For a moment, Zim wondered if the others were suffering similarly from this audial onslaught. A moment after that, he barely noticed that anyone else was there at all. This was real pain! As he moved closer to the building, the increase of volume penetrated past Zim's ability to handle it. After a very unsettling "pop" went off in both of his ears simultaneously, none of the sounds around him held any distinction of their own any longer. He now existed in a fuzzy bubble that made everything sound quite like he had just stuck his head into a bucket of water. The 'pop' had come with a slight pain that had now receded since everything wasn't quite so loud anymore. Zim could still feel the concussive beats of the music hit his body and his ear drums as they kept time amidst a sea of indistinct noise.
Finding the door around back, Zim walked up and tried the handle. Locked. Feeling frustrated, he backed off a few steps to consider their options. Seeing Zahira and Zephyro investigate the door, Zim suddenly felt irritated at the whole situation. Here they were, about to try to enter an abandoned building for what? Because someone inside of it was playing their music too loudly? Flurry's face had come into Zim's thoughts. He was sure the ice cream shop owner didn't appreciate this sort of noise pollution keeping potential customers away, but the old man was certainly too nice to do anything about it. Then of course, there were the things that Zim couldn't explain. He was sure the reason he was suffering so much right now was due to the very thing that piqued his interest and drew him to check this place out. Finally, there was the case of the missing student KZZZT had discussed inside the shop. Nothing about what was happening now seemed to be linked to that besides that this place was super creepy. Zim really didn't expect to find anything related to the missing boy here.
Zim saw Zahira pull out what looked like thin metal strips from somewhere and was considering the handle of the door. WHAT WAS SHE THINKING!??? It might be one thing to run around inside an abandoned building, but if a door is locked, this place might not be so abandoned! Someone clearly cared enough to at least try to keep out others. Zim wanted to stop her. He wanted to yell at her to stop, but he stopped himself instead. What was wrong with him?? Zim got upset at times just like anyone else, but something like this wouldn't have upset him normally. Frustrated at everything, Zim abandoned any ideas of trying to explain himself. Something still needed to be done for Flurry's sake, but breaking the law should be avoided at all costs. Moving up to the door to block anyone from trying anything illegal, Zim began to pound and kick at the door furiously. Some kind of negative energy had found itself a place within him, and he needed to get it out! Zim finished his barrage on the door by using his shield on it a number of times. He didn't care if he broke the door down. That sweet old man had given Zim and his whole team free ice cream! Zim had some words for whoever might be inside!
I'll wait for Kirai and the others to post but for Zim.. For choosing roleplay over mechanics I applaud that really hard xD Zim's inspiration is a D12 and also if he's actually trying to break the door down give me an athletic's check ^~^ (You can use the D12 on this if you wish)
As for if Zahira got to the door first or if Zim did you guys can make a contested flat dexterity check ^~^
It looks like Zim really wanted to pound on that door!
Now for the Athletics check, which I hope is a fail. In Zim's madness, he started this whole thing wanting to not break the law! lol (good thing he has -1 Str lol)
Zephyro nods and takes a step away from the door as to let Zahira get to work. This probably is illegal, but judging from the state of this building. Whoever is in there, probably isn't supposed to be. While he somewhat doubts the place has anything to do with the missing student, something about it doesn't feel right. He glances at Zim and Trick, both of whom still look irritated, before looking back at Zahira.
Suddenly, Zim barges past him, trying to stop Zahira and starting to bang on the door. Taking a second to register what is going on, his body reacts almost faster than his mind. He grabs Zim's shoulders and tries to pull him away from the door. "What the heck are you doing?! If you want to knock before we enter we should have just gone to the front door!"
Breaking in through the use of lock picks may be illegal, but so would breaking the door down. At least unlocking the door wouldn't be considered destruction of property. If he can't pull the bard away, and he continues to bang on the door, Zeph will try to force his way between Zim and the door. Spreading his arms to either side to drive the point home. "Cut it out! What happened to evaluating the situation before rushing in!" The young elf is starting to look a bit irritated himself. What happened to teamwork? If Zim had a problem with their plan he should have said something instead of barging in front of them! While he looks a bit angry, eyes narrowed and brow furrowed, Zeph is also a bit concerned. Not because he's worried someone heard the bard beating on the door, the blasted music probably drowned that out, no, he's concerned because this didn't seem like something Zim would normally do.
Kuro frowns a little as Zim pushes past Zahira and starts beating on the door... what is he trying to accomplish? He seemed...angry about something, but what? Kuro's frown deepens, and he focuses on just keeping his ears plugged. Better to let Zephiro handle this for now. Part of him wants to just walk away. Why are they here anyways? Because of Len? Or did someone think of some other reason to go poking around this place... did they really just like Flurry so much that they want to solve this problem for him? ...they should just call the cops in that case. That was a much simpler and less risky option.
