Ragmin checks over the snake's body. The skin has been shredded when the skeleton broke out, and looks difficult to scavenge from.
OOC: Especially since Ragmin doesn't really have a dagger or other large blade to cut it up with. A mess kit knife won't really do well.
If anyone wants to scavenge some skin pieces, they can make an Investigation roll, then a Survival check with disadvantage.
Thea investigates the remains of the snake, using her keen and cool logic to discover the cause of this.
Arcana: The act of necromancy uses the power of the negative energy plane to animate the corpse of a creature. The standard abilities of a lower powered necromancer would only be able to animate a humanoid creature, and usually requires the target to be deceased at the time of casting.
Insight: The snake obviously was here to pick off a couple of people who strayed away from the group, as its target was the merchant since he was away from the camp. It was an easy target, but it was slain too quickly to attempt an escape. All animal instincts, really.
Investigation: As she looks through the corpse, she spots several speckled black bits of rock within the flesh, as if the snake had swallowed some black gravel.
Nature: A giant snake like this is fairly uncommon in this part of the grasslands, more likely to be somewhere like the nearby forests. Perhaps something made it relocate or it was drawn to the party's camp as a potential place to feed.
Thea begins to examine the remains of the serpent.
Arcana: While necromancy is a trait than can reanimate a dead body, those practised arts are typically cast upon a body that is already deceased. This snake rose as a skeleton without a necromancer to cast it on the creature.
Insight: The snake was relying on instinct by the looks of things. The merchant was an easy target, distancing himself from the camp to make a perfect meal for a snake this size.
Investigation: Looking at the parts that Canary is sifting through, there appears to be speckles of black rock in the remains, as if the snake had consumed a bunch of gravel.
Nature: A snake this size is more likely to live closer to the forest, where its slightly darker tone scales would blend better and it can use its size to slither either on the ground or the along the tree's trunks.
Canary decides that the snake's skin could be a useful in the future, and begins looking for some parts to salvage.
Investigation: Checking for through the corpse, the better parts that can be taken are the underbelly since the skeleton broke out of the top of the body. It's smoother, but less sturdy than the top. He notes that there is some gravel mixed into the flesh from the ground, so it wouldn't be great for food unless a lot of time to sift through and clean the meat was spent.
Survival: It'll take about 20 minutes of salvaging, but there is enough cut out to make something such as some boots should you find a cobbler, or some boots and some gloves for a small creature. The other parts have strong rips in the skin and aren't particularly usable. The tears are so large and staggered that a mending won't be useful in stitching it back together.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Thea remains next to the snakes body for a while, closing her eyes on and off again for a few moments. Then, with a reluctant sniffing, she attempts to retrieve one of the shady rocks that are hidden within the reptiles flesh.
Thea is not particularly proficient with the use of necromancy. While she can picture that this animal was not subjected to a simple reanimation, Thea's still lacking information to discern what dimension of necrotic forces her group is facing as of now. Reminding herself that other creatures rely on certain components to wield their powers, she wants to find out whether these stones might be one of the secret necessities for such rituals.
Thea puts her hands carefully into some of the snake's bloody remains, taking out a few pieces of the tiny pieces of sharp rock. It looks like it could be from the same rock, just broken into pieces.
Sleight of Hand: Please can Thea make a DC 10 Sleight of Hand check to remove the rocks carefully. On a failure take 1 point of piercing damage.
It is possible that the rocks could be a component in a spell, as precious rocks are used in certain magics. Perhaps a wizard will have a better insight on these shards.
As the creature Falls apart Filtch holsters his blades, he hasn't seen anything like this before at-least this close to All Haven he hasn't either way the fight is done and he certainly isn't going to try and eat whatever's left of the snake.
"Well that certainly was a disappointment." He sputters. To his companions it might seem as though he was talking about the snake, which in a way he was in part but mostly he was being critical of his own performance. He makes his way back over to the tent to try and catch some last minute shut eye before they get back on the move, not wanting to make it apparent to the others that he had exerted himself against the snake though he does take lievyra up on two of the good berries.

Jarrad approaches the group after speaking with the very annoyed merchant man, who wanders back to his caravan cart. "Thank you for your aid, travellers." He says. "Since we're up early, does anyone want to join me on finding something to add to our breakfast? I think we'll have an hour or so before we'll be getting ready for the day."

Thea reaches out with her hand to grab a handfull of tiny black stones. As she feels her fingers close around the rocks, she twitches and with gritted teeth pulls back her arm. She opens her hand to see that part of what might originally have been a stone the size of her fist that was probably crushed within the animal, is now piercing the skin of her palm. With an angry glare at the stones and a short sigh, Thea draws back the pointy ends.
Still carrying the pieces in her hand and with a shy look of embarassment on her face, she sneaks over to the green leaf where Liavyre had put the berries on. She grabs one of them and starts chewing it while turning back to the camp, looking for a certain halfling.
"Since this has just happened," Jarrad gestures to the fallen snake beast, "It's probably best to go in numbers. Three seems like a good amount." He then shows a small whistle on a leather strap around his neck. "I can always call an alarm if it's something we can't handle."
Ragmin, Liavyre, and Jarrad make their way a little off the beaten path together looking for a bit of extra food. Between them they manage to forage some wild berries from some bushes in the thick grass, with Jarrad and Ragmin managing to grab a couple of rabbits. Liavyre also finds a few wild garlic that can be used to help garnish some of their food. Between them they return with plenty of provisions to have a decent meal between the caravan and the travellers.
For those back at camp, they note that Pip was up and watching the investigation from a distance, using his small stature to hide in the thick grass. The remainder of the guards keep a watch while people begin their morning rituals, some giving their praise to Pelor for bringing defenders of light to protect against the creature of the night that saught to slay them.
When we all arrive at camp after foraging Liavyre will say, "The goodberrries I created will give you a day's nutrition and will heal you, just in case anyone prefers them. There are several left by the looks if it."
She eats one of the goodberries to fill her stomach instead of rabbit and will go ask Pip, "How long do you think we will spend at this camp? If there are more of those snakes or other beasts around then we shouldn't stay in one spot for long. Our scent will be noticed."
Is this a sparsely wooded area? Basically, are there any other trees in the camp area that do not have bees in them? Liavyre would like to go on a lower branch to be casually be a lookout and relax while the others eat. (While not splitting the party)
