Saoirseisn't as understanding as Hemlock and would have Saffronreturn what she has amassed by tricking the people of Village Tree. But she also feels she has said enough and doesn't want to cause any more confrontation, specially for Hemlockand Lam's sakes. And what about the real Cylence? They'll need to explain to him what's happened, or else he won't know he's supposed to have gifts he hasn't even heard about, and this could complicate the already complicated relationship he seems to have with the locals.
Shaking her head, her anger fading into a mix of sadness and dissapointment, she looks at Saffi says:
- Good luck on your path,Saffron. I do hope you can turn away all that resentment that seems to lead your life. There's so many better options you can fill your heart and mind with.
With that, the genasi nods towards the changeling and leaves. She'll go to the Southern lookout and sit there for a moment while gazing at the valley and thinking on what has transpired. When she has collected herself she'll meet the real Cylence, and the rest of the party, as agreed in the West lookout.
"Look, guys. In this world, you're either a mark, or you're a player. These folks are easy marks, and someone's going to show it to them, painfully, sooner or later. Hopefully when they realize they've been duped they'll wise up and be a little more careful. Actually get paid instead of winking and crossing their fingers. You're not better than me because you're not taking advantage of easy pickings. I hope we meet again, gardener, girl scout, choir boy. Maybe the world will have taught you some hard lessons by then, and you'll understand why i needed to do this. Lam, you're still cool. You're still welcome to join me, if you want. And if you can keep up." Saffi/Cylence reaches into her satchel and pulls out a small light pink potion bottle, which she uncorks and gulps down immediately. Then she runs towards the edge of the platform, changing her shape as she does. When she turns back, you recognize Saffron's human face and flaming red hair, with a mischevious grin. "So long, suckers! Maybe double-check who you're giving valuables away to next time!" As the locals react, gasping or shouting or moving towards her, she leaps off the edge of the platform. If you peer over to watch, you will see that she falls slowly, controlled, clearly assisted by some magic effect. She lands and runs off into the woods, heading Southeast.
"Well," the Tall Elf says after a moment, "that was rude. I hope Cylence was right about her." The other locals nod or mumble in agreement, but then quickly go back to talking to each other and giving each other wares, seeming less perturbed than you would expect.
Lam stands there speechless as Saffron talks. Her words are easily the hardest to follow out of all his friends’- he doesn’t know what it means to be a mark, and he hasn’t had to drink kool-aid or sing kumbaya here. Still, he gets a general idea- she doesn’t believe in the Village Tree’s way of life and is proving it by robbing and scamming all of them, acting as an example of the evil she’s… “warning” against. He takes deeper and deeper breaths as he stands there and watches her leave. Some of her words resonate with him in a way he doesn’t like- the world typically isn’t nice, and there has usually been some catch to any happiness Lam has found in his life so far. But why would Saffron make so many enemies on purpose so quickly? Some part of him gets angry at her for not realizing how easy she has it by being able to transform into people who automatically get respect and kindness- and the fact that she would just throw that away. The thing that bothers him most is that he never would have pegged Saffron as someone who would trick them all and run away- but he was clearly wrong about that.
Anyone paying attention to Lam after Saffron and Saoirse both leave notice that he is trembling slightly, and takes a full 30 seconds for him just to stand there and take deep breaths. His hand goes back on his new greataxe, but not in a way where it looks like he might wield it- more like he gets comfort from its presence.
By the time he talks, Saffron is already long gone. He is trying to puzzle out a thought out loud. “She said she took… food and weapons? I have goodberry. And old greataxe.” He still doesn’t have a lot to give in the way of things that Saffron took, but he has no use for his old great axe now that he has one with more value to him, and the goodberry can at least keep someone nourished today. If anyone seems to want either of those things before the real Cyclence gets here, he will give them away.
With open tears Sha turns to go meet the real Cylence, he is nearly overwhelmed with emotion. As he passes he notices Lam, Sha stops he looks up at Lam his eyes wet with tears his pupils dilated from catnip. Sha-gravis reaches up to Lam for a hug, not sure how Lam will react but desparate for reassurance that friendship is real not fake.
