(OOC: lol, yeah. If Zahira had gone with Zephiro, Kuro would have followed just because there isn't anything else to do. But since she didn't he's just standing there for now.)
Kuro shrugs as Zahira say's she'll be back in a couple minutes, he really couldn't care less if she just checked her crystal right there. But if she thought that would come off as rude, then he won't say anything. He wouldn't know to be honest. It wasn't as if he had anyone to message anyways...unless his parents counted. "Thanks," he says dully when she points out her number. He takes a minute to write her name in. He isn't sure if he's spelled it correctly, but decides his chances are pretty high in that regard so he doesn't ask to confirm.
When the genasi moves away, Kuro takes a seat again and proceeds to add Zephiro's name to the phone. Since Zim's number isn't on it yet, he is able to just pick out the second number as Zephiro's. Once that's done, he lets out a huff before glancing in the directions his new group members had gone. He can't leave the gym without them can he? So he'll just wait for them to come back.
When Zahira returns, she finds him with his notebook out again. Though this time he's quick to shut it before anyone can go looking over his shoulder.
Zahira sits next to Kuro, waiting for the rest to come back. She wonders if now that there are a few less persons he might feel a little more comfortable. So she dares ask:
- Hey, are you...ok? I mean, you don't seem to be having quite a good time. You don't need to talk right now - she quickly adds - But now we are a team, and that means that we will have our backs! So...if you ever need help, you know, just say so, ok?
She smiles lightly.
- By the way, do you draw? I'd love to draw, but I'm not any good haha But at least I'm good at making perfectly straight lines using a ruler for the blueprints my uncle and I work with!

Kuro blinks, a little surprised when the genasi decides to sit down next to him... but that surprise wears off quickly when he reminds himself that they are supposed to be getting to know each other. That was the assignment for the day wasn't it? Great.
He wasn't expecting...such a straightforward question though. What is he supposed to say to that? That this is the last place he wants to be. That his father forced him to go to this stupid school even though he doesn't have the desire or the strength to be an adventurer? He doesn't even know this girl.
As the thoughts go through his head, his face remains utterly blank. Finally he looks up and says, "...Yeah...thanks." He turns his gaze back to the notebook, and to answer her second question he says, "...Kind of."
He doesn't look necessarily uncomfortable, and his tone remains the same as it did when he'd first spoken to them.
Zephyro nods to each of Zim's companions as he introduces them, "Pleasure to make your acquaintances." Once he's finished typing the half-elf's contacts into his crystal, he adds him to the group chat, hands Zim's crystal back, then puts his own away. He thinks for a moment, "Ethan Walker? I don't believe I have. Why?"
History check to see if he knows anything about the other two student's based on their last names: 7
As he stands there, he looks over the other boy's weapons, specifically Aros's, "That's an interesting choice of gear! I'd never heard of using a rapier with a shield before. How does it affect your fighting style? You're a bard right, like Zim here? Is that a common practice for bards?" Stopping himself from asking more questions, he grins, "Heh, sorry I may look like a scholar, and truth be told I am, but I do love learning about martial arts, even the kinds I don't practice."
"Well, I sure don't know what's going on in his head but at least he hasn't given me a harsh answer. That's a good starting point, I guess".
She then feels her Crystal vibrate:
- And there we have Zim! Look, he's joined the Crystal group - Zahira actually shows him her Crystal screen, as if he couldn't check it in his own. But she does anyway.
- So...I wonder...could I take a look at your drawings while we wait?
Kuro blinks as she shows him her screen...he wasn't really sure why she was showing him her screen since his crystal buzzed as well, but maybe she felt like it was necessary. After a moment, he pulls his own crystal out and matches the number to the name.
He pauses a moment when she asks if she can see his 'drawings'... if he hadn't been in the process of putting away his phone, he might have said 'no' reflexively. Now, he hesitates. There are really only three sketches in the notebook...as the notebook was supposed to be for his, well, class notes. None of them were anything special...and she likely won't understand what was going through his head when he put them on paper... sometimes he doesn't even understand why he draws things. He also doesn't consider himself an artist, as he really only draws when there is literally nothing else to do.
