The rock creature opens its eye as it looks at the four intruders to his lair, its mouth lined with long teeth and its far-reaching fleshy tentacles start to sprout from its body waving in the air, indicating this is not what the group thought it would be.

Sandral, seeing this strange combination of flesh and stone, keeps to his cover, and will ready to cast a Sacred Flame against the creature should it attempt to use those tendrils to reach for someone, in a hope of distracting it to perhaps redirect to him.

Rinc successfully evades the attack but the rest were entangled by the long reaching tendrils. The creature then pull them closer to its gaping mouth as if trying to take a bite at their succulent flesh.
From your knowledge that you knew as you grew up in you household, the traits of having long tendrils and camouflaging itself as a normal rock, it matches an underdark dwelling creature called Roper.
False Appearance. While the roper remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from a normal cave formation, such as a stalagmite.
Grasping Tendrils. The roper can have up to six tendrils at a time. Each tendril can be attacked (AC 20; 10 hit points; immunity to poison and psychic damage). Destroying a tendril deals no damage to the roper, which can extrude a replacement tendril on its next turn. A tendril can also be broken if a creature takes an action and succeeds on a DC 15 Strength check against it.
Spider Climb. The roper can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.