While Lam is trying to find a way to give back, and offering whatever he can give away, and Sha-Gravis is looking for comfort, Cylence walks calmly up towards whichever of you remain, greeting the locals in Elvish as he passes by them."Sí, esta vez soy realmente yo. Gracias por seguirle el juego y por ayudarla en su camino. Sin embargo, ella dijo algo de verdad, hay otros que intentarán aprovecharse de su forma de vida."
"Yes, it is truly me this time. Thank you for playing along, and for helping her on her way. She did speak some truth though - there are others who will try to take advantage of your way of life."
Then he approaches your party directly, and switches to common. "I saw her take on my visage and practice my voice, so I ran ahead and warned the others here, and asked them to provide what she needed, enough to survive and to defend herself for now. You owe us nothing for what she has been given. I do still believe that she will make the right choices, when it comes to things larger than thieving. And... I wished to watch this confrontation, to better understand your motivations. I am very glad we have found each other. Please do follow me to the West Lookout." Cylence makes no move to apologize for his deception, apparently thinking that his explanation of his reasoning should suffice. He continues west, walking calmly across the swinging bridge to west lookout. His hands remain crossed behind his back, and he does not reach out to hold the ropes at chest height as he crosses.
When Saoirse gets to South Lookout, she sees a large group of children, and a few adults, in an unstructured mixture of play and instruction. There is a 'conflict' going on between Semmerand a young fairy child (6 or 7 in human terms) who is refusing to let go of the wooden practice sword that Saoirse had taught him to hold only an hour ago (he is actually holding it exacly right - a loose wrist and a grip that is not too firm). She succeeds in convincing the child to let go of the sword just as Saoirsearrives, but he is pouting. in one area, children play with dolls and other toys or chase each other, in another, a group of children is listening to a centaur tell a story about a wolf and coyote who have a contentious friendship. There are also a few children being taught to read and form letters by an elf man standing with a birchbark scroll. The view over the valley is lovely - but it isn't exactly a place for quiet introspection right now.
For a few seconds after Sha walks up to him, Lam is incredibly confused, having no idea what Sha could possibly want. He almost hands Sha his old greataxe but decides that can’t possibly be what he wants. Thinking that he doesn’t have the right answer but wanting to offer comfort to the clearly upset tabaxi, he gives Sha a couple of gentle pats on the head before turning to Cyclence.
He is speechless once again as Cyclence talks and reveals that they knew that was Saffron the whole time. He puts his belongings that he was offering away, waiting for another chance that they might be needed. He looks at Sha and Hemlock- if either of them are moving to follow Cyclence, he will follow also, stepping gingerly onto the bridge in the hopes that it will support his full weight. He will hold onto the ropes as he moves, which are a bit lower than chest height for him.
Hemlock merely states that, "Saffron will find her own way", to Cylence as he mentions her making the right choices. He stares at the spot she jumped down for more than few moments before finally following Cylence.
"I am intrigued as to what you wish to talk about", he says to Cylence as they walk. "I am assuming it has to do with the people from the stone building, this HMC and it's Captain Jonah. Things did not go as we intended as we left, and I fear the people of Village Tree will suffer for that, one way or another. As such, I wish to help in whatever way I can", he says pre-empting any requests for aid.
"I feel I am coming into my own here, and I do not think it is merely the lovely views and friendly people. I left home for something important, although I did not know what that was at the time. I believe I am where I am supposed to be, with the people I meant to be with", he says, reaching out a hand to place on the shoulders of both Sha-Gravis and Lam as he says this.
Looking around he asks, "I assume you also requested Saoirse, Tesfaye and Muro meet you?".