Finally, he shrugs. Sighing, he hands her the notebook. "I guess." Maybe it will leave her confused enough that she won't ask anymore personal questions...
The first picture is the one he drew of the group of cats standing around a sandwich. They appear to be standing outside a window, though there isn't much of a background. The two cats directly below the window are the one with the sword and the older looking one with long whiskers. The elderly cat is holding a teacup and is hissing at the one with the belt and sword. The rest of the cats don't have any defining features, but are all either sniffing at the sandwich or laying sitting idly.
The second picture is of a bunch of chickens. Some of them are running around in pairs, others are standing and squawking at each other in groups of various numbers. The background is difficult to make out, but they appear to be in a large room.
The last drawing, the one he'd been working on while she was gone, is unfinished. Though it looks like it would eventually have become a herd of horses or something. One of the horses has some unfinished stripes.
All of the drawings are very sketchy, and in a sort of rough cartoony style.
Zahira, as unsure as she was about how this was going to turn out, looks surprised for a bit when Kuro agrees to show her the notebook, but that expression turns quickly into an appreciative one.
She takes the notebook carefully and begins going through the drawings, a bright smile appearing in her face when she looks at the first of them:
- Haha, oh this is cute! I love how you've drawn the cats, specially the one with the sword and this one with a cup. Reminds me of the Principal! Speaking of whom, what a curious guy. I had imagined he would be more severe and didn't expect him first to appear with a tea cup, and then throwing it. I gotta say I laughed a little bit too hard when he did that. I hope this cat's tea tastes better than Forthright's. Or perhaps it is as bad as his and that's why the cat is hissing!
Then she turns to the one with the chickens and says:
- Aww, chickens....! Wait. Are this supposed to be us in this room? Some in pairs, some in larger groups... You do have an imagination!
Regarding the last drawings, she wonders:
- Are these going to be zebras?
She then returns the notebook to Kuro, not wanting to cling to it excessively and continues:
- You do like animals, huh? I think you're good! I hope I can see more of these in the future - she stays silent for a few seconds, thinking to herself, before continuing - The cat with the teacup...definitely that's my favorite. I'd name him Mr. Forthcat, haha - she laughs at her own stupid joke.
- I think we should probably join Zephyro and Zim. Shall we go?
(OOC: From what Aroc said at post #81 I guess he'll follow, so I imagine we'll arrive at some point of Zim/Zeph's conversation. Is this right? If that's ok with Aroc of course!)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Zim/Zephyro
Sakimoto had offered Zephyro a handshake as well, before reaching into his pocket to offer both of them a piece of paper. It appeared to be flat like some sort of card? It wasn't laminated but with a number on it, it had said "Sakimoto Sato junior detective" he had offered the both of them a slight grin. His air of authority had evaporated with that somewhat silly expression as Aros let out a light sigh before smiling once more.
"You don't have have to give those cards to everybody Sakimoto.."
"If you two ever see anything odd or suspicious feel free to shoot me a message. It's a pleasure to meet you Zephyro."
Aro's had offered a light bow before turning back to Zim with a brimming smile and a light chuckle to his question about bard training.
"Yes I'm a senior actually, a valor bard. I'm sure it's Roger you want advice with huh? I know he seems a bit.. Well odd. However he never really has gone as far as some rumor's say. Sure he's a flirt as some bards are. However, I've known a few students that had tried sleeping with him and he's supposedly always at least set that boundary. Though with many elves and other races I wonder the laws are here in Crystal Meadows."
"There's a chart, describing each race's age and such. For example an 80 year old elf and a 17 year old human are about the same age in some ways. Also Leonin mature really fast as do Satyr's. A 14 year old Leonin is basically grown."
"Ahh.. I see? Hmm, interesting."
As Zephyro thinks upon the name's he isn't really able to come up with much on either of them nor Ethan Walker. Sakimoto turns to Zephyro with a somewhat concerned look.
"Just.. Be careful if you see him, he's a tiefling with a leather jacket and.. A strange way of speaking. He may end up being more dangerous than just some harmless punk. I'm not sure if you've heard but a few students between the year have gone missing so.. Just be careful while you're out and about."
Aro's had looked to Zephyro with a light smile upon all the questions hurled toward his direction.
