Akkron takes the pipe and lights it with Prestidigitation. He "breathes" in a the smoke, which mingles with the shadowy mists inside his ribcage.
"My thanks, good sir," Akkron says, taking a seat on whatever chair or stool is available.
He considers the baron's words. So, the man is a spellcaster with patronage of the Matron of Ravens... curious. Akkron cannot help but be a bit impressed by the man's ballsiness to make dealings with such beings on a regular enough basis that a lich no longer scares him.
"I think I may have also met your patron," Akkron says thoughtfully. "It would have been nice if she could have given me a little bit more information before she flew off... I suppose that is neither here nor there, though. But your words have given me some idea of what we're dealing with... if monsters as dangerous and powerful as you describe are wandering this realm it would probably be in our best interests to find or create a more secure stronghold. It also sounds as if at least some of these creatures are powerful beings of the undead variety... which may be to our advantage, as I could potentially bring such a creature under my sway."
"Wait." Dabbert says, rubbing his forehead with the heel of his hand. "Wait, help me uh...understand this. Someone correct me if I'm wrong."
He looks at everyone in the room as he speaks. Slip. Lorlin. Akkron. Baron Evermore. He wants to be clear when he says what he says next.
"So this place," He gestures around with his hand, but he's clearly indicating more than the Baron's strange abode. "This isn't my home. It isn't the home of anyone here? This is some sort of limbo from...from what? You say an attack that you fled and everything just...crashed together? So is this a new place? Something created from that cataclysm? Or something that already existed? Or maybe you don't know. The blights? Giants? They're here? Did they come through with you? What threats are here? What have you seen?"
Dab stops abruptly. He holds his hand up, makes a stop motion, seeming like he's forcing himself to stop instead of directing it at anyone else. His hand clenches into a fist and he lowers it to his side.
"Belay your worries, honorable warrior. My recovery took much longer than I am proud to admit. Take as much time as you need." He motions Dabbert to his wine rack. "As for some of your questions, the giants and blights I fought were new. This estate existed in both the material plane Shadowfell - they were from neither. You'll see out there this world is a new one, or at least one I've never scene before. As to what came first - the monsters or the change in scenery - I don't know what came first. Mayhaps the two are connected in this limbo. I'd like to think this is as a limbo; in limbo you have the hope of escape.
Putting on a brave face, Baron Evermore and his ravenMisty-Step out of their hole and up the broken staircase, peering out through a broken window. "The rest of your questions were answered by the Litch. I was able to fortify this small stronghold by myself. Perhaps other parts of my estate could be uncovered with fewer monsters and more magic. As you can see now, my forces are split." Magicflies from his fingers. A Spiritual Weapon in the form of a spinning blade flies out of sight. Moments later a muffled scream is heard and light tremors shake dust from the rafters.
Akkron takes a few more puffs from the pipe, before reluctantly snuffing it out and tucking it away.
"Well then," the lich says as their host slays some beast in the distance with the Spiritual Weapon. "Perhaps it would be in our best interests to plan our next move... I for one think we should start by clearing the immediate surroundings to the best of our ability, particularly any buildings, of the creatures that our host has described. Though if we would prefer to send out a scout first to see what we're dealing with, I could summon a familiar to look around before we venture forth."

"Very well, it will take me about an hour to call forth the familiar spirit,"Akkron says.
He pulls out a brass brazier from his bag and begins the preparations to summon a familiar spirit, which will take the form of a Spider (creature type will be Fey) when he is finished.
Your tiny fey spider pops into existence and scurries around confusedly until the baron’s raven caws. The two meet and seem to be have a conversation and after a beat the spider turns back to you and awaits instructions.
"I'm going to need you to scout one of the nearby buildings for us,"Akkron tells the spider. "Once you have determined if any dangerous creatures are there, how many of them there are, and, if possible, exactly what they are, return to me and report your findings."
Dabbert rolls his shoulders and neck, shaking the feeling back into his limbs.
"Ah, clearing buildings." He says as he continues to shake the feeling into his limbs and stretch his limbs. "Now that is something I can uh...understand. For the record, I'm relatively good at scouting, if my services should be needed. As long as my damn armor doesn't rattle anyway..."
Looking out the windows you see a garish brown desert pockmarked with dead trees and jagged rocks. Purple mountains loom in the far distance looking more necrotic than majestic. They’re the only feature that distinguishes the ground from the beige sky. A dried riverbed 100ft from the tower snakes its way to the remnants of a city about a quarter of a mile away.
To those that look close enough the remnants of various creatures increase in frequency closer to the overgrown chapel. The spiritual weapon blade carves a deeper channel through a waterless moat. The corpse of a bugbear lies nearby - likely from the the barron's earlier attack.
Akkron, your spider makes it to the dried riverbed, passing a bisected bugbear. Looks like he was using the channel for cover. A few rocks around the edge are half-buried in the sand and the riverbed itself is punctuated with cobwebs and small bones (maybe fish?) It varies in depth, (the average being 15ft). Your spider does that spider thing where they feel for movement further down the the webs. No movement for now.
Baron Evermore’s eyes glow as his raven familiar escorts the spider from above. "Follow that dry riverbed to that destroyed city. The monsters seem to come from and dissapear around the center. Thats the extent of my knowledge. If you can investigate it further that might bring some answers. If it's an actual portal, please come back for me." His speech is mimiced in the raven’s caw.
(Are there any empty buildings in the immediate vicinity of the chapel or are all the buildings in the city?)
"Much appreciated, Baron,"the lich says, prompting his spider to continue further into the city (with orders to pop into its pocket dimension immediately if any monsters take notice of it). "And Dabbert, I suspect that we may need your scouting services as well when we begin clearing out the city. Once we have a general idea what's there, our first order of business should be to set up a base within the city itself so that we don't have to waste time and energy travelling between here and the city for any expeditions, and also to give ourselves a relatively safe fallback point in the event that we find ourselves overwhelmed by whatever is in there... also... we should probably be on the lookout in case there are survivors in there. I think it would be for the best if mine isn't the first face that they see, so it would probably be in our best interest to have the good soldier be at our forefront for that reason as well."

After a while your familiars crawl/fly back and relay their findings to you. (There seemed to be a makeshift rope ladder the baron was using exit from his perch but the spider is small enough slip between cracks in the walls.) Nothing new except that the raven said the bugbear was tasty.

The lich dismisses his familiar into its pocket dimension to keep it safe, ready to be called back in the event that the party needs to check what's on the other side of a door.

None in the imediate vicinity. Just a few skeletal trees
