"Well, I don't think we're going to be able to identify who these poor souls were. Maybe our employer will know about the one that appears to be conjoined twins, you don't see them around too often. In the meantime this dagger looks like it may be worth keeping. It's not really my style of weapon, but if any of you could use it then I suggest you take it. Otherwise let's see if we can sell it and share the profits."

Seeing that it's tidier, Jacob would likely look further into it (assuming he didn't notice the silhouette move),

"Someone give me a hand over here, this nest is different..."

(if it makes sense/you allow it, another investigation roll: 14 and a perception roll: 20)

(Natasha gets Jacob's attention with a wave of her hand and a sharp yet low, "Hey!" while running over.)

"Something's there... and it's not a rat." 

(She tries to stealthily make her way to the nest to get a better view.)

Stealth: 13

"I'll take the dagger, Stone. Now let's see what our friends have found." Penelope will walk over to the other two and if they need help she will assist.

Stone hands the dagger to Penelope and follows the rest of the gang towards the nest. 

Jacob: You look ready to investigate this nest when you notice Natasha waving to you. You listen to her warning before taking any action.

Natasha: 

 You quietly sneak around the side of the nest and peer through a small gap in the rumble forming the nest. You find yourself standing face to face with a humanoid rat about the size of a halfling. 

It immediately hisses and bares it’s oversized rodent teeth at you.

Penelope and Stone: You watch as Natasha sneaks around the nest. You lose sight of her, but shortly after you hear a loud hissing sound.

What do you want to do?

(Natasha recoils in terror, lets out a little scream and takes evasive action to get the hell away, trying to get behind any of her compatriots.)

OOC: I'm assuming this would be like a Disengage action I have as a Rogue. Do I have to roll for it?

Stone runs towards Natasha to see what startled her.

Penelope pauses where she is. She will ready herself to throw a firebolt at the first visual sign of a threat.

(OOC: no roll needed, you got this.)

Natasha: You quickly back away from the snarling rat face and duck behind Stone, who is rushing to your aid.

Stone: You run up to a startled look Natasha and she immediately puts you between her and whatever is in the nest. Penelope backs up to make room for Natasha.

Stone makes sure his sword and shield are close to hand but does not brandish them. Carefully and calmly he approaches the large nest.

"Hello there. Is anybody home. We're looking for Creel. We have some questions for him. We don't want any trouble."

Make a persuasion or deception check, based on whether you ask mean what you say.

Stone's Persuasion = 5

You hear a loud hiss from behind the rubble pile that is the nest wall and you hear the click of a crossbow loading.

Everyone roll initiative.
