"Hey wait," Nygil says as everyone starts leaving. "I guess I should have been more clear. ...I'm pretty sure that drinking this stuff gives you dark vision. I mean... I already had dark vision but it seems to have enhanced it. It might be useful for those of you who don't have dark vision." He shrugs, "Up to you though. I'm ready to go otherwise."
He grins at Mordred, "Its not luck. I know what I'm doing when it comes to stuff like this. If it gave any indication of being poison when I tested it, I wouldn't have swallowed any. I also didn't swallow very much...sure if it had been magical I might not have been able to hold up to it but still... Besides, what other source of liquid is out here? Where are those giant beetles getting their water from?"

Rethan grins after drinking the water as he can suddenly see much better in the dark than he could before. He tucks the 'stars' that came up with the water into a pouch.
Seeing everyone’s reactions to finding out what kind of ‘creature’ she really is, an amused smirk appears on her face. But the straw that breaks the camel’s back, so to speak, is Zalten’s stumble. Oh, this’ll never get old. Never. Laughter bubbles up her throat, the kind that starts from the belly and rises up to the eyes. She hadn’t laughed like this since she got here! “You guys are looking at me like I grew a second head!” She snickers between breaths. “Well, technically I could, but that’s definitely not the case! Have you never met a changeling before?” Her question is partially answered when Tamara starts talking. “Stories? I’d love to hear what stories you’ve heard about my kind, when we have the time. And I’m always looking for a job. What do you do for work, or for whatever you have in mind, that you’d like someone with my abilities?”
“I guess you’re right, Rethan, but I’m still the same old Jack under here.” She taps her temple, as if that were to somehow prove the validity of the statement. “I just like to change skins once in a while. Traveling never feels quite right in a carpenter's clothes.”
Jack then turns her attention to Nygil, with an electric air of anxiety and anticipation. She’s nervous about the effects of drinking the water, but she had a feeling that he was gonna do it anyway, no matter what anyone said. Though she had just been laughing minutes before, she joins Mordred in another small laughing fit as it all turned out to be just fine after all. She runs up to the water with Rethan, and cupping her hands, tries to fish out as many little stars as possible. Once she’s pocketed a few, she dips her hands back in the liquid and brings some to her lips, taking a long gulp from the lukewarm ‘water.’ She feels like she should make a wish, as if she were drinking the stuff shooting stars are made of. She sticks her hands in another pocket and fishes out two small, palm-sized blocks of wood connected with a hinge. She flips it open and holds it between her hands, whispering something into it. She then closes the item and stashes it away again before following the rest of the group across the bridge.
She’ll stay near the middle of the group, trying to keep a keen eye out for anything dangerous or interesting. And, specifically, if there are any live trees.

Mordred had listened to "Jack." As she spoke with a true and genuine form of laughter, Mordred had heard of Changelings Fey creatures weren't they? Or was he wrong? He couldn't remember entirely but seeing one in person through his guard off. He had seen her.. Him? Them? Drink from the liquid as well. Mordred couldn't help but smirk at Jack's amused attitude by the others reaction. Though Mordred found it strange and he wasn't sure how it matched with his teachings or how such beings had thought but.. He had oddly found the muse Jack had taken on to be rather attractive. Though he wouldn't leer nor would he stare, at best if "Jack" was insightful he may notice Mordred glance up and down but for a moment at the new form. "Tsk and here I thought I was already strange." He said learning something new about himself in this day and at that moment. He imagined saying "Jack was attractive" to be a rather humorous statement. Were such creatures.. No beings were they genderless? Or was it more complex than that? Mordred was no scholar and academic studies was not his strong suit. He didn't know but unless it helped them on their mission he wouldn't ask neither. Instead he would take formation with the others while keeping his eyes peeled.
OOC In case any insight or anything is made on him or if it's needed I'll do a deception check for hiding his glance etc.
Jack definitely caught that glance from Mordred. Though she's not quite sure what it was for, she knows he's thinking about something. She moves to where Mordred is at the front, matching her pace to his. "You know, if you have questions you can ask them. About what I am, I mean." It's not like she's never been stared at before---both in static and dynamic forms. She was very open with her shapechanging and so were the other changelings that she interacted with at home, but it's still a common occurrence. Half of her clients didn't know she was a changeling, they all thought her shop was run by multiple people. It was a part of her brand, after all! She was used to questions and looks and ending up in strange, almost comical situations due to great misunderstandings. Memories of admirers passing by the shop and leaving a message for another version of herself and memories of "Tinker Jack" being asked where "Carpenter Jack" was and having to sneak below the counter, only to pop up again as the requested Jack pass lazily through her mind like a movie reel. She shakes her head, dispelling the memories. "I won't find offense, it's probably things I've already been asked before."