"My fighting style huh? I suppose I use the shield to deflect attacks, rather than block them head on with raw muscle. A rapier and a shield is a strange combo, however because the shield is for deflecting it's actually rather light. As for other bards no using a shield isn't a common practice but as a valor bard however yes. This way I can hold my own on the front lines if I have too. Heh, don't worry it's good to ask questions around here, honestly knowledge at Rising Dawn only comes to those who are curious and seek it. It doesn't find the students that sit aimlessly at their desk that applies even for our wizard and artificer friends believe it or not."
Kuro/Zahira
Zahira's phone had buzzed back, and she had managed to make it back toward Zim and Zephyro Sakimoto and Aro's had looked over. Sakimoto's hands in his jacket as Aro's offered a friendly smile.
"Ahh more people? I'm not used to so much interaction with people my own age. The name is Sakimoto Sato a pleasure."
He offers Kuro and Zahira both a firm handshake but a small smile as Aro's the horned youth waved toward them.
"Yo, names Aros Featherblade"
Almost as if Kuro's worst nightmares came to fruition this large group standing in the gym would grow larger still. Arthur who had been talking to the vice principal came running over to Zahira and Zephyro's waving energetically at the both of them.
"Hey! So I wanted to tell you guys something! I found out from Himari you two wanted us to join you're party? I think she was texting Zephyro's.. At first I was conflicted cause Evie and Nari need a party too but I asked the vice principal what I could do. Apparently there is a program for adventurer's to take "Hirelings" he said. It was.. Confusing but basically we can help you're party whenever we have free time and whenever you ask! While still joining Evie and Nari's party! That leave's you're slots open, we just can't help you adventure if you already have six people or it'll hurt everyone's grade? Still, that way we can hang out sometimes! Himari is really excited!"
He looks to Zahira with a wide toothy grin a childish gleam in his emerald green eyes. Sakimoto had looked at Arthur and toward all the newcomers here.
(I'll do one insight roll against everyone otherwise a million rolls lol. He already did one on Zim earlier so this roll won't be against Zim.)

(Deception Below to hide he is looking at the others)

It appeared the gym was now completely cleared out, the white haired male with glasses was now far aside the gym with Himari and the girl with angelic wings. The girl with angelic wings had looked to Kuro for a moment wrinkling her nose before smiling. It appeared now that everybody had found the places they were meant to, though the school was open to tour it appeared all the students planned on hitting the town with their party instead. The vice principal Giovanni Skywing had begun to leave the Gym himself now at this point. Sakimoto had looked at the other's offering a humble bow.
"I am afraid I have to make my exit here, I've got some important work to do. I wish you all luck this year."
"Well.. I gotta watch Sakimoto's back. We are a party after all, like he's already said I hope you all have a good year!"
OOC I'll probably respond to the text for Zahira in PM otherwise my post would probably be flooded huge xD
However I should add that if anyone wants to lean over and peak at someone's text (I'd call that a deception check to hide you are doing it.) Or a perception check to see it if you don't care it is hidden. You could do so to other players and NPC's. Sure it'd be rude but if you ever felt you wanted to know more etc.
Than I'd send the text to that player who peeked/saw as well ^^
Kuro doesn't give much of a reaction to Zahira's exclamations. Externally, his demeanor doesn't change. Internally he's a little surprised at her interpretations of the silly sketches. ...weird.
When she hands him the notebook, he puts it back into his backpack, "Animals are simple." He says plainly, before offering a shrug. He draws what he sees and hears, sometimes the sketches don't make sense until he goes back and looks at them. Of course, most of the time they just accumulate somewhere until he eventually throws them out. These ones will likely stay in the notebook until the end of the school year only to be thrown out with the notes...assuming he bothers to take notes in the first place. ...He pauses for a moment. Then pulls the notebook out again and opens it to the first page. He can't exactly use the paper now that its covered in scribbles, so if Zahira likes it...well...
He tears the page out of the notebook, getting a little irritated when it doesn't tear along the dotted line like it was supposed to, leaving some fringe inside the spiral binding. So annoying, he'll have to pull that out later. He stares at the sloppy drawing for a moment, then offers it to Zahira. "Here." He hesitates, why on earth would she want this stupid drawing? On top of that, why was he bothering to give it to her? What if she told someone about it? What if she showed it to someone? For a moment, it looks as if he might pull the page back and crumble it up, but instead he says, "Just...don't show it to anyone. Please." He adds the last word as if it wasn't something he'd usually bother to say.