The blood hunter doesn't find the South Lookout as empty as she expected, but it does manage to get the effect she was looking for. The knot she's feeling in her throat after speaking with Saffronends up being replaced with a soft smile as she watches Semmerand the fairy kid, and the rest of children learning, playing or listening to stories. She walks up to Semmer greeting her, and when she realizes what has happened she crouches to the fairy kid's height and says:
- Hey, don't be upset, little one. There will be time for more training. Isn't that right, Semmer? - she looks to the dryad when she asks this, then she continues speaking to the child - I will probably be travelling soon, but I promise I'll keep teaching you all whenever I visit Village Tree. Would you like that? Meanwhile, keep training with your friends so you don't forget what you already know, okay? You are a fantastic student, you were gripping your sword perfectly! Now ... why don't we go with that nice elf over there to hear what he's teaching the other kids? Learning swordfighting is important, but so is learning other things, such as reading and speaking in many languages! I for example can speak Elvish and Primordial, but there are so many other languages I would love to learn!
Saoiseglances at Semmer, as to confirm that it's okay to take the kid there and if she does, she takes the fairy child by the hand and accompanies him to find a spot in the class the elven man is teaching. As she does so, she talks to him of the importance of learning all he can, along with swordfighting. She then stays for a few minutes listening to the class, after which she has to say good bye to the kid. She also gives an appreciative nod to the elf teacher before she leaves his group.
Her heart feels a little lighter when she exits the Southern lookout heading for the Western one, where she finds her friends already talking to Cylence.
- Sorry I'm late. I ... needed a moment. What did you want to talk to us about, Cylence?
The child is thrilled to see Saoirseagain, and nods along excitedly to everything she tells him. Semmersmiles broadly at the interaction, encouraging the boy to flutter after his newfound role model. As she leaves, she overhears the very ending of the story (in Elvish) and a brief call-and-response which the children already seem to know by heart.
The centaur: "Y así, el lobo persiguió a su amigo, sin entenderlo completamente, pero contento de que fueran diferentes. Ahora, hijos, aprendan lo que puedan de esta historia, porque..."
The children: "Hay innumerables historias, y todas ellas tienen verdad."
""And so, the wolf followed his friend, not fully understanding him, but glad that they were different. Now, children, learn what you can from this story, because..."
"there are countless stories, and all of them are true."
The bridge barely bends when Lam steps on it, and it is clear that it could stand much more. It is composed of countless vines seemingly grown into position, and a few ropes beside it along its length at heights to offer support to people from halfling to firbolg size. For those afraid of heights, walking the bridge may be nerve-wracking, but you would have to make a really bad and really poorly-timed mistake to actually fall from it.
When Cylencegets to West Lookout, he exchanges polite and friendly words with a few people already there. They finish up their prayers at their own pace, but do not start any new ones, and leave the lookout to Cylence,Rhys, and all of you. Tesfaye and Rhys were already there when you arrived, and Tesfaye is asking all sorts of questions about druidic magic. Rhys answers each one patiently while smoking his pipe, but even though they are both speaking common, they are speaking very different languages. Muro is nowhere to be seen.
Cylence responds first to Hemlock, saying "I have invited the five of you who i met in the prison (Tesfaye, the four PC's), and Rhys.Saffron would of course have been welcome, had she wanted to be found this morning. Instead, she is on a different path. I will wait until Saoirse arrives to discuss at length, however. Muro desires to continue as soon as possible towards Weretown, after he has a chance to make his farewells. He does not need to take this information with him."
He then sits near Rhys and Tesfaye, in the beginnings of a circle, and accepts Rhys' offer of the pipe. There is some pleasant conversation while you wait, and one other person walks into West Lookout. At a look from Rhys, the firbolg stranger turns around, and walks back out. Clearly this is meant to be a private conversation.
When Saoirse does arrive, Rhyswaves a hand, and vines drop down over the entrance to West Lookout. They could easily be pushed aside, but the message is clear: closed meeting.
