Penelope will look around to see if there has been any recent activity near the doors(footprints, scratching,etc.). Shes also looking around for any writing or symbols on the doors.
You all check out the entrance to the Hall of Everforge, eager to find any traps or clues to what awaits you within.
Penelope: You notice that the dirt around the entrance has been disturbed, but you can't make out any details about who or how many have disturbed it. You see no symbols on the doors or around the entrance.
Stone and Natasha: You two find no traps surrounding the entrance.
Jacob: After you're finished laughing to yourself about the rest of your party doing their best Scooby Gang imitation, you check the entrance out yourself. You notice that the footprints indicate multiple humanoids, and some not so humanoids. You also see, based on the smoothed out dirt on the ground directly in front of the entrance, that the doors have been opened and closed relatively recently. You find no indications of traps however.
"It looks like something was here before us, but I'm not sure what.Oh!" Penelope mentions to the group before she perks up a bit. She waves the other over to her and says quietly.
"Before I forget friends, I have learned of a new spell that might help out if one of us wants to sneak around in here. It will help keep one of us hidden from sight, provided they don't go rushing into combat."
"Mmm..." Jacob exhales in agreement, "...Plenty of tracks and recently."
He walks right up to the doors (are they easily opened or does there seem to be a trick to it?) ... "I'd hate for you to burn through a valuable resource, Penelope, if it turns out there's nothing immediately behind this door. And even if there is something or someone waiting there, being invisible or untrackable won't stop anyone in there from noticing the door itself opening. I say we take a peek first. Objections?"
Stone nods at Jacob, "Yes. That makes sense. Perhaps we should open the door and see if there is anybody guarding it on the other side before we invest too much in our stealth." Stone grins and moves around in his splint armor, causing it to make a little tinkling sound. "If we do decide to send in a scout, I fear that my fine new armor would prevent me from being very effective in that role."
"While you ladies discuss the possibilities of invisible stealth I am just going to open the door a little and peak inside and see if anybody is guarding it on the other side."
With that Stone carefully opens the door a tiny bit to peak inside.
Penelope smiles at Natasha, excited to share her knowledge of spell craft. "Well it's very simple you see, first I will say a few words, preform the appropriate gestures, and then offer up the components for this spell. Then I shall simply touch the person I wish to cast the spell on and -poof- they shall vanish from sight. You will still be there, mind you, but you will be completely invisible to the naked eye. It will last only an hour and will require my concentration to keep the spell up, so I must be wary of casting other spells, but I am very confident in my ability so you shouldn't worry about that. The only thing the person must be careful of is attacking other creatures, any form of violence or spell casting will, unfortunately, cancel out the spells effect and cause it to end." Penelope chatters to her, waving her hands around in an attempt to to show how the spell shall work.
Stone: While Penelope is enthusiastically explaining her spell, you slowly crack the door open and see:
Large, intricate marble sculptures depicting weapons, shields, and armor line the walls of this great hall. Six stone doors stand among the statuary. At the end of the long hall is a large set of double doors, decorated with a carving that resembles dwarves working at a forge. Thick dust covers the area, and obvious tracks are evidence of heavy traffic of human-sized boots. Smaller reptilian tracks are also visible.
Stone closes the door and turns to his companions. "So, the good news is that there is nobody gaurding the other side of the door. The bad news is that on the other side is a hallway with more doors, so sending somebody invisible in to scout out the interior probably won't work. Also, it appears that there have been many humanoid and reptilian people traveling in there, so there's a good chance there are still people somewhere in there. I say we all go inside and see if we can find more clues in the entryway." Stone looks at his companions in turn. "Any thoughts?"
"Well I never even thought of that, Ms. Natasha." Stone says appreciatively. "Due to my intense faith in order and justice I have developed the ability to detect good and evil within a short distance of myself, about 60 lengths of one of Jacob's feet. But it takes a lot out of me spiritually and I can only do it once before I need to renew my sense of spirit with a deep sleep. Do you think I should use it now? If I stand right next to the door, my sense should be able to cover about half of the hallway."
"Maybe, but would statues be considered evil? Or good? I'd hate for you to waste your ability, Stone. You said there were signs of people being here before right? Did the statues show any sign of movement?" Penelope questions the large man.
"I can't detect magic, but I do have the ability to summon a spiritual hand. I can see if I can get it to trigger anything." Penelope offers up to the others.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Sorry, maybe I was overthinking things. I guess it can't be too bad if others already went thru. I still think I should go first, I've seen my share of traps and such and my tools can help me disarm them."
(Natasha enters the door and starts checking for any signs of traps, pressure plates, etc.)
Jacob looks down at his feet, shuffles a little and tilts one up. Shrugs. Prepares to follow the others in while taking one more glance around the exterior for anything funny or out of place. As he looks around though, a gnat flies into his eye and he spends a few moments tearing up and pulling at his eyelid to get it out...
4 (-1 for Investigation, or +2 for Perception, at the DM's preference)
You all enter the Everforge cautiously, scanning the hall for traps. Nothing stirs within this hallway, it feels more like a tomb than a forge.
Natasha and Jacob: Besides the thick dust disturbed by human and reptilian foot prints, nothing sticks out to you.
Stone: You notice a specific pattern in the foot prints, and you see that four tiles look like they've been taken out and then put back into place. Those tiles look like the perfect place for the trigger for some traps.
"Stop right there." Stone says as he blocks Natasha who is holding back Jacob. "Let me check this place out a bit."
Stone checks the floor in front of the door for traps as well as the area directly over the door.