If she takes it, Kuro diverts his eyes and shoves the notebook back into his backpack once again. He doesn't really want to go join up with the other two, especially since they look like they are talking to some of the older students. Maybe it would be better to just sit here and wait for them to come back? Of course, with his luck Zahira will decide to stay here with him if he says he's not going. And now he really doesn't want to listen to her questions anymore. So, he'll just go along with her but hang back a little so he isn't pulled into the conversation. He offers another shrug, and then follows her over to where Zim and Zephiro are talking.
(Lol, I'm assuming she's probably going to take the drawing, but if she doesn't, then Kuro shoves the drawing into his backpack, which of course causes it to crumple a little. It will likely end up at the bottom of the pack folded up a gazillion times and smashed into a flat origami want-to-be.)
(looks like we were writing at the same time lol. So I'll add a little :D)
Kuro doesn't accept the handshake...instead opting to stand a few paces away from these older students and keeping his hands stuffed deeply into his pockets. When Arthur shows up, Kuro raises an eyebrow...this is who they wanted on their team? Well...he looks like a paladin so that would be helpful, but... He's such a loudmouth. He sighs internally, rolling his eyes a bit. Whatever, it doesn't really matter who joins and who doesn't. He'll probably die either way.
Deception: 21
Perception (if necessary to notice that the guy is studying them): 15
Kuro, in spite of noticing the angel-winged girl's look, maintains a blank and uncaring expression.
Insight (to see if he can determine what that look was about): 11
He remains standing a few paces away, watching and waiting for his new companions to finally leave this gym.
Zephyro takes Sakimoto's card looks it over then puts it in his pocket with his crystal. Junior detective eh? He thinks to himself as he smiles back at the boy. However, his smile fades slightly as he mentions explains that this Ethan person could be dangerous and that there have been disappearances. He's never been one to judge people based off another person's word, but he will keep this encounter in mind if he ever does come across this tiefling. "Disappearances? I had no idea."His bow furrows, did his parent's know about this?
When Aros answers his question the young elf's smile returns. "That is interesting. And personally that makes a lot more sense then trying to just block with brute strength, those tactics seem like a waste of energy to me. Haha, Well, I'm glad people are actually willing to answer my questions here." He rubs the back of his neck, "I'm used to having to dig for any information regarding anything of that nature, which is very annoying as I would think it would benefit everyone to know a bit about each person's fighting style. While knowing your opponent's strengths and weaknesses gives you and advantage over them, knowing your team's individual techniques also pushes the odds in your favor."Resting his thumbs in his pockets he just now realizes that he never told this newer party members what he is studying. They likely assume he's a wizard based on his appearance. Ah well, at this point it would be odd for him to just spout out that he's studying to be a monk. If they think he's a wizard, then so be it. That's nothing new to him.
Noticing Zahira and Kuro make their way over, Zephyro realizes that he forgot to text his name on the group chat. Quickly pulling out his crystal, he types his full name onto the chat then glances at Kuro. "There, now you and Zim have my contact."
Zephyro's turns when Arthur comes rushing over. Hirelings? That's interesting. Well, now he doesn't have to worry about being in the same party as the paladin... "Oh, I sure hope Twilight didn't tell him what I told her. I should be the one to say something about that. She had to at least told him we know each other. Unless he just doesn't question why she had my number."As he thinks this, he grins back at Arthur and replies, "That actually makes sense! Which also means if your party needs help, then we should be able to do the same for you right? Either way that's great!"
Perception to see if he notices Sakimoto looking at him: 5
(Either way Zephyro won't contest that, he has nothing to hide.)
- Oh, not so simple! I suppose it depends on what you're doing. My uncle and I once made a mechanical squirrel for my brother Tobias and it was pretty tough. Well, truth is uncle Plash did most of the work and I only helped ... - Zahira is about to explain how they had worked specially hard on the tail joints. The tail alone had almost as many pieces as the toy's torso and arms, because it had to be preeeetty flexible. But in this exact moment Kuro hands ther the cats sketch and she forgets what she was just about to say and takes the paper in not really believing what is happening - Oh ... !
