The bandit pipes up.
That's a pack full of lies. I was just minding my own business when these jerks jumped us on the road. They killed the merchant and his wife I was guarding, stole their money and the magic whistle he had then tied me up and brought me here thinking they could get one over on you too.

“Oh my.” Maz grins. “Listen to the desperation in his voice as he tries to weasel his way out.” he chuckles. “You’re as poor with lies as you are in combat. It’s a wonder you ever made it as a thief and are still alive!” Maz claps his hands in laughter.
"Put it away. This is a civilized town no frontier justice here."
He then uses his spear butt to knock out the bandit.
"That's enough out of you."
The guard lifts up the bandits sleeve and sees the tattoo of the dagger then looks at his partner.
"Theives Guild"
Guard 2: "Great justvwhat we need, guess they are pushing south out of Norend again. Guess the Dukes little stunt is kinda working to our determent."
Guard 1 hands his spear over to his partner then grabs the bandit by the foot and drags his unconscious body away.
Guard 2 hands a coin over to Maz.
"Give this too the Mayor's assistant tomorrow it's worth a few coin to turn in a Guild member. Good job"
With that he waves you away.
I think yall said you wanted to do the festival next. There is three main areas. Vendors, the stage/seating area and a games area. What do you want to do?
(Check out the vendors next? Maybe something more for tomorrow but Marley would be interested in getting studded leather armour if that's available in this town)
"Well...I think we all could use a drink," Marley says with a sigh. "I'll buy a round."
You also see a sign that says "I CAN MAKE ANYTHING GIVEN TIME AND MONEY"
Continuing to the ale booth you get some drinks and head to the table.
DM: everyone remove 1 sliver that will cover all drinks for rhe evening.
Up on stage a bard finishes his set and a rougeishly hamsome gentleman walks on stage.
"Hello all! I am Zackary Oscar Richard Rodreiguez Ortagus water dancer of some renowned. Tonight I will amaze you with my cat like reflexes and serpent like speed but first I need a volunteer"
He scans the crowd before his eyes settle on Marley. Ah yes what better way to display my graceful skill then versus one of the Tabaxi
The crowd starts clapping as you feel compelled to go up on stage.
Dm: Marley give me 3 attack rolls and a performance check.
(I might be tempted for the arm wrestling and beer drinking)
Crunchface is following suit, drinking what seems like far to much but it hasn’t affected him quite yet…he cheers Marley on as Marley steps onto the stage.

Marley reluctantly takes the stage but decides to make the most of the situation. He gives the crowd an exaggerated bow, then takes a defensive stance.
Zackary: thank you thank. Ok this will be a simple sparing match to showcase our skills.
He draws a wooden sword and tosses you one. He spins his sword around in a flashy manner. He lunges in and backs away, dancing around a bit.
Ok ok let's begin shall we.
First round He rolled a 13.
He lunged in very sloppy and you easly knock his sword aside and stab him in the side. Anger flashes across his face and he come at you again. This time there is no hesitation. He faints lunges spins and stabs at you 8 times. Over whelmed you trip and fall back. He pins you with the sword at your knock.
He rolled a 26 vs your Nat 1
Zackary: I hope you enjoyed the show folks give my volunteer a hand.
Mayor: No wait a minute the score stands even we must have a winner.
There is a flash of anger across Zackary's face but he quickly hides it.
Zackary: ok let's give them a show. How about first blood.
He rolled a 29 vs your nat 20
Not waiting for your answer he tosses you a sword and comes at you. Catching you flat footed he presses you hard pushing you to the edge of the stage. In a moment of desperation you do a back flip and land on a table. Hopping after you the fight continues on the table. The fight continues for a few moments as you start to get your feet under you and soon your no longer just on the defense.
The fight contest as he jumps into the crowd. You two are darting around the square attacking and perring between people, tents and for a brief moment you to are balancing on separate polls.
Eventually he runs back to the stage as you give Chase.
Marley since you got a Nat 20 how do you defeat this guy?
Conflicting thoughts race through Marley's mind as he finds himself hard pressed in the third match.
After spending the last few days fighting for his life against goblins, kobolds, bandits and even a wyrmling green dragon, it's hard for him to take the mock combat seriously. He's tempted to throw the match as he can see it's much more important to his opponent. Yet he doesn't really know for sure how to do that and make it look convincing.
He steals a glance at the mayor as he pivots for position, and realizes he also has the desire to impress him for the benefit of the party. Just then Zackary's sword cuts by his ear with a near miss and Marley realizes he's thinking too much. He calms his mind, pushing the thoughts away as he focuses on a zen-like fluid motion, parrying fiercely as he moves into position. Suddenly he can sense the momentum swinging in his favour and without hesitation he presses the attack.
Before he even realizes what happened he's knocked Zachary's sword down to the side and stepped in close, the wooden point of his sword squarely placed at his opponents rib cage, just below the heart. "Sorry..." he says awkwardly as the crowd cheers.
Zackary holds up 2 fingers (the common sign of requesting mercy in the dueling areas) he pushes aside the blade and gets up. He lifts your hand and bows.
Zackary: Good show good show give it up for my surpriseing skilled opponent.
He pulls you in for a hug. And whispers into your ear.
Keep training kitty cat next tine we meet your pay for this insult.
The crowd tosses coin onto the stage. He picks up the coin and hands you roughly a thrid.
With a 13 performance you get 43 gold.
Marley you head back to your seat. Reflecting on the fight you feel like you had a break through in your dueling skills, foot work is key.
DM: you will see this guy again next tine you get a subclass level up
As he faces the crowd, it's not the first time Marley has been thankful that it's hard to tell someone is blushing when their face is quite furry.
He looks Zackary in the eye and gives him a slow nod, wondering if the next time he sees him if he'll have to kill him, or be killed. With a mumbled thanks he takes his gold and jumps off the stage to return to his seat, taking a long drink of ale before following the others on to the next destination.

Dnd is so funny.)
Crunchface shouts approval. “I buy second.”

On your way to the food and ale tent you see the black Smith's booth. He has the following items.
Basic weapons, leather armor, hide armor, chain shirt, hide armor and shields.

(If there are any magic vendors that may be able to ID the whistle Maz would look about. Other than that he’s partying!)
“go Marley!!!” Maz cheers through hauls of ale.
Besides the blacksmith there are the following vendors.
Fletcher, a potions booth, an oddities booth (random magic items), the rest of the booths are geared towards farmers.
The games booth has, arm Wrestling (str), dart throw (dex), beer drinking (con)
(I might be tempted for the arm wrestling and beer drinking)

Maz enjoys the show and eyes the oddities both. Perhaps they could tell more about the whistle. He ponders this and decides to go after Marleys show

“Congrats Marley!” Maz declares offering a high five that may miss with the amount of Ale Maz has drank at this point.
“Now, let’s see if someone at the trinket booth knows whats so special about this whistle.” He skips off in the direction of the booth.
Crunchface cheers perhaps a bit too long and loud and slaps Marley on the back, a bit too hard, and staggers off to follow Maz.
(hey guys, if we encounter a succubus or something like that tonight, please restrain Crunch. I don’t want to be taking my next level in Warlock.)
