"Heresy. Only void. The Lady of Loss will set you free. She is the way." Now you can all understand what the spirit is saying, through some twist of magic. It seems you will have to destroy this violent apparition in order to set it to rest. No help action on the persuasion check.
The part of the room in which you can see is 25 feet wide by 25 feet long, but the whole width of the room becomes impenetrably dark after that to the west, so you don't know for sure how far into the dark there is to get to the shrine. The specter is within the darkness.
(ooc: I'm assuming Saoirse would know several of the specter's details. Correct me if I'm wrong, Polaris)
"Damned be the King, and damned his Crown. The more I hear about what they've been causing, the more disgusted I am", Saoirsesays as Shatranslates the text from the diary. When the specter emerges only to disappear again into the darkness, she adds "Specters can be tough enemies, specially one that surrounded by darkness. It could drain us to our deaths easily. Be careful", she says to Snakelockand Sha. "If only we could rest and recover ... but with a specter here, and that monster outside, that doesn't seem possible."
With that, the blood hunter unsheathes the rapier and the dagger, which still shine with her double Rite of Dawn. "I understand that you want to free this poor soul, Sha, but I don't think it will let us reach that shrine without a fight. Is there any way that you can counter this darkness with your Goddess' light? If not, then let us hope it focuses its attacks on Lam and me." (Saoirse is resistant to necrotic damage as long as her Rite of Dawn is active.)
Snakelock hisses as diaries are read out, specifically the part regarding King Jeremy. It was interesting to him that the king was described as young though.
When the spectre retreats into the darkness, he starts to follow, but not before speaking into Saoirse mind.
"The young king, interesssting. If you fall behind me too far, I will no longer be able to communicate with you. It only workssss if I can sssee or sssenssse you".
He will make sure to move defensively as he slithers forward, and that Saoirse does not drop out of his blindsight.
The genasi jumps slightly. "Hells! Those... those were a lot of 's' !", she exclaims as her while body tenses. Then, after a few seconds, she seems to calm down again. "Sorry. I seem to be a little jumpy about snakes. But I will try to remain close to you so we don't loose this connection."
Saoirse then meditates about what Hemlock has said about the king's youth. Gōpal had already described Jeremy as being young. What the spectator didn't mention, though, was anything out of the ordinary regarding Tim's condition. "Jeremy and Tim must have come here trying to find a cure for Tim after he became a lich, at some point after their expedition to the Grave Fort along with Fitz. That was twenty years ago, right?"(OOC: is there any mention to dates on the diary?)
Lam follows Saoirse and his snake friend into the darkness, holding his greataxe and attempting to stick close to his friends as far as his senses will allow. He tries to be near enough to them that he can hear or feel them.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
There are no specific dates on the diary. Closer inspection to the first few pages include reference to 'Tim' being frail and suffering age-related symptoms, so you realize he probably wasn't a Lich then.
The darkness is intense, and cold in a way that you can feel in your soul. It reminds you of a twisted version of Sha's twilight sanctuary, with all of the cold calm, but none of the healing light.
Snakelock Can feel that the room is only another 10 feet long, concluding in a glass wall. In the middle is a table with a carved idol placed on it centrally, and long used up candlesticks, as well as bowls containing the residue of rotting blood. You feel the sister approach from the south, getting close enough to attack Lam, who is diagonally as southeast of you but adjacent. The specter lashes out at Lam, for (16 to hit, 7 necrotic; if hit make a sc10 con save or subtract damage from your hp max ), then recedes again into the darkness to the south.
Snakelock slithers south towards where the spectre retreated, hoping to once more be able to see it through his strange new sense. He will not move too far from the others though, not wanting to become isolated, and will make sure he is hissing as he moves so they know which direction he is going.
If he gets into range, he will strike out and try and bite it.
As he passes Sha-Gravis, he will telepathically communicate what he sensed on the table, and the fact the room ends in a glass wall.
Movement: Towards where the spectre retreated, up to 20 feet away from the others Action: 9+4=13, Damage: 5+2=7 [piercing]
Saoirse approaches Hemlock and Sha and tries to cover them from any incoming attack from the Specter. If possible, she readies an attack in case it appears again and attacks the group.
Rolling twice in case it has to be at disadvantage (because of the darkness?) Rapier to hit: 24 and 10. Damage: 9 piercing + 1 radiant + 2 extra radiant (undead target). The weapon is considered magical since it has an active rite.
Yes, disadvantage due to darkness, for everyone except the snake with blindsight.
Hemlock manages to bite at the specter, but it feels cold, and he feels his needle-like teeth pass through the creature. He hurt it slightly, but much less than the vote should have hurt it. The specter is ten feet south of the idol at the moment, which he can communicate to the others.
Sha finds that the idol refuses to move from the shrine, staying quite form in place without additional effort. Make a strength check, or propose another approach.
Saoirse follows Snakelock's guidance, but is unable to land a hit in the oppressive darkness.
The specter lashes out at the snake that managed to bite it. 9 to hit, 9 necrotic; DC 10 con save or reduce max Hap by that amount.

Snakelock attempts to shrug, but even were it not too dark to see, his lack of shoulders made the gesture impossible.

Strength 7 but it seems his strength is flagging…
Does Sha recognize this as an idol dedicated to Shar?
Lam follows the sound of his snake friend’s hissing and takes a blind swing at where he thinks the specter is.
Movement: Roughly towards the specter.
Action: Attack with greataxe. To hit:
2010.Sha-Gravis can definitely tell it's an idol to Shar, but make a religion check for more details.
Lam feels the coldness of the specter as his greataxe in his hands passes just a few inches beside the apparition in the dark.