(OOC: For sure, finesse would be needed if he's really trying not to damage anything other than the lock... he's imagining his father completely obliterating the lock and most of the door too for that matter lol. Kuro will probably resort to frostbite to maybe break the mechanism that's keeping the lock in place. Just because he feels like it would be less noticeable.)
As Trick approached the warehouse with the rest of them he flattened his ears a bit. The music was of course so much louder now that they were closer. He didn't like it. This made his ears hurt. He rubbed one of his ears subconsciously as he listened to what was being said. It would seem that he may have to climb the building. Would that make the music even louder than? A sudden feeling hit him. Anger. Frustration. NO. He didn't want to climb the building. He shouldn't have to.
"I don't want to climb up there if I don't have to."
Not completely a flat out refusal, but he definitely didn't feel compliant at the moment. Odd. It wasn't as if he wasn't good at climbing. He had done rather well in the woods of home. He could climb trees and the like. It really helped with him wanting to ambush things. He didn't quite understand why he was feeling so angry. So frustrated. It had to be this damned music and how it was making his ears hurt so badly. There had to be a way to shut it off.
At least they had found a back door. That meant that there wouldn't be any real need to climb the building then would there? Seems like Zim had the right idea. Breaking in. The quicker they go in the better. Actually he was all for it though it didn't seem like the rest of the party was. Why not? Didn't this music drive them a little crazy too? It was hard to think completely clearly like this. He normally liked a stealthy approach.
OOC I looked at the gamelog and couldn't believe the nat 20 and nat 1 side by side lmao. But it's a dex check not a dex save so his dexterity modifier at LV 2 probably isn't plus +4 but I'm sure that nat 20 is still hard to beat haha xD
Did Kuro make the WIS and CON save with advantage? (Covering his ears)
He could use Frostbite to melt the lock, either a straight Charisma roll (Spell caster mod) or an arcana roll up to you ^~^

He had shoved his way to the door quick, quicker than anyone he bashes his body against the door in a futile effort. (Take 1d4 bludgeoning damage) he wasn't careful in this endeavor hurting his shoulder in this. There was a thud but however it seemed the music hadn't stopped, whoever was inside hadn't heard the attempt that was made. Zephyro tried to beat Zim to the door, though Zim's bash wasn't effective his speed to the door was rather hard to beat. Luckily they weren't under any attack and it doesn't sound like anyone noticed.. For now.
(If Zahira adds her D8 and turns her 13 to a 15 or higher)
A click can be heard the lock deftly becomes undone the door shut but no longer locked.
(If Zahira doesn't add her D8)
With a click and clank the lock became completely jammed now! It seems Kuro's work taking it out with magic may be cut out for him now.
Zahira is concentrated on unlocking the door when she's suddenly pushed away by Zim, who starts banging the door with his shield like crazy.
- What the hell, Zim?? - she says angrily and checks her lockpick with a worried. He better have not broken it in his sudden outburst...! Luckily, it seems that is not the case.
Still upset, she's about to say something to the usually calmed bard, but Zephyro is already doing that so she just let's the bard finish with his display and she prays that no one inside the warehouse has heard him. What the hell was that? Zim is not like this! Zahira looks at Trick and realizes he half-tabaxi seems to be rather pissed too, though not maybe as much as the bard. Could this be an effect of the music being so loud ...? She looks at them both from a little afar, trying to determine if she could help them with some magic or by just going back to Flurry and asking him for a little cotton from the shop's first aid kit and shoving it into everyone's ears. (Ooc: arcana check in the private thread: 15).
In any case, Zim seems to have finished banging the door and fortunately no one inside seems to have heard it. Apparently at least. So she just goes back to the door and says:
- Well, if you've finished blowing off steam, Zim, let me keep doing this silently, will you? - she works for a little while with the lock pick, and a few moments later she says - Ta-dah! There. And without causing a ruckus. And please, just... be careful with my lock pick, all right? This is not something I use just to open locked doors: it's my arcane focus, after all. And I need it to cast magic and to do artificer thingies, like Zephyro's sickle infusion. So... no more bumps while I'm using it, please? - she looks at Zim when saying this, though perhaps to no avail as he seems to be not himself at that moment.
(OOC: d8 Inspiration rolled in private thread = 4 + the previous 13 beats the DC15 for unlocking the door).
Zim's attempt at a barrage on the door hadn't gone as he had intended. His shield had turned when it had hit the door frame and twisted his wrist, which in turn, turned his elbow a little too sharply. As he pulled his strike back in pain, Zephyro had managed to get between Zim and the door. This made the bardic fighter's eyes go wild for a moment as he nearly lunged back for another go at the door, obstacle or no. Then Zim caught a look at Zephyro and Zahira; at their confused and concerned faces. He noticed how their respective auras were familiar and unchanged. They were trying frantically to speak to him, though he understood them not, but he could tell that he had to be the one out of line here.
