Kathra wanders over and looks over the body as well. "He had no record of his journey? No report he intended to give before the temple collapse cut his plans short?" She frowns deeply and mutters something to herself that sounds like "Sloppy" before addressing the witch again. "And his...brother, you've had no word of him either?" She peers closer at the crystal-rimmed wounds. Had it been blooming within him the whole time, or had it grown postmortem?
Nana Ironeye addresses Kathra's questions. "We've not heard hide nor tail of Bobbin since both brothers left. Whatever Tommin might have brought back on his own must've been lost in the explosion."
For Kathra:
Yeah, crystal growing out of dead flesh sure is weird, am I right?

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
Looking closer at the strange crystal, you instantly recognize what it is. The substance is not actually rock in the traditional sense, but a physical manifestation of the Astral Sea itself. Looking deeper into the shard, you see stars and galaxies as if you were looking through glass into the night sky itself. Even stranger, the stars seem fixed in their locations, so that as you move the crystal, the image moves with it to reveal new astral bodies.
Mirabel's eyes widen as he looks through the crystal. "We appear to be dealing with an extra planar entity."
He sits down on the floor, cradling the crystal. "Now how did you end up here in the middle of nowhere....?"
Gavin feeling useless here starts walking towards the door. “I’m going to let you all finish up here, I’m going to take a walk over to the sheriff’s office if anyone would like to join me. Marabel you seem to be way more useful here than me fumbling around with that I know nothing of. My preference is that we get provisions and a good nights rest and head up the mountain tomorrow morning”
He stops for a second at the doorway and turns. “Actually Nana, you said something about providing a fortune telling. Would you mind giving me a read? I can come back later if you like.” Gavin has met many people that claim to be able to do such a thing. Some were con artists, but a few actually foretold something useful. Right now he’s feeling like any help they can get is beneficial.
((if she doesn’t do so now, I will head to the Sheriff’s with whoever wants to go along and come back later))
If it were possible to frown even more deeply than before, Kathra somehow manages it at the sound of Mirabel saying "extra planar entity." She takes a few steps back from the body, as if distance would make any difference, and with a forced casualness turns to Gavin. "Yes, perhaps we can be more useful elsewhere. Leave the arcane to the... arcanists." At Gavin's mention of fortune telling, she resists the urge to roll her eyes.
At Gavin's question, Nana Ironeye gives a slight cackle. "Fates are fickle things good sir, and now as as good a time as any." She gets out of her chair and wanders over to a table cluttered in herbs and other materials. Taking a small box from the table, she walks over to the center of the room and sits down near Mirabel, her back to the fire, and beckons you to sit before her. As you do, she reaches into the box and lays out various baubles and rocks in a line between you. Then she pulls a long thin smoking pipe from the box and lights one end, drawing in the smoke and puffing it out along the line. As the smoke wafts among the rocks and things, she begins to chant softly to herself. Coming out of her brief trance, she frowns slightly. "You and your friends are in for some danger, lad...but maybe also a great reward. You will cross paths with a creature of the night, and see the wonders of the stars." Slowly, she gets to her feet and goes back over to the table full of bottles and herbs. Grabbing two small flasks, she returns and hands them to you. "You'll be needing these I wager."
For Gavin:
The two potion bottles have a reddish liquid inside that your recognize very well. You now have two Potion of Healing.
“Thank you Nana, these will be very helpful” as Gaving gives a slight bow. “You speak of creatures of the night, would you know of any weaknesses or defenses that would help us defeat them?”
((I also give one of the potions to Kathra since she and I will most likely be taking the brunt of front line damage and/or likely to administer to others <hopefully>))
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kathra can't suppress a snort at the theatrics of the fortune reading, but tries to pass it off as a sneeze. She does, however, perk up significantly at the mention of 'creatures of the night' and nod her thanks for the potion. Casting her mind back through her own lived experience on the mountains, she flips through a mental catalog of monsters, trying to think of the sorts of creatures they're likely to run up against during the nighttime hours.
At Gavin's question, Nana Ironeye turns thoughtful. "The fates are a vague lot, and ever keen on keeping the future mercurial. I've prepared you for what lies ahead the best I can."
For Kathra:
Thinking back, in the most normal sense, you have your various nocturnal predators like bats or wolves. As far as monsters go, it becomes harder to say. You know vampires tend to be referred to in such a way, as do various lycanthropes of which the moon holds sway. Then again, sometimes fortunes are frustratingly literal as well, meaning you could be up against a creature quite literally made of night-stuffs, whatever that might be. This may be why you dislike mysticism so much.

Gavin thanks Nana again and heads over to the sheriff’s with Thont and Perrin. “Kathra do you want to come or would you prefer to stay here w Maribel? You could also look into getting supplies from Helpington’s since you know this mountain area better than all of us, I trust you know what supplies or gear we would need.”
((not sure if people want to split up at this point to get more accomplished or stick together))
((I'm trying to think if there is anything else I can do with this crystal))
Mirabel turns to Nana and takes the disc out of his pack. "You've been very helpful, would you happen to have any insight into what this may be? I can't figure it out for the life of me."

Peren offers to go with Gavin, seeing he does not know much about arcana

Thont, ready to go with Gavin to the Sherrif's, asks:
"Did your late halfling friend get a reading anytime recently? Mind sharing what was found, if so?"
Looking to Thont again, Nana Ironeye replies. "No, the Farfoot boys were never the superstitious sort. More men of the earth of you know what I mean."
Peren ask Gavin “do you want to share the reading with us, where there any dangers in your future, or ours”
((Way better than any fortune cookie I’ve had))

I walk with Gavin and Perrin, noting the age of the buildings as we go - and the wear of the roads... Keeping silent.
As Peren walks with Gavin and Thont he keeps an eye out for anything strange along the way
perception = 5
((wow I rolled another 1))
Kathra nods at Gavin's suggestion. "I can do that, yes."
She splits off from the group and heads for Helpington's General Shop to pick up some supplies.
