While Asmodeus is a divine being, he is not the patron god of humans. He does, however, currently have lordship over drow, devils, and demons, and still tempts mortals in order to claim them in the afterlife.
"Actually, that foul devil could never claim ownership of even the most vile humans, no matter how much he tries. If these humans are untouched by the light of Pelor, they could not know of any gods. Perhaps they have none, or they are so foolish as to believe that they are gods themselves. It could be a sign from Pelor indicating that to eradicate evil from our society, we must spread his word to every soul, no matter how fortunate."

Scenario: The two statues were too busy with their monologue that the party gets to act. They are 15 feet away from the party, the ground around them covered in shattered pieces of other dark statues. There are columns on the outer area of the room for cover, as well as the lighter statue pieces of the "good" races.

Fjorgin steps forward, his morningstar raring for some action as it smashes into the side of the statue. A minor crack appears in its side. (Statue #1: 8 damage)

Thea thrust forward with her psionic powers. However, it appears to have no effect on the statue. It seems that the construct has nothing for her Mind Thrust to target.
"We came quite close though." Realizing that her spell does not appear to inflict any damage upon the statue, Thea quickly warns the others. "I don't quite know what to make of it, but at least part of my magic is useless against those creatures, so don't expect too much of me."

Liavyre's aim is true as the arrow sticks into the black stone figure, while Fjorgin backs up the attack with a strong melee blow. The arrow caused a crack in its torso, now shattered open by Fjorgin's swing of his weapon. It is still animate, but very badly damaged. (Statue #1: 30 damage)
A little alienated because her previous attack did not result in anything at all, Thea goes for a change of tactics and delivers another cautious attack on statue 1:

Unfortunately the "shame" of humans could be anything. Their race is young and full of mistakes in the eyes of the elves.
Liavyre attempts to answer, she is satisfied that Pelor is probably their deity.
"You are humans, your strength is your adaptability, your shame is your lust for power given your short lifespan, your deity is Pelor."
