a good tincture for scabby mouth in goats. But if I'm no herbalist or chirugeon if thats what your asking."
Tana watches carefully as the group mills around, debating between their courses of action. She starts in alarm at the yell, internally giving a slight pause at the unfamiliar name that comes out of Twiggy's mouth. She quietly notes that obviously Dob is the one to react to the name, but chooses to remain silent to the fact, trying to catch the eye of any of her other group members and see if they noticed the slip-up.
"No other creatures around here I suppose? I would be of use to try and convince a smaller creature to pass through first."
While walking to stand by Dru's side (and blissfully unaware of her slip of his real name), Cainneach grimaces reflexively at Tana's suggestion of sending through a creature. He then ponders what is so odious about that idea, when he was willing to put himself through the barrier. Or let Bretwald go through it, for that matter. Cainneach unconsciously mutters aloud, "I suppose it's a question of free will, isn't it. The poor thing wouldn't have a choice." He then sighs again, turns to Dru, and speaks quietly, "The old man says he's of little use, perhaps we let him try his luck? Maybe coat his hand with the liquid at least? Or is it to be imbibed perhaps?"
Drulooks at the two liquids. "I don't like the look of either of these, but particularly not the purple. Liquid shouldn't hiss. Perhaps take a bit of the purple liquid in a pot and toss it toward the barrier."
Disappointed that mixing the liquids had no obvious impact, Thatch watches as the others test the barrier. He looks shocked at Cainneach’s suggestion and glances at the hissing liquid doubtfully “I don’t think even Hotspur would drink this stuff.” He perks up at Dru’s words and takes the iron pot and dips it carefully back in the purple liquid then moves and tosses it against the barrier. “Stand back, everyone”

Thatch scoops up the liquid carefully in the pot and moving over tosses it through the barrier where it apparently lands with a splatter on the stones on the other side....someone with less keen senses might not have caught it but Thatchs eyes move between the liquid within the fountain and the liquid within the pot....there is a subtle difference in the shade of the liquid and it smells less....sharp...once removed from the fountain.
Cainneach chuckles at Hotspur's exclamation and chimes in jokingly with, "That helps to explain the quality of your music!" He also observed (DM's discretion) something funny about Thatch's demeanour while transferring the liquid out of the fountain. "Thatch, did you think of something? You had a look there for a moment."

Thatch looks up at Cainneach, slightly bewildered. “I don’t know…the liquid seemed different somehow as I carried it away from the fountain. Less fizzy and the color and smell were just little different. Not sure what to make of it.” He looks over at Hotspur “Maybe we should drink it after all. Maybe that was what the cup was for…”He seems a little unsure of his guess.
"I'm getting to that point in my thinking as well, Thatch. Perhaps we should try just dumping some on Bretwald's hand first, to see if it has any ill effect. If that does nothing to help breach the barrier, then trying a drink might be the next step. What say you, old man?"
Bretwald shrugged, " Possibly......"
" Though I wonder if that chalice which we destroyed might have proven more useful here.."
Thatch ponders the Priest’s words “Hmm, perhaps we can use a substitute.” He pulls an iron pot out of his pack and, looking at the two pools, he carefully dips the pot into the gray liquid.