She glances at Kuro for a second, unsure.
- Really? For me?
She looks at the paper again, still surprised, and when she glances back at him she's smiling warmly. Then grabs her backpack, extracts her own notebook and places the sketch inside it carefully.
- I know I could just mend it with magic if anything happened to it, but I prefer if that doesn't happen. And I'll keep it safe at home, so don't you worry ok? My family might see it - as I don't live alone - but I won't show it to any student! Thanks, Kuro. I really appreciate it.
When they reach the group that Zephyro and Zim are talking to she accepts Sakimoto's hand and waves to Aro, and is about to ask Sakimoto if he could be Himari's brother, but gets distracted by her crystal buzzing (could that be Arthur? or uncle's? Or Hima's? Or Tobey's...? Or just spam???) and then even more distracted when Arthur make's his appearance. She manages to say:
- H-hey!! - "No stuttering, Zahira, hells, please!" - Y-yes! - "Caaaaalm down!!" - That's actually a great idea, Arthur, thanks for asking the Principal about it. This way everyone is sorted out in their own party but at the same time we can help each other out and even improve our skills and adaptation capabilities. It's good to introduce changes in the system every once in a while to test our limits. - "Theeere you go, girl. You are still perfectly capable of saying something smart and useful!"
She clears her throat and then asks, looking at all of them and not forgetting to include Kuro, even though he still is a few paces away:
- Sooo... what do we do now, guys? Should we tour the Academy? Or should we hit town? In my opinion we could relax a little, maybe go get an ice cream- at this point she smiles at Arthur inevitably - or something like that. School can wait until tomorrow, can't it?
Zim shrugged at Zephyro's question and just listened as Sakimoto spoke. Upon receiving the card, he glanced at it and put it into his pant pocket. Junior detective, huh? Well, it added some credence to the young man's concern about this Ethan Walker. At least it seemed less likely that the boy just wanted to ruin the name of someone who had looked at his girlfriend the wrong way.
Aros's consolations regarding Roger really didn't put him at ease very much. In fact, the conversation reminded him how he was the one with the hot take here. Generally the whole world seemed to think that underdeveloped minds were no cause for dissuasion from carnality. When the comparison of ages between races was brought up, however, Zim couldn't help himself and interjected, "I never really understood that philosophy. After all, you don't see any 80 year old students here, elf or otherwise, looking to become adventurers." He didn't care if anyone really heard it or not, he just felt it needed to be said.
As Aros was talking, Zim saw his other new companions approach. He grinned at them and moved a little to make room to include them in the conversation. When his crystal buzzed, he took it out to see the group chat with everyone's name in there. Feeling warm from being included he sent a simple, "Hi," with a smile amaji. (Deception 21)
The news the armored boy who Zahira had called Arthur presented seemed interesting to Zim. So the boy and the Himari person he mentioned were supposed to be what, tutors? Shouldn't they see if their group can handle things on their own before seeking out more help? He really had no idea what was going on. Zim's head was spinning a little bit as the others departed. What brought him out of his stupor was Zahira's suggestion. School can wait until....? Ice cream? Zim's eyebrows must have reached his hairline. What really shocked him though was that it was Zahira who suggested the idea. He just imagined that if anyone would have brought up such a thing, it would have been Kuro. Was he going to need to carry this team? Maybe tutor's weren't such a bad idea after all...
"I'm not sure if it matters, but I haven't actually signed up for my classes yet." Not wanting to sound equally as lazy, he eagerly added, "My instructor said it was okay before the assembly! But I don't know if I can let the day end without doing that."
OOC
The deception roll is to peek at Zahira's phone if she pulls it out and looks while were talking. Zim had his phone out and reflexively looks over. The deception is there in case he glances at it and registered what he saw. Zim would nearly never intentionally look like he was gawking over someone's shoulder so also deception. Also, I just kinda wanted to see how this mechanic works.
- Oh! I thought we had all done that! In that case, by all means, let's get you signed up. Do you want us to go with you? It can be our first quest as an adventuring party - she laughs.