Zim brought his hands to his face, which caused his shield to hide whatever shame his whole upper body might have displayed. He then backed away from the door and the others a few feet where he sat down and put his head between his knees. He needed to collect his swirling emotions and take a number of deep breaths. Trying his best to do so quickly as to not be a drag on the rest of the team, Zim reached for his lessons. Between the deep breaths and his attempts to fight back the negativity spiders crawling around his brain, the half elf repeated to himself over and over, "Never be offended, never be afraid. Never be OFFENDED, never be AFRAID!" It no longer mattered that he couldn't even hear himself say it.
OOC
As for the 1d4 damage, are you going to roll that, Shield, or should I?
Zephyro watches as Zim backs away, then glances from the half-elf to Trick, and back again. Those two were acting strange. He'd never seen either of them look that angry before, what caused their sudden mood change? The music? Was the music affecting them somehow? He thinks, searching his memory for any kind of spell that could cause this type of reaction. He'd heard about charming people, and even a spell called suggestion, but why would someone use those spells to purposefully make someone angry? Whatever magic this was, it definitely isn't being used at a party. (Arcana check was 13)
He glares up at the windows, before sighing and looking back at Zim and Trick. "Perhaps we should let you two cool off a bit before heading in..." He begins speaking, then trails off. Trick did answer him, but Zim didn't seem to be able to understand him. Did the music cause him to go deaf?
He glances at Zahira, who had just finished picking the lock, "You can hear me right?"
Barely able to hear Trick's words, Kuro nods in agreement. He doesn't want to climb up there either, and they definitely don't have to do it. "Lets just go then," he mumbles, his voice most likely inaudible over the loud music. He raises an eyebrow when Zim starts...chanting or something after backing away from the door. Good grief, what is going on? Did the music pound all the sense out of their heads? He presses his hands harder over his ears, seriously debating whether or not to just leave.
However, he then notices that Zahira had actually gotten the door unlocked. Ugh, looks like they are going in after all. He gives his team members a flat look as if to say, "well then lets hurry up and get this over with", while at the same time saying, "this is stupid, lets get out of here." He doesn't make any sort of move to do anything, instead focusing on keeping his ears firmly covered.
After a short time, Zim felt he had gotten better control of himself. He still felt unnatural anger, but he could identify it as alien now and could separate himself from it a little, at least. He noticed that the flare-up of anger had occurred when he had tried to take action himself. He felt as if he would speak or act out of turn at all, he might just regret it. He decided that, no matter what his thoughts about a situation or the others' actions, Zim would surrender his feelings to simply follow Zephyro's lead. Looking up, he saw that the door was suddenly open!
Taking one last deep breath, Zim stood to his feet and readied himself. He felt a surge of energy come back to him as he felt himself get a Second Wind (Rolled 1d10+1 and got a 10. Even if the damage rolled from the door is a 4, Zim will still be at full hp). Zim gave those at the door a nod to indicate that he was ok now and ready for whatever.
- Yes, I can!!- Zahira responds to Zephyro - Hey, seeing that no one seems to have heard Zim hitting the door, let me go to Flurry's and ask him for some cotton to put it in out ears. Maybe this will help with the sound.
(OOC: Flurry's just in front of the warehouse so I take It that it shouldn't take Zahira more than 5 minutes to go there and come back with the cotton)
- There you go. Let's put this in our ears and it should help a little. Inside the house we're may need to comunicate with gestures or even through Crystal messages if we hace problems hearing ourselves.
Zahira gives Zephyro ad Kuro the cotton, but in Zim and Trick's cases, she approaches them, tries to make them see that this will be helpful for them and will try to put it into their ears herself, instead of waiting for them to do it themselves (she's not sure they will do it for themselves in their state).
Zephyro nods to Zahira, "Alright, just making sure." He gestures to Zim and Trick, "I'm not sure if those two can hear us very well. Am I right about that?" He turns to face Zim and Trick as he says the last part, trying to see if they react to his words.
He watches Zahira as she leaves to get cotton or something else to shield their ears, then glances back at the door. Walking up to it, he carefully peers inside. He's not looking for anything in particular, just getting a general idea of what they might be about to walk into.
Perception: 4
Once Zahira returns, he takes the cotton, but does not put it in his ears just yet. "I'll hold onto this. If the music starts getting to me, or I feel like it's about to, then I will plug my ears. But for now, I'd prefer to keep all my senses as sharp as possible."
He gestures to the door, "Shall we? If everyone is ready, I'll take the lead."