Cylence straightens his back, and although he does not stand up, his body language immediately demands your attention. "The HMC is here to find something, even if few of their workers know the fact. Silvia Strixwell is acting on the belief that there is a powerful artefact hidden in the valley. Until this artefact is retrieved, the valley will be under threat from her influence, and her power. If we were to drive off the HMC, I fear that we would be soon facing Springdawn's army. Exactly what the item is, I do not know. I do know of two places where they are looking, for now. I have made many attempts to convince Rhys that we must more actively push back the HMC, and train our own people to search for this artefact, but the stubborn old goat refuses to organize his people into defending themselves."
Rhys takes his turn to speak. "Baaaaaaaa," he bleats in a perfect imitation of a mountain goat. He chuckles, then continues, "my highest purpose here is to preserve these people's way of life. The way that each of you has come to appreciate in your very short time here. I will not send the residents of this village off to search every nook and cranny of the valley, potentially awakening old threats, and definitely causing a panic. It is good for them to learn to defend themselves if something comes, but I will not send them to war, or tell them to fear. Instead, I would like to put my faith in the hands of outsiders whose intentions I can trust, but who are not yet beholden to the individual people of the village."
Cylencespeaks again: "Mercenaries have been poking at the Artificer's tower to the NorthWest of here. The Artificer has not left his tower in many years, but the village sends him enough food to get by, and he sends occasional gifts of interesting potions. No-one here seems to know his story completely. He travelled through some two decades ago, talking of a grand adventure, and established a temporary workshop in that tower. He ventured on, but then suddenly returned to the tower, and has not left since. Neither does he let other people in. Our trade has happened through a window in the tower, and even there we will not speak to anyone. Strixwell's apparent interest in him is curious. In addition, The HMC has been expanding and delving deeper into old mining tunnels just south of us. There, I fear, they will soon break through to an underground Kobold tribe, and perhaps even to an entrance to the Underdark. I would ask you to explore these places, and learn what you can. Are you willing to go on this quest?"
Sha-gravis nods at the words of both hosts. He watches to see the others responses. Sha realizes how alone he feels now that Muro and Saffi have separated. He begins wondering if this is the right path for Tesfaye, remembering their retractions during their prison escape. “I for one am ready to do all I can, I desire to preserve this precious community.”
Sha remembers the decision to leave his pride it feels like long ago. There were times he prayed to his goddess to share the void with him to erase the pains of his past, but it is what helps him to understand his goddess’ duality and need for understanding. He looks at his paws and mumbles,
”Balance my sweet moon maiden there is pain, but here is a chance for such joy, please bless this place and those who strive to protect it.”
- An old artifact... That matches what Tesfaye found in some documents while we were looking for our equipment to escape Coldwater. They did find that the HMC was looking for something, but unfortunately we didn't have much time and they never got to find any specific detail. But at least we got this - Saoirse puts the map they found in Coldwater offices in the middle of the circle they are sitting around and starts pointing at the different points of interest.
- So this is Village Tree (red dot south of the river) and this place is Green Castle (red dot north of the river). I guess theArtificer's Tower is here (maroon dot Northwest of Village Tree). And finally, themining tunnels are this small place right between Village Tree and this HMC(southernmost purple dot) stablishment? Is this right? Mmm. We could start by the mining tunnels. Breaking an opening for a kobold tribe - and whatever lies in the Underdark - sounds like something that needs quick dealing with. What do you guys think? Also, Cylence, Rhys, do you happen to know that the other northern dots are?
After clarifyng the different parts of the map, the genasi adds:
- Yes, I'm willing to go on this quest. I think it's important what Strixwell and the HCM are up to, and though I've spent no more than a day here, I've liked what I've seen enought to want to help protect it...
As Saoirsesays this, she remembers once again that her family and companions at the Order haven't head from her since she left them weeks ago for what was to be a quick visit to Springdawn's supply stores. She wonders if there would be a possibility to send them a message and thinks of asking Rhys and Cylence about just that, after the rest of her companions have commented on the matter at hand.
