You find yourself in the midst of a heated battle, three factions all converging on a single point. All around you is chaos, screaming and shouting, magic, and death permeate the air. Your ranged skills keep you out of the worst of it, but you haven't been in anything even close to this since..... what happened that led you to seek retribution. You're firing off arrows in every direction as fast as you can.
It's been years since the event, and you've grown stronger since, though you still have far to go. By luck, you haven't been singled out by any specific opponents in this clash and only suffered scratches thus far. You came here because a strange woman named Madam Eva told you that you would find what you sought by joining this group who is now dying and fighting around you, an for one reason or another, you chose to believe her.
She told you that you would find your destiny in time if you traveled with them. Now you need only survive.
For Jack:
Here you find yourself surrounded by allies, and foes alike, though your foes are far more numerous, and the chaos of a three-way battle rages around you. You wonder to yourself how you got here, only to remember you were doing it to gain some favor or another. Though this was likely more than you bargained for.. but as a barbarian, you found the thrill of combat exhilarating as you cut down foes left and right with a strange mixture of ease, and fury. Whether or not you enjoyed the death you were causing was another thing.
You need only succeed here to please the one you'd pledged this for, to attain what you sought.
For Leras:
Poor Leras couldn't catch a break. He'd joined this adventuring group, hoping to find ways to grow stronger, improve himself, or, at the very least find some way to achieve those goals, but as luck would have it, the adventuring party he'd joined had a reputation, and it wasn't a good one. Two groups had converged on the location of the party he was with, and his group was the smallest of them all... Oh if only he'd listened to his gut! But for now, all he could do was fight to survive since neither side would listen to reason or pleas, and it seemed the two groups also had grudged with each-other...
Whether simply both wanting exclusive claim on the bounty, or something else.. well now wasn't the time to think about that....
For all:
Chaos and bloodshed rang throughout the sudden battlefield, taking place just off the road between Daggerford and Red Larch, in the Dessarim Valley. The sky was dark, and heavy making for a morbid mockery of the death ensuing. Leras party seemed to be quite strong, as even though two forces had converged on the location intent on killing them, they also seemed interested in fighting each other, leading to a three way battle on the trade road. Every few moments, another body hit the floor. Chiro, near the edge of combat was picking out any targets he could find, and with his amazingly perceptive eyes and ears, he was able to take out most threats that seemed to single him out.
Carving his way through the fight, Jack found his way to the edge, where Leras, Chiro, and himself suddenly were in the shifting tide of the fight, surrounded by corpses, or soon to be cadavers.
In the distance, you all could swear that a heavy fog that had been surrounding the area was creeping closer, as if you all were in the eye of a tornado.. metaphorically, but it was hard to tell, since you couldn't focus on that at the moment. Each of you from different factions, now in a death triangle, feel separate from the fight despite it all raging on around you merely feet away.
OOC: For this, the order of combat will be - Chiro, Jack, then Leras. Combat has begun. There will be no NPC combat in this case, but a battle is raging around you.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Chiro senses that the spellcaster may be his biggest threat at this point, and with combat closing in he casts "Hunter's Mark" (Bonus Action), then targets Leras with his bow (Action).

If Jack was one to stop and think even half the time once the blood got pumping, some of the blood on his once fanciful (but now rather tattered) clothing might've been more of his own than anyone elses! For hesitation was the death of many who found their way to any battlefield, after all! Not that deep contemplation was all that often on the menu for the tall, short-haired, and red-skinned eladrin as he waded through the field. But that said...
"My, my, my, my! Now things are starting to get interesting!" Jack declared, for once actually sparing a moment to take in his new would be opponets. But then just as quickly, he started to laugh and abruptly rushed the archer with twin-bladed scimitar in hand trying to hobble his arms in a few quick strikes.

