((Mak'ral did make the check - he's very adept at maintaining his concentration, almost as if he gets two shots at it each time - the italicized botanist was just me suggesting that maybe he isn't really a botanist))
Ethel knocks the zombie back a few steps, it's mostly lifeless head hanging even more limply to the side.
Ula is already on the move before Ethel finishes speaking, pushing her way up the stairs until she gets to Jan. She places a hand on Jan's shoulder and closes her eyes. A ripple of energy races down her arm, moving like a wave about to crash against the shore. Once it breaks onto Jan's shoulder, she shudders and her eyes blink open again (healed for 19HP).
Soren looks down the stairs in the direction of Ethel's voice.
"Burning down this tower would be a start," Soren says. "Like to see him escape that."
Outside, K' notices trees shaking as if something large is approaching the clearing the tower sits in the middle of.
K', Avaria, and Marrin are up. Mak'ral is out of sight, but can't be too far away. The room on the second floor is maybe 10' around the corner up the stairs and across a landing from Jan and Ula and a few feet more from Avaria and Soren. Marrin is about another 15' down the stairs from Avaria and Soren. And Ethel is in the room below (she can still see Marrin but would have to head up the stairs to see the others).
For now, there's still only the one zombie on the stairs and the others appear to be waiting.
Jan groans and grips Ula's shoulder in thanks, reassuring K that she's okay. If she is aware of the crashing sound, she'll send them winging up towards the forest to report.

Avaria lays on the ground for a moment, coughing and hacking up as she feels some of the festering wounds heal up a bit after Soren's help. She looks at him and is embarrassed on how she had some doubt as to who he was just because a stranger called him out.
No time for that, she admonishes herself and stands up. Wanting to give chase, but hearing Ethel's words, she stands down. She does however see the zombie lurking around and decides it is time to end it's 'life'.
[Continuing the OOC discussion on vandalism/malicious destruction of property, could Ethel's burning hands reach and ignite those timbers to aid in the weakening of the floor?]

(Would let Eldritch Blast contribute if you time it right (Maybe DC 8 to time your spells). Burning Hands could reach but I would say these beams are combustible and not flammable - it takes some work to get heavy timber burning.
Avaria needs to go outside and part way down the exterior stairs to reach the zombie - she can go do that as you’re in a bit of a quasi initiative state at the moment so not being a stickler on movement, but wanted to check and make sure that was what she wanted to do first)
[OK. Not wasting the last spell slot then. I assume Ethel is smart enough to recognize fire won't catch on those beams. And Chill Touch doesn't allow for targets other than creatures.]
"Marrin, make the point you target as close to the ceiling as possible. If you get lucky and happen to select the same bit of floor he is standing on... Let him feel the thunder."

Marrin focuses on the spot Jan is looking and blows an awful note on her flute and targets a point in the room above, just above the floor, where she last heard Mak's footsteps.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Avaria, ignoring the calculations and planning in the tower, spots an enemy and rushes outside, down a few steps and hacks away, again and again at the zombie on the stairs. She slashes an arm off and then almost takes off its head. As much as zombies like to keep coming back, this one is done. It collapses at Avaria's feet. As it does, a noxious green vapour pours out from its vacant eyes and ears, swirling around Avaria.
(DC13 Con Save - 2 poison damage on a failed save, half as much on success)
Once it collapses, Avaria now sees 8 zombies at the base of the stairs, staring up at her but not moving. Two rotting trees stand still behind the zombies. Behind them she can also see something large is coming through the trees. Branches and leaves rustle and the ground shakes ever so slightly.
Back inside the tower, Jan and Marrin synch their magic and let energy fly at the ceiling.
Soren and Ula quickly move to the sides of the room.
For a moment nothing happens, then one of the beams creaks and the planks around it break apart and collapse down to the floor below. The ceiling above now has a jagged hole roughly 5'x5' now in the middle of it.
Unfortunately, Mak'ral didn't happen to be standing above that spot, but everyone can now see his face looking down at them all.
"Are you insane?" Mak'ral calls down. "You could bring the whole tower down on your heads. If you hadn't noticed, it's not in the best shape."
You can just make out that he still holds the book in his hand, and in the other he now holds a jet black helmet. Where a visor or eye slits should be is just black metal.
Avaria, having forgotten the part where the cloud of green surrounds and poisons (or shall I say the player forgot?), gets a full breath of it and coughs and sputters for a bit before noticing the situation in front of her.
Barely hanging on, she reaches out to the tower and puts her palm against it as she uses it for support and looks out. She hears the crash of the ceiling inside, but no screams so she figures her friends are alright. At least for now. She wonders about these creatures as they stand there, watching her. If any of them decided to attack she'd be done for, but where could she run? The one her friends were fighting... if they got near him, she'd rush back inside, but for now? She watches the forest and awaits what is coming to show it's face.

Marrin looks up the stairs after Mak.
"Well, I can keep yelling mean things after the fork head. Not sure that qualifies as clever."
She'll then give the roof of the room and floor that Mak is using.
"Or I can try to bring down the house."