Mordred had attempted to avoid eye contact with "Jack." However she had caught pace with him asking him what he was thinking. Mordred had shook his head, his blonde hair ruffling in the way as he adjusted himself. He had no questions.. Had he? Well perhaps he thought of a few, he didn't want to share those questions not one bit. However, if he hadn't she.. They may figure out he was simply leering. That didn't exactly foster trust among comrades to be sure. Mordred had done his damnest to recapture his composure. That would be the last time she agreed with him...openly. Her amber-red eyes sharpened as her brows came down lower, giving her eye itself a fierce look as she considered something ... when the jester of the group provided the perfect distraction... atleast long enough for Kashika to collect her thoughts. "Ah, well, it was mostly just folk tales. The one I remember best was about - I think - a changeling who passed through the same town with a dozen faces in a gambit to rescue her? lover, or mother or some such," said Tamara in reply to Jack. "As for work, I think it's obvious that someone like you would make an amazing con artist or thief, if you're open to that kind of thing."
Tamara rolled her eyes as Nygil drank from the shadow water anyway. And then several others joining in because it granted them temporary darkvision they didn't need with an elf and aasimar traveling with them. She just shook her head. She'd have to hope there were no side effects that would lower her companions' capabilities.
With the temporary distraction, Kashika whispered into her ear. Tamara gritted her teeth, but didn't bother to object. There was no other way to get in on whatever she was up to and if it turned out to be horrible later, she could spill it to the others herself. "Fine, so help me understand it. I can't see the need for this secrecy."
Tamara drifts to the back of the group, needing some space to think, but she still pays attention to the road ahead.

Kashika dips her small hands into the river, mimicking a prospector panning for gold. When the water drains, 5 small stars sit in her palms.
As the group walks and talks, Mordred and Jumble can soon make out a faint red-orange glow on the horizon. Jack, who had been traveling in the middle of the group, also can make out this faint light upon walking up to Mordred. Nygil is to wrapped up in looking for more bugs to punch to notice anything.
Despite gaining darkvision, Rethan does not notice anything out of the ordinary. Kashika (rolled 15 in game log) thinks she can hear a faint whistling noise, as if the wind is getting stronger. Tamara, and Zalten both scan the landscape from their position at the back of the group, both can make out the harsh light of Dawn glowing in the distance, but more importantly, both look behind, and see the giant sandstorm swirling towards the traveling champions. Tamara and Zalten both feel a slight shift in the sand beneath their feet. However, Tamara, can see a slight mound starting to form close to Mordred.
You would guess that you are about a mile outside of Dawn.
Before any of you have time to yell, the group is engulfed in swirling sand. All visibility is reduced to 4 x10ft, and all of you need to make a Con check with advantage since you got the desert gear. DC of 16 or take 5 slashing damage. You also need to make a Dex check, DC 16 or be blinded If you drank the water and fail this check, you will also take 2slashing damage to your face. Tamara, Kashika, and Zalten have advantage on this check.
As Kashika talks to him, Zalten's face shifts, and he glances around to the rest of the group quickly, ensuring no one is close enough to hear. He whispers back, saying "So be it. I'm honored you trust me enough with whatever this plan is, and I'll keep your secret safe from the others. What exactly is it that you have in mind?" Even as he says this, he's not sure exactly how much he beleives in what he is saying, his distaste for trickery and scheming leading him to be a bit wary of whatever it is Kashika has in mind. He knows his god would likely not approve of whatever this plan may be, but he hopes that if it will get him home faster and safer, he will be understanding
Watching out around the group, he spots the sandstorm whirling behind the group and goes to shout to the rest of his companions, but before he can get a word out, the whirling sand is already upon the group. Even with the desert gear they picked up, he can still feel the sand cutting at him and the wind threatening to push him over as he attempts to keep moving in the storm

The sand slashes at him as he moves through the storm, roughing him up a bit, but he's able to keep sight on the some of the rest of the group even with the whirling sand, though his visibility is massively reduced. The moment he feels some movment below his feet, he jolts in alarm and turns to anyone he can see near him, saying "The sand is shifting beneath us. Stay on guard. I'm worried there's something here". He speaks pointedly, the worry in his voice quite clear, though he tries to remain as quiet as he can
