Kathra staggers down the stairs, looking significantly worse for the wear. For a moment, all you can get out of her is "Stupid lousy godsdamned crystal nonsense."
She eventually catches her breath and seems to calm down a bit. "Mirabel," she says, quietly and calmly, "would you kindly find out what in the nine hells tried to cook me just now? I don't think whatever's up there is working properly."
((And only now do I remember that Kathra gets advantage on dex saving throws, so maybe I could have avoided being cooked. Oh well, this was more interesting))
Kathra shakes her head again to clear it as she hears Peren's question. "I was among the stars..." she says quietly, almost not believing the words as they leave her mouth. She looks down at the tattoos on her skin. "It would seem I brought some of them back with me. That device," she waves up the stairs, "I think it can transport you places. I've never seen the like. I think I was sent somewhere?" She shifts a bit and groans. "I don't think the trip agreed with me."
If that is the case, I wonder if the Walrus people downstairs got sent somewhere else and have not returned yet? This is very unusual, I do not like extraterrestrial shit
Gavin casts cure wounds on Kathra. He kneels and murmurs a short prayer “Tempus gives you his blessing”
((7 hp recovered))
”I really think we should go back to the forge to get some rest. I do not believe the dragon can enter that small of a space. I would also like to pray with this weapon,” as he taps the sword slung over his back. “to see if Tempus can assist in learning its powers. If anyone wants to do anything beforehand please do so now as I am intent on heading back there.”
“Peren, maybe an elf might have better luck getting those items upstairs. You seem a little more light on your feet than our smoky friend here.” as he lets out a chuckle while motioning towards Kathra.
((I offer guidance on his next check if he goes))
”I also have something I want to try on one of those walrus-men before resting. I may be able to bring one back to consciousness”
Quickly and silently, you pick your way up the stairs and into the Observation Room above. You see the glowing crystal pillar in the center of the room and hear the hum of its energies. Looking around you see a desk that has seen better days, scorch marks marring its various surfaces, but most of the contents on top seem generally undisturbed. You find two small ink-pots next to some charred papers and a set of goggles with strange yellow lenses. Gathering up your bounty, you tip-toe your way out of the room just as the pitch of the humming crystal begins to drop dangerously, though nothing seems to come out of the pillar as you scooch on out of the room.
Kathra is still a little caught up in whatever experience it is she had, but nods in thanks to Gavin and seems to be feeling a bit less cooked. At Gavin's suggestion of waking up one of the walrus men, she raises a hand. "Might want to wait until we know a bit more on that, I think. I don't know if they're friends or foes, but I'm not wild about finding out until we have a handle on whatever beast roams these halls."
The goggles are of pretty basic construction, though you are not familiar with all of the materials. The lenses appear to be made of a well polished yellow crystal or hardened glass.

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
Maybe with these goggles I would be able to see the invisible creature, Peren says out loud Gavin can you use detect magic on the goggles before I put them on, I don’t want to get cursed or something worse
Fascinating and likely magical! These silvered constellation tattoos are all over Kathra. They seem to give off a very dim glow and are shaped like various animals. Many of them look like something you'd see in a magical theory book on the Astral Sea.
I cast the ritual version again (10 min cast time) of detect magic and share results w group on goggles. I hand an ink well to Peren and Thont. I think Kathra and I are better up close, and you two have better hand eye coordination than an old man, and dwarves are known for a lot of things, but I do not think that is one of them.” as he winks at Kathra
Responding to Kathra concern of waking a walrus, “Which is why I only plan on trying to wake one of them. It seems as if this is their home, and that creature is an un-invited guest. They may be able to fill in some blanks. And if it turns hostile, I think the 5 of us can handle one with little effort. It may not even work. But before I try I would be open to a group vote. Everyone here has equal say in matters like this, from my perspective anyways.”
“Mirabel, does upstairs (just looking from safety of stairwell) or either of the murals look different w the goggles on? Or the discs for that matter?”
The goggles look cool, but are otherwise non-magical. Kathra, on the other hand is radiating a very strong aura of Conjuration magic from the multiple constellation tattoos that cover her body.

Sure Peren would be willing to try, with risk comes reward
Peren will sneak up the stairs and try to investigate the table, and pick up the ink
Stealth = 18
Investigation = 8
Dex = 22

((Once everyone is done in here I’m heading back to walruses for a quick pit stop))
As I climb down the steps, I hand the ink over to Gavin and then investigate the goggles
investigation = 18
I also think we should head back to the forge room to rest and try to come up with a plan

Mirabel has not stopped staring at the tattoos on Kathra. "These are fascinating!"

Peren thinks waking one of the walrus men is a good idea, he is curious to hear their side of the story,
But then again, didn’t the bodies on the trail outside have tusk wounds? I think we should all ready attacks while one of us tries to wake one of them
