As Mills is looking around, searching for the remnants of any rituals that may have been cast, he accidentally kicks up a group of ravens that had been picking away at the now exposed flesh of the corpses in the mass grave. They take to flight, for just a moment, but then land nearby on the heap of one of the other mounds of earth, squawking and turning their heads to get a better look at this new group of interlopers.
Gor sighs at Lucky's rude demeanor "Fine, stay still and do not frighten them" and ritually casts speaks with animals
If the animals hang around Gor will ask "Dear friends, what have you seen over the past day?" Gor rummages in his pouches for nuts and seeds and holds his hand out
One of the ravens, clearly older than the rest because some of his black feathers are starting to change over to white around his beak and along his neck, flaps over and lands easily on Gor's arm, and begins snapping up the nuts and seeds in his palm. When he speaks, Gor hears it as a crackling sound like two rocks being scraped together. All the others just hear the raven squawking.
"Squawk! Dead men don't stay dead! Squawk! Wingless dragons come. Dead men break ground, walk, wingless dragons follow."
The raven quirks its head and looks at Gor for a moment then croaks, "Squawk! Three sent shadow power into the ground. Two like metal turtles stood near and watched. Squawk! Then all followed the dead. They came from the hunt grass and left to the mountains. Squawk!"
“Thank you my friend” Gor turns tot he group “A few wingless dragons raised the dead surrounded by metal turtles….They seem to have retreated to the mountains” Gor says matter of factly
Lucky rolls his eyes and mutters. Smug elf, but he's useful I guess. It's going to be dark soon. If we leave now we might see the smoke of a camp fire.
But I don't see in the dark so let's go back toss the Mayor's place for fun and start in the morning? But ill do what Zanoth and Drax wish on this.
”Wandering a frozen forest in the dark searching for monsters seems like a fools game, but then we let the enemy get further and further every minute we delay. Hardship is in my nature, we are at full strength and ready for travel, so I am not averse to following their trail if we are in agreement… Lucky will just have to take it easy with the brandy to make it last.”
"The further our enemies get, the harder they will be to find, especially once they get to the mountains. The stone ground makes it near impossible to find tracks. I trust that you all can handle a few nights sleep in the wilderness, no?"
Gor thinks for a moment "Let me ask the birds one more question....perhaps they saw which way they escaped to....Do any of you have any questions?" Gor turns to the bird and asks "Which way did they go into the mountains?"
Ya can they lead us in the direction they went? Or at least to the point they lost sight of them? Also do they know if any treasure was turned up as the dead rose from the earth? You know what ask that question first.
The hoary raven on Gor's forearm squawks loudly in answer to his latest question. "To man town! Squawk!" Immediately the entire group of ravens echoes his answer. Gor's friends just hear all the ravens squawking, but he hears "man town, man town, squawk, man town" repeated over and over again by the birds. Which, of course makes complete sense, because the wingless dragons came here to call up an undead army as their distraction so they could steal Feorac's heirloom amulet. Obviously the skeletons and those that raised them made a straight line for Hyssop Ridge. If the group wanted to know where the wingless dragons went after that, they'd need to find some observant animals that lived much closer to town.
Meanwhile Drax gets right down near the ground and even uses his weapon to push apart some of the mostly skeletal corpses that still remain in this battlefield mass grave. Just about everything in the graves has decayed to rust and dust over the long years since the Goblin Wars. The dragonborn was just about to give up when a shiny glint of metal caught his eye after he flipped over one of the corpses. A small metallic object, unaffected by the slow passage of time, went tumbling out of a skeletal hand, tink, tink, tink against some bones to fall in the dirt just near his clawed feet. Reaching down to pick up the object, Drax sees that it is a perfect cube, no, not a cube, a single die, with sides marked with the Common numbers one through six. Picking the die up in two fingers Drax immediately feels the hum and tingle of magic reverberate through his body. This six-sided die resisted rust and decay over the years because it's magical, but why would anyone waste valuable magical energy to infuse a six-sided die?
Gor turns to his group "The birds have no more information for us. If we want to know where the dragonborn went I would need to find some animals in town. They came here, raised their army, and stole the trinket. If we want to know more I have to question an animal in town"

Mills frowns. "They came out of the ground... They weren't dug up first. Might be there's more here to clue us in than tracks."
Mills will look around, looking to learn more about the mass grave and for any sign of ritual or spell craft used.

Hey you tree hugger types can talk to animals right?
Lucky asks looming at Gor and Mills.
Ask the birds what happened here. Umm Lord Elf.
Lucky gags a little as he trys to play nice addressing Gor as lord.

Gor smiles and offers more food to the elder rave "Did you see a wingless dragon wave their arms like a bird before the dead walked?"
Drax, hearing gors second question to the bird, looks quizzical.
"Wingless dragons? So my kind are the ones that did this?"
Hi.
The raven quirks its head and looks at Gor for a moment then croaks, "Squawk! Three sent shadow power into the ground. Two like metal turtles stood near and watched. Squawk! Then all followed the dead. They came from the hunt grass and left to the mountains. Squawk!"
Does "to the mountains" give us enough of a direction to head out and pick up the trail again?

Drax agrees with Zanoth.

Hi.
Lucky holds up the bottle of brandy, now nearly empty and sighs looking at Zanoth.
Back on the road huh guess we can toss the Mayor's house later and plant the amulet once we found it.
Alright lead the way before I lose my nerve. I'm mugging the first Kolbold we find...
Very unhappy he's not getting another night in the suite and no more free food for a bit Lucky falls into his usual step Zanoth's left ready to move.
Gor thinks for a moment "Let me ask the birds one more question....perhaps they saw which way they escaped to....Do any of you have any questions?" Gor turns to the bird and asks "Which way did they go into the mountains?"

Drax, hearing Lucky's question, would like to look for upturned treasure, or valuables.