Rhysbows a gentle gratitude at Saoirseand Sha, while Cylence looks expectantly at the others. When Saoirse produces the map, Cylence compliments her preparation and quick thinking. "It seems you already have the mindset of an adventurer. Well done. That sort of information gathering will continue to serve you well. Hm, let's see... There to the North of Castilo Verde is Weretown, although this map does not make it clear how far there is between them, nor that the road passes through a long tunnel. To the northeast is what people call the Grave Fort - an isolated place of dark magic, which all the locals know to avoid. As for the center of the Greatwoods... Rhys?"
"There is an old summer palace/retreat area that the high elves used in the center of the greatwood there, but I can not see how it would be important to the quest. I encourage you to avoid that. And the Grave Fort as well... I can not say why, but I advise that you do not get involved with it at all. Still, this is your quest, and you must follow the road where it leads you."
Hemlock listens intently to Cylence and Rhys, and also to Sha-Gravis and Saoirse. He is not as quick to offer his services as his two companions from the prison though. He looks to Lam and Tesfaye, wondering what they would decide to do.
He imagined that word of a reclusive artificer might be too much for the tortle to pass up, and the amazing new great axe Lam had acquired did not look like it was merely an ornament. But their choices were not his, and although he was fond of the people of Village Tree, and felt sure he needed to keep an eye on the dealings of the HMC, this was not a decision to take lightly.
He half listens to Cylence and Rhys discussing Saoirse's map, as he tries to decide what to do himself, before coming to a decision.
He turns first to Rhys. "As you are aware, something changed for me last night. My eyes were opened and the path before me was finally exposed, lit by starlight", he says, his hand reaching up to the amulet at his neck. "I do not fully understand it's meaning as yet, but I know I must heed it's call. I do not think it is a coincidence that this happened at this time, in this place".
He now looks to his new companions, "I dearly want to accompany you all on these endeavours, but I need to be sure that is indeed where my path leads". He pours some of his magical power into his amulet, and the star map is revealed, projected into the air in front of him. He studies it for a short time, twisting it around and viewing it from different angles, an innate understanding of it's meaning resolving in his mind.
"I see the Archer, a protector ready to go to war for their beliefs", he twists it again.
"I see the Chalice, a life giving goblet to heal those who are injured", once again he twists it.
"And now I see the Dragon, a being of wisdom, vision and resolve".
As he speaks of the Dragon, his body starts to shift and glow, becoming luminous. His joints glimmer like stars and glowing lines connect them in the shape of the dragon he spoke of.
"Yes, I see now, I see my path", he says as his glowing eyes go wide as he repositions the star map still projected in front him. "My path is with you all. I will accompany you on these endeavours".
Lam watches everyone's faces intently during the meeting. When Cyclence begins explaining the issue, he raises his eyebrows and gives Tesfaye an impressed look- if the HMC is looking for something, then Tesfaye correctly deduced that in their short time at the place. He is already on board with the quest as soon as they ask about it- however, he forgets to talk as he watches all of his friends. He is glad to see Sha and Saoirse are coming, and impressed by Hemlock's display of magic. It is plain on his face that he admires his friends and is ready to go with and help however he can- however, he is speechless for a few more moments until he realizes many of them are staring expectantly at him. Then he snaps into realization and says, "Yes! I will go with. I will help."
This quest seems perfect to Lam- a chance to help this incredible way of life in a way he is good at, and with his new friends who he has come to care about so much. He looks at Tesfaye expecting an answer but not wanting to sway their opinion either way- he would love their company and their smarts would certainly help out, but he also wouldn't mind them staying safe and out of harm’s way. So he asks simply: "Are you coming?"
When Hemlock talks about following the stars, Rhys nods deeply, commending his wisdom. At the same time, Cylence subtly rolls his eyes. Tesfaye is very pleased when the light projection begins, but as Hemlock starts to mention different constellations, Tesfaye can't help but blurt out "astronomers can predict the position of the stars generations in advance, they move according to specific patterns, so using them to make moment to moment decisio----"
When Hemlock takes on his starry form and the dragon constellation glows clear, Tesfaye snaps their big mouth shut, looking at you with awe. Cylence's eyes widen in genuine surprise, and a hint of a smile touches his lips. Rhys just smiles knowingly and mysteriously, always proud to see a young druid on their journey.
