When a melee attack reduces an undamaged creature to 0 hit points, any excess damage from that attack might carry over to another creature nearby. The attacker targets another creature within reach and, if the original attack roll can hit it, applies any remaining damage to it. If that creature was undamaged and is likewise reduced to 0 hit points, repeat this process, carrying over the remaining damage until there are no valid targets, or until the damage carried over fails to reduce an undamaged creature to 0 hit points.

Marley moves up quickly to within 20 feet of the nearest kobold (Cunning Action to Dash as a bonus action). Pulling a dagger from his belt he throws it at the kobold then moves back to the vicinity of the rest of the party.
The big Kobold passes its save and the posion damage seems less effective then expected.
Kobold 3 uses its sling to attack Marley.
Attack: 15 to hit 6 damage
Marley runs up and tosses his dagger at Kobold 4 killing it. The dagger rips straight through the creature and pokes K5.
Marley back peddles away.
K5 uses its sling to attack Crunchface.
12 to hit 5 damage
Sam rushes in cutting 2 Kobold in half in one slash then spins around and kills a third.
As the sling bullet flies toward his face Crunch throws up his hand and a shimmering white Shield appears, blocking the bullet and raising his AC to 16 until his next turn.
Maziara, being out of magic, stays back and continues to utilize the bow from Marley. He notches an arrow and lets it loose at the closest enemy he can see.
Crunchface holds his staff up and a bit of radiant light strikes down at two of the new kobolds as he casts Sacred Flame. They must make a DC12 Dex save or take 8 radiant damage each.

Marley grunts as the sling bullet hits him hard in the chest. Shaking off the pain he spins around and darts across the cavern floor to Sam's side (Feline Agility) and attacks BK.
Maziara shacks his head in dismay “how many of these creatures can there be down here?”

The arrow looks to be true but Sam in the thick of combat steps back and the arrow bounces off his armor.