I will protect those I hate. Even ... even if the one I hate most ... is ... myself.
Chiro's fingers are tense and jittery, far fro mthe calm figure he was moments before as the adrenaline in him changes from one form to another, causing his arrow to miss, though it inevitably struck someone farther down the path, cutting them down or otherwise distracting them enough for someone else to finish the job. The medium scale fight going on around the trio shifts away from them, by chance. Unfortunately for Chiro... whether by dint of the random chaos of battle or these two specifically seeking him in particular, the pair (Jack and Leras) both choose to ignore each-other for the moment.
Jack coming in with tempered fury and Chiro finding himself on the receiving end of a well placed slash across his left tarm, leaving a bloody gash across it -the one downside of wearing no armor- that began to drool down his torso, to his hip, and thigh.
Leras, whether still stunned from the miss of the arrow in a similar fashion to modern weaponry creating a disorienting effect, his eldritch blast screaming past Chiro's head by a moderate margin.
More bodies fall around the trio, and the battle is thinning. Half of Leras' party lay dead, the other half fighting valiantly against the two groups, whos numbers had also dwindled to several handfuls on both sides, with the trio now nearly twenty feet away from the melee. The fog itself seemed to be closer, coming in from all sides, the only one who would notice this would be Chiro, the other two far too distracted to notice it any more than the other gloom that had been permeating the battlefield.
OOC: One more round of combat. Chiro has disadvantage due to someone being within 5 feet.
Chiro drops his bow and turns to so that he's facing both his attackers. The Barbarian's scimitar cut deep, but despite that he's managed to maintain concentration on his Hunter's Mark (18 Con Save rolled on character sheet) not that it matters for what he's about to do...
Madam Eva said I find what I sought here, he thinks, but I may only find my death - and at the hands of my own kind. He's not sure if that's better, or worse.
"I'm sorry brothers" he says, "maybe in a different life..." he shrugs, and casts Burning Hands (Hopefully catching them both in the cone)

In this case, I will assume all actions are within range of the other for the sake of flare. This intro is less focused, and less concise than I normally run things!
The flames of the spell will engulf both Jack and Leras, though Leras will only take quarter damage (Nat 20 save) which would be 3 (due to rounding down) Jack will either take 14, 7, or 3 depending on whether he passes the save or not.

Acting almost on instinct, Jack whirls his weapon about while shifting off to the side to avoid the worst of the inferno. But you'll need more than THAT to bring me down!" His assurance are swiftly accompanied by him again sweeping his blades about in a dazzling display as he feints to the right, only to sweep low for the shins still playing at fighting the elf.

Poor Chiro's luck seems to have run out, but will it remain so? Just as Leras deals the finishing blow the fog that had been creeping in seems to wash over the remaining combatants, and the trio in similar fashion to the dust-blast of a nuclear explosion, though with far less devastating consequences. Darkness surrounds everyone, and soon, confused screams came from the shadow, the fog felt simultaneously intangible, and solid as it caressed along the flesh.
The darkness was impenetrable, and all consuming. And it felt simultaneously like an eternity, and and instant... Leras, and Jack finding themselves dropped unceremoniously to the ground from about five feet up, while causing no damage, it likely caught the pair off guard. (DC 5 dexterity check to not stumble and fall prone) meanwhile Chiro, unconscious simply falls to the ground in a heap (no damage, no failed save)
The trio find themselves on a small bank in the center of two streams of a river ..This river flows as clear as a blue winter sky through the valley. The river itself is roughly 50 feet wide, and seems to be no deeper than 10 feet. The sun has disappeared, and the night has replaced it. The color of the world seems muted, drab, oppressed. The wind blows heavily, the trees can be heard screaming as a dirge, opining their fate, and sending chills down your spine.
All of you (Except Chiro, for now) feel eyes upon you, though no matter where you look, you cannot determine their source, but you cannot shake the feeling that you're being watched. After a moment, you would realize those who had been fighting nearby were nowhere near you. The river extends to the east vanishing from sight in the seemingly endless trees, that you now realize have you surrounded in what appears to be a wide patch of clearing. In the distance, what seems to be buildings can just barely be seen as shadows, and what appears to be a wagon moving along a road heading towards it in no particular rush, lanterns being all that gave it away.
And just as all of this is registering, the slow clank of rusted metal can be heard, as bodies begin climbing out of the river, followed soon after by their festering groans as they clamber to their feet. The pair of Zombies moving towards Leras and Jack.
