Mirri's eyes grow wide as she listens to Duanphen's information. "Ahh yes, both of those are tricksy fey indeed."
She asks the gem stall owner, "Hello fine shopkeeper. I can see by the artful arrangement of your stall that you have had no trickster creatures causing havoc here, but have you happened to see any flying cats or flying monkeys recently? We have seen the remains of sweet persimmon fruit in the street here. Do you recall anything about it being left there or where one might be able to find such delicacies for ourselves?"
“No, no shops I know of sell persimmons. I haven’t seen anything out of the ordinary, either. Now, can I tempt you to finely cut crystals? Only 50 gp per ½ pound pouch!” The human replies, trying to draw your attention to the glittering stones.
"Ooh, crystals!" Medqull exclaims as he hurries to the gem stall. He picks up a few stones to take a closer look. "Yarace, bring my—" he turns to find his halfling retainer not there, only then remembering that he sent the man back to the Citadel, "Oh. Ah, well, perhaps another time," he says to the stallkeeper with a sad shake of his head.
[I considered rolling something like an Investigation to see if the gems are real (and if not we'd have something to strongarm the vendor with to maybe remember some more), but I've established that Medqull is kinda a sucker, I don't think he'd even think they might be fake.]
Mirri is also distracted by the glittering crystals for a few minutes, tossing them up in the air and almost juggling them to make them catch the light, before catching them in one hand and passing them back to the shopkeeper. "They are delightful! Apologies, good sir, we must leave your scintillating wares as we are on the hunt for information. And supper."
She turns to Medqull. "Never mind. We can come back once we've solved the mystery and earned some gold to spend."
"Unless--" she cocks a head back to the shopkeeper, "You might trade them to us for the price of a song? A literal song, not just a good price, good sir."
Mirri: The shopkeeper raises an eyebrow, intruiged. "A song? How about this: Sing me an enjoyable song and I'll give you one carat of lapis lazuli, free of charge."
Duanphen, Spotty: The shopkeeper seems to be entirely truthful.

Duanphen is bamboozled by the turn of events, " Well, that was unexpected."
She turned to the shopkeeper, " Sorry, so rude of me. Duanphen Boonmee. And you are? Are you sure you don't recall any particular unusual happenings or strangers in the market recently?"
She turned to the others, " We should talk to the street sweepers and panhandlers as well, they tend to see everything that others don't notice."
The shopkeeper laughs, and hands Mirri a small pouch of lapis lazuli stones. He turns to Duanphen and says, "No, I haven't seen anything or anyone unusual in the market."
Mirri tosses the pouch in the air with glee, then catches it again and stows the stones in her backpack. "My thanks, Keeper of Glimmering Stones!"
She turns to the rest of the group. "I too would love some persimmon, but everyone has told us that they are not sold in this marketplace. They must be getting them from somewhere though..."
"Shall we continue to the seafood stall? Keeping an eye out for persimmons, of course."
Duanphen would usually get persimmons from Monkey Mask Farm, a well-known farm that grows fruits. They do not, however have a stall in the night market, and locals often get their wares from the traveling cart that passes through the market every four months.

"Theres a cart that comes through every four months or so, I usually just buy them direct from the growers at Monkey Mask because I'm out in the hills so often."
" Do any of us have any magics that could make them? Or something that looks like/smells like them?"
" Yes, onto Xungoon Family Seafood and after that lets head to the Games and see what we can find out there."

Ravo moves up to the merchant's stand, and just tilts his head down to see what the merchant is trying to sell.
"They do seem... like nice gems"

Spotty also tries to get a read on the shopkeeper.

Duanphen, Spotty: The shopkeeper seems to be entirely truthful.
Mirri laughs and then trills a tune on her birdpipes to start the song.
"Beautiful gems, scintillating rocks,
All attracting to the discerning eye.
But 'ware of the stone with the gold glint locks
A Fae trick to stop the passersby..."
She trills the pipes to form the chorus, hopping and skipping around the forecourt of the shop, before finishing with a flourish.

"Oh, bravo, bravo!" Medqull applauds Mirri's song. "I say, that was rather good, what?" he says to the shopkeeper conversationally.

Ravo patiently waits and watches his new acquaintances. Listening closely in case there is something he can help with.