If Zephyro opens the door he will see an empty backroom and three more doors, one on the far right one in the middle and one at the left. The warehouse seemed wooden outside and yet the floor seemed made of.. Stone?
OOC Zim can get a second con save for his ears to start restoring their healing (with the cotton and second wind I'd say that's fair) And he can get another wisdom save
Trick can also get another wisdom save as well!
Also the back seems completely empty so they can still leave or venture forward up to them ^~^
The half-elf still couldn't hear anything, but he thought he could make out "everyone" and "ready" while Zephyro's lips moved. Not wanting to let any of them down, Zim nodded and kept himself at the ready.
When Zahira had come and tapped him to gesture with the cotton ball, his anger had subsided a little. He softened his face for her and tilted his head a bit to assist her in her task. Squeezing the grip on his shield with more determination then irritation now, Zim felt like he was as ready as he would be if they were to go in now.
Kuro accepts the cotton, hastily shoving it into his ears and then covering them again as if not trusting the cotton to do the job. This results in him being almost as deaf as Zim and Trick, though if someone looks like they are talking directly to him he will lift one hand slightly to try to let some sound in. He doesn't look thrilled at the prospect of going in... though his blank expression doesn't change much.
Zahira lets out a little sigh after helping Zim. She had been angry because of his sudden outburst, but seeing that the half-elf is visibly trying his best to overcome the effect the music has caused on him, that anger dissipates.
She nods at Zephyro when he says that he prefers not to use the cotton just yet, but she puts it into her ears, which leaves her to hear only muffled sounds same as Kuro and Zim. It's going to be tough to communicate this way, but they can always try to do it by gesticulating. Or, ... hmmm ... she takes out her crystal and writes a few quick words.
Everyone's crystal buzz and they see the message she has just written in the KZZT group
"Hey, wouldn't this the perfect moment for Zim to sing us a song? So we don't actually have to hear it!? Heheh Joking!! Come on, are we ready or what?"
... after they read it, Zahira just grins at them and motions Kuro, Zim and Trick to follow Zephyro inside.
Before entering, she puts the cotton away for a second because she hasn't put it quite right and it's not confortable in her ears. As she does that, she hears a faint yelling in the warehouse. Also, it seems to her that the song is coming to an end. Perhaps the noise will finish for good in a few moments? She puts the cotton in her ears anyway, just in case and sends another message to the group:
"Guys, I've heard faint yelling. Also, I believe the music is coming to an end. If you prefer we can keep the cotton for a moment just in case. But we may be lucky and stop needing it for good in a few moments?"
After Zim nods to him, and allows Zahira to help him with the cotton. The young elf feels more confident about heading in. Whatever this spell is, it doesn't seem to have an effect that lasts as long as that laughter spell. It may have emotionally affected his friends, but it doesn't seem to have rendered them completely helpless.
Zephyro glances at his crystal after seeing Zahira text, then smiles at her and nods. After reading the second message, he pauses for a moment, debating on whether or not to use the cotton in case a change of song sparks another spell. Inevitably, he still decides against it. If he uses the cotton, his entire party would be deaf and that does not sound like a good thing to him.
Putting his crystal away, he motions for the others to follow him. Quietly passing through the door, he heads towards the source of the yelling.
Why was he feeling so angry? It wasn't like anger was something he never felt or anything. It was just never irrational like it was right now. He was trying to calm down. This was frustrating him. Didn't really make much sense to him. He had been happy to just agree with what Zim was doing. Why not just bust in and stop whatever this awful sound was. It didn't seem that Zim trying to break into the door worked though. Actually it looked like he might have hurt himself. Well that didn't do them any good did it? He had noticed that Zahira had left and he glanced after her wondering what she might have been up to.
When she came back he noticed that she had cotton. He looked at it curiously and watched as she gestured what to do with it. His eyes brightened slightly. Oh! Maybe that would help with this awful sound. He took it and placed it in his ears hoping for it to help block out the noise. Things would be harder to hear, but maybe it would stop his ears from ringing from this music. This couldn't actually be music could it?
At the feel of his crystal vibrating he took a look at it. He tilted his head slightly at first as it took a moment to dawn on him what exactly she was saying. He suddenly giggled lightly. The feeling of anger and irritation suddenly seemed to fade off. Oh thank goodness.
He was definitely glad to be of his own mind now. His emotions were his own again. Good. He looked ahead. At least now he would be able to focus on this with a better attitude.

- Yes, I can!! - Zahira responds to Zephyro - Hey, seeing that no one seems to have heard Zim hitting the door, let me go to Flurry's and ask him for some cotton to put it in out ears.

Stone?

Zim can get a second con save for his ears to start restoring their healing (with the cotton and second wind I'd say that's fair)
And he can get another wisdom save

(Owlbear rodeo isn't working for me right now.)