The older men's pride is clear when Lam adds his name to the list, although they are not surprised.
As eyes turn to the tortle, Tesfaye takes a deep breath an let's it out again a couple of times before finally finding the words they want to say. "No. Sneaking into a booby-trapped tower, fighting back the HMC or a tribe of kobolds... I worry I would just slow you down, and there is so much wonderful magic for me to learn about here. I want to support your quest however I can, while staying out of the fray. And I defnitely want to meet that artificer, if you can open the way so I don't end up in battle again. What I can do from here though, is provide you with a way to communicate back, and offer some magical support to one of your items, if you'll accept it."Tesfaye produces a paired set of sending stones, placing one in the circle between you all, and returning the other to their own pocket. They also briefly describe the mind sharpener, repeating shot, and enhanced defenceartificer infusions, cautioning that they can only maintain one of them while also maintaining the magic of the sending stone.
"So,"Cylencesays, "It is settled. Thank you, travelers. May your success protect us all."
Hemlock smiles at Lam as his glowing form fades back to normal, and pats him on the shoulder, "I feel much better knowing you will be there to protect us. You haven't had a chance to really show us your skills yet, but I always felt safer knowing you were there".
He then looks to Tesfaye, "You must do what works for you. And those items sound wondrous, it is most generous of you", he says but makes no move to request the infusion, and just motions towards Tesfaye whilst looking at the others, as if to say be my guest.
He turns then back to Cylence, "I assume we will have a chance to prepare before the journey begins. I was given a gift that I would like to make use of before we leave. It will only take an hour".
When Hemlock pats him on the shoulder, Lam looks over at him and responds, “I am happy to help and protect.” So far, his friends haven’t needed protecting- but if they do in the future, he is ready.
When Tesfaye says they’re not coming, Lam is not surprised they want to stay here, and he is also relieved that they’ll be in a safe place. He focuses on this to avoid showing any disappointment on his face. He is grateful when Tesfaye describes the artificer infusions and how they’ll help, but as he listens, he is not sure he himself can make use of any of them. The most relief is shown on Lam’s face when Tesfaye produces the sending stones and explains that they can be used to communicate from long distances. Lam looks at his friends, expecting one of them to pick up the magic items. He walks right over to Tesfaye and pauses, looking like he wants to say something. Then he starts: “Be safe. Or… you will- you are smart, you are here, you will be safe. Thank you for… the stone. And for…” Here he takes another pause, struggling to find the words. Eventually he settles on: “Goodbye. We will see you again.”
When the conversation turns to Tesfaye, Sha openly stares at the Tortle.
Tesfaye takes a deep breath an let's it out again a couple of times before finally finding the words they want to say. "No
Sha not realizing he’d been holding his breath exhales in great relief.
After the agreements are made, Sha responds to Tesfaye’s offer, “What ideas could you have in mind for chain mail?...” Surely Tesfaye will give details and Sha will nod and ask questions.
Saoirsegasps at Hemlock's powerful display, amazed by the beauty of his starry shape. Druidic magic is so different to the elemental magic she wields that, for a moment there, she wishes hers were also as beautiful - even delicate - as his, instead of so raw and ... destructive. And she hasn't even started to show the most bloody aspect of her abilities. A tinge of worry suddenly fills her. How is she going to look in her companions eyes when they see all this, as compared to what they've just witnessed?
She exahles deeply as she's thinking all this, trying to remind herself that they are a team, and that the combination of all their abilities will mean the success of the quest they've just accepted. So she just smiles at her companions when it becomes clear that all of them - except Tesfaye- will be undergoing their new quest.