(OOC: Aw, sorry! I don't know if I explained it incorrectly, but Zahira hasn't grabbed her crystal in that scene. She just felt its vibration, wondered who might have written to her without checking it and insta-forgot about it when Arthur appeared. Damn that handsome blond paladin! xD)
"Sounds like a fine plan to me." Zephyro replies, "After Zim's signed up, then maybe we can tour the school, and/or the surrounding area. I don't know about you guys, but I'm not exactly familiar with White Haven at all, so I wouldn't mind exploring it a bit. Heh, after all, correct me if I'm wrong, but all we are doing for schoolwork today seems to be signing up for classes then getting to know our party members. So if Zahira want's to go get ice cream, I don't see why not."He looks back at Zim, he'd overheard a bit of the conversation this Roger fellow, and could tell the half-elf didn't seem to be comfortable around him. He'd also heard what Zim said about age, and though he doesn't respond, he has to agree with the half-elf. "Well, what do ya say? Mind if we escort you to your classroom?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Kuro, after handing Zahira the drawing, almost seems even more withdrawn then he'd been before. He isn't sure why giving the picture to the girl had even occurred to him...aside from the fact that if she didn't take the drawing then it would just get thrown out. But...he just hopes she doesn't go around telling everyone that he draws silly pictures of cats to everyone. She says she'll keep it to herself, but he can never be sure.
Regardless, he keeps his hood on through the whole conversation with the two older students. Noticing one of them inspecting him, he returns the favor.
Insight on Sakimoto: 7
His expression doesn't change, and he doesn't really care if the guy notices him looking but he does try to keep it somewhat hidden since it would be such a pain if the guy took issue with him.
Deception: 8
From there he just listens. It doesn't really matter to him what they do as long as it doesn't mean a long trek on foot, which of course he won't voice to anyone. They'll find out how useless he is soon enough.
With his new companion's suggestion still hanging in the air, the idea of a group sounded simply grand all of a sudden. It wasn't as if Zim couldn't handle this teacher on his own, it was just comforting to knowing he wasn't required to face all of his future trials alone. The idea of ice cream was beginning to sound like a lovely idea after all. "If you all truly don't mind, I would really appreciate it!" Perhaps Roger wouldn't even be in the room. If that proved to be the case, and the clipboard was accessible, they might not even need to deal with the flirty half elf right now. "I'm game for whatever afterwards!"

OOC
I'll probably respond to the text for Zahira in PM otherwise my post would probably be flooded huge xD
However I should add that if anyone wants to lean over and peak at someone's text (I'd call that a deception check to hide you are doing it.)
Or a perception check to see it if you don't care it is hidden. You could do so to other players and NPC's. Sure it'd be rude but if you ever felt you wanted to know more etc.
Than I'd send the text to that player who peeked/saw as well ^^
Again if I forgot anything let me know ^~^
Kuro doesn't give much of a reaction to Zahira's exclamations.
I had no idea." His bow furrows, did his parent's know about this?
When Aros answers his question the young elf's smile returns. "That is interesting. And personally that makes a lot more sense then trying to just block with brute strength, those tactics seem like a waste of energy to me. Haha, Well, I'm glad people are actually willing to answer my questions here." He rubs the back of his neck, "I'm used to having to dig for any information regarding anything of that nature, which is very annoying as I would think it would benefit everyone to know a bit about each person's fighting style. While knowing your opponent's strengths and weaknesses gives you and advantage over them, knowing your team's individual techniques also pushes the odds in your favor." Resting his thumbs in his pockets he just now realizes that he never told this newer party members what he is studying.
Unless he just doesn't question why she had my number." As he thinks this, he grins back at Arthur and replies, "That actually makes sense!
In my opinion we could relax a little, maybe go get an ice cream - at this point she smiles at Arthur inevitably - or something like that.

So if Zahira want's to go get ice cream, I don't see why not." He looks back at Zim, he'd overheard a bit of the conversation this Roger fellow, and could tell the half-elf didn't seem to be comfortable around him. He'd also heard what Zim said about age, and though he doesn't respond, he has to agree with the half-elf. "Well, what do ya say? Mind if we escort you to your classroom?"