- I think you are making the right decission,Tesfaye. Your support will be very useful, thank you, friend. These sending stones will be pretty handy. I can take one of them, if you are all okay with this. Regarding the infussions, I think I would discard the repeating shot, as none of us really use ranged weapons that much. I do have a crossbow, but I will be mostly working at melee range. I believe Hemlock or Sha would make the most out of the other infussions. The Mind sharpener for their concentration spells sounds pretty useful, though by all means choose what you feel most comfortable with. And we can leave the decission to chance if you are not sure who to choose.
After this, Saoirse asks Rhysand Cylence:
- Is there any chance I can send a message back home? Do you perhaps know of anyone in Village Tree that will be travelling outside of the valley? My cloister is in the Frosttip foothills, just North of Speingdawn. I just want them to know that I am doing fine, as they haven't heard from me since I left to make some purchases and ended up in the HCM's hands.
Rhys looks at Saoirse with kind eyes. "It is good to let those who care for you know that you are well. I'm sure I can ask a friend to help pass a message along." He turns his head and shrieks once - a sound you recognize as a red-tailed hawk's call. "She'll be along shortly. Nobody expects you all to leave right away."He takes another draw of his pipe, but he waves his hand again and the vines closing the entrance to West Lookout part. The private part of the meeting is over.
Cylence looks a little annoyed at Rhys' lack of haste. "I wouldn't stay more than an hour or two. Its almost midday now, and these are pressing issues. I must be on my way, as well." He leaps out of the platform, over the handrail, and grabs a hanging vine, swinging on it back towards the trunk. If any of you rush to look out the window, he is out of sight before you get there.
"Show off."
Tesfaye looks up at Lamas he slowly makes his goodbye, and when the words come out, the tortle throws their arms around Lam in an unguarded embrace. "It'll take me a bit to make the infusion, you big softie. No need to say your farewells just yet." Then Tesfaye turns back to Shaand Hemlock. "Well, the mind sharpener trick should work well on your chain mail, in fact the metal's conductivity makes it especially easy to apply, but it will fit your leather just as well, Hemlock. I'm not sure I can make it shine when you do - but it would be fun to try. It's up to you two to decide. It's basically like a little battery of magical energy, ready to kick in when your own concentration starts to peter out. It feels a little wierd when it takes over for that moment, but you get used to it! I've been keeping it up on my robes for months, but I can get along without it for a while."
A red-tailed hawk swoops into the middle of the platform, landing beside Rhys, who tosses her a small piece of meat and speaks lovingly to her in druidic. "Helo, hardd. Diolch am eich amser. Hedfan yn syth ac yn wir, ac yn cario geiriau fy ffrind gyda chi. Siaradwch ef â'r un mae hi'n ei golli. Go ahead, Saoirse, tell her what you want to say, and think of the person who you want to hear it. She will bring the message to them in a few days." (animal messenger)
Hello, beautiful. Thank you for your time. Fly straight and true, and carry my friend's words with you. Speak it to the one she misses.
Lichen, the firbolg child who had met Sha-Gracis earlier, runs into the West Lookout as all of this is winding down. "Mr. Sha-Gravis, sir, come quick! Tecelão-Raiz was combining your vestments, and she's in some sort of a trance! Follow me!"
Saoirse isn't as understanding as Hemlock and would have Saffron return what she has amassed by tricking the people of Village Tree. But she also feels she has said enough and doesn't want to cause any more confrontation, specially for Hemlock and Lam's sakes.
- Good luck on your path, Saffron.

While Lam is trying to find a way to give back, and offering whatever he can give away, and Sha-Gravis is looking for comfort, Cylence walks calmly up towards whichever of you remain, greeting the locals in Elvish as he passes by them. "Sí, esta vez soy realmente yo.
There is a 'conflict' going on between Semmer and a young fairy child (6 or 7 in human terms) who is refusing to let go of the wooden practice sword that Saoirse had taught him to hold only an hour ago (he is actually holding it exacly right - a loose wrist and a grip that is not too firm). She succeeds in convincing the child to let go of the sword just as Saoirse arrives, but he is pouting. in one area, children play with dolls and other toys or chase each other, in another, a group of children is listening to a centaur tell a story about a wolf and coyote who have a contentious friendship.

The knot she's feeling in her throat after speaking with Saffron ends up being replaced with a soft smile as she watches Semmer and the fairy kid, and the rest of children learning, playing or listening to stories.
Saoise glances at Semmer, as to confirm that it's okay to take the kid there and if she does, she takes the fairy child by the hand and accompanies him to find a spot in the class the elven man is teaching.

The child is thrilled to see Saoirse again, and nods along excitedly to everything she tells him. Semmer smiles broadly at the interaction, encouraging the boy to flutter after his newfound role model.
When Cylence gets to West Lookout, he exchanges polite and friendly words with a few people already there. They finish up their prayers at their own pace, but do not start any new ones, and leave the lookout to Cylence, Rhys, and all of you. Tesfaye and Rhys were already there when you arrived, and Tesfaye is asking all sorts of questions about druidic magic. Rhys answers each one patiently while smoking his pipe, but even though they are both speaking common, they are speaking very different languages. Muro is nowhere to be seen.
Cylence responds first to Hemlock, saying "I have invited the five of you who i met in the prison (Tesfaye, the four PC's), and Rhys. Saffron would of course have been welcome, had she wanted to be found this morning.
When Saoirse does arrive, Rhys waves a hand, and vines drop down over the entrance to West Lookout.
Cylence speaks again: "Mercenaries have been poking at the Artificer's tower to the NorthWest of here.

I guess the Artificer's Tower is here (maroon dot Northwest of Village Tree). And finally, the mining tunnels are this small place right between Village Tree and this HMC (southernmost purple dot) stablishment? Is this right? Mmm. We could start by the mining tunnels. Breaking an opening for a kobold tribe - and whatever lies in the Underdark - sounds like something that needs quick dealing with. What do you guys think? Also, Cylence, Rhys, do you happen to know that the other northern dots are?
After clarifyng the different parts of the map, the genasi adds:
- Yes, I'm willing to go on this quest. I think it's important what Strixwell and the HCM are up to, and though I've spent no more than a day here, I've liked what I've seen enought to want to help protect it...
As Saoirse says this, she remembers once again that her family and companions at the Order haven't head from her since she left them weeks ago for what was to be a quick visit to Springdawn's supply stores. She wonders if there would be a possibility to send them a message and thinks of asking Rhys and Cylence about just that, after the rest of her companions have commented on the matter at hand.

Rhys bows a gentle gratitude at Saoirse and Sha, while Cylence looks expectantly at the others.

What I can do from here though, is provide you with a way to communicate back, and offer some magical support to one of your items, if you'll accept it." Tesfaye produces a paired set of sending stones, placing one in the circle between you all, and returning the other to their own pocket. They also briefly describe the mind sharpener, repeating shot, and enhanced defence artificer infusions, cautioning that they can only maintain one of them while also maintaining the magic of the sending stone.
"So," Cylence says, "It is settled. Thank you, travelers. May your success protect us all."
DM: Heavy is the Head
Sha not realizing he’d been holding his breath exhales in great relief.
After the agreements are made, Sha responds to Tesfaye’s offer, “What ideas could you have in mind for chain mail?...” Surely Tesfaye will give details and Sha will nod and ask questions.
Saoirse gasps at Hemlock's powerful display, amazed by the beauty of his starry shape.
So she just smiles at her companions when it becomes clear that all of them - except Tesfaye - will be undergoing their new quest.
- I think you are making the right decission, Tesfaye.
After this, Saoirse asks Rhys and Cylence:

Nobody expects you all to leave right away." He takes another draw of his pipe, but he waves his hand again and the vines closing the entrance to West Lookout part.
"Show off."
Tesfaye looks up at Lam as he slowly makes his goodbye, and when the words come out, the tortle throws their arms around Lam in an unguarded embrace. "It'll take me a bit to make the infusion, you big softie. No need to say your farewells just yet." Then Tesfaye turns back to Sha and Hemlock.
Follow me!"
