((Y'all roll stealth? Then we can get surprise on the source of this noise without making a sound. Not me tho, since I can't make any stealth actions when I'm already using my action to move and maintain the illusion. I'll stay on the back of the marching order. Any objections?))
As you wander for a bit. You continue to hear strange sounds carried by the wind, but you move about unmolested.
Suddenly there’s a blinding flash of light as lightning strikes ⚡️a hill 100 feet or so away. For the briefest of moments you can see the silhouette of a slender figure on top of the hill watching you.
Taking the suggestion of both dwarf and the half-orc, Mara quietly drives the fog forward by creating quiet figure eights with her fan, keeping everyone hidden now, gently circling by, but not touching a copse of trees for Progo to skulk behind.
When Progo leaves, a sly grin spreads from Mara's mouth as she makes two sharp jabs with her fan the opposite direction, casting minor illusion: as an illusion of Thalron hiding behind a different tree with Winter's Dark Bite ready to attack (assuming Thalron's dwarven stature fits inside a 5 x 5 cube 😆).
Since minor illusion requires no verbal components, Mara doesn't make a sound to cast the spell. Then to add some realism, she tossed one of the priestly sticks of incense in her inventory by the roots of that tree to make as much noise as possible (l create a distraction, aka the Help action to give Progo advantage to the stealth check and to test if something really is up with these trees).
Once that business is done, if nothing happens the illusory fog resumes moving, towards the top of the hill as Thalron said.
Progo is going to sit and wants to wait within striking distance to see how it plays of with the fog coming closer
( I kinda want to assassinate the figure but my luck this is someone helpful! Progo has been a horrible assassin so far and feels like I'm missing a good opportunity! Story wise, I think its best we find out friend or foe. But I can't help but want to try Progo out for how I built him! Oh well)
((Sorry, I've been preoccupied this weekend. I hope I haven't been keeping everyone waiting. Also this whole situation is giving me mad anxiety and i don't really know what I'm doing...))
Mara will bring the fog illusion running up the hill to meet the creature 25 feet away from it, just enough for Thalron and Fred to go running in if they want to.
From there Mara will suddenly appear in front of the creature, in a slight bow of reverence and her mouth shrouded by a fan.
"Are you the king of this realm?" she calls out loud.
But to Progo, Thalron and Fred to whom the fog is completely see-through...
they will see that the real Mara is still hiding behind the fog. She had actually casted minor illusion twice, once to create a copy and the other for a voice.
The creature itself could tell that this is an illusion by touching the copy of her or using an action to make an investigation check on Mara's spell DC.

(Don’t think Minor Illusion can move, it’s a still image. Silent Image can be made to animate, but that’s a level 1 spell. Sudden appearance and NO bow of reverence, fan covering mouth could still work as minor illusion.)
Minor Illusion Mara is completely still, already in a bow. I had written this somewhere but ended up deleting it because it looked like I was showing off. She's not moving at all, which is the reason why the fan is over her mouth.
You now can see the figure more clearly. It is a young woman with flowing, blonde hair. Her regal gown is well-worn and covered by a steel breastplate. She stands proudly, with a diadem upon her head. She stands with one hand on her cocked hip the other on the hilt of a greatsword. “You shouldn’t be here.” She says solemnly.
So you are all walking forward with the butterfly scouting above you?

(I'm good with that, Progo can keep making Hide actions, as a bonus action to stay stealthy)

(Nat 20!)
Progo is try to sneak around to try and come up behind where the person was with the rapier out, trying to keep the fog in sight.
Yup, you do that. You are the sneakiest sneaker that ever sneaked.
Fantastic. Now what do you want to do about it?

You are currently unseen. I’ll say you are within striking distance if you want to be.

Whoops, sorry for not being clear:

(Is she making eye contact with the illusion or with us, as if she can see us concealed in the mist?)

With the illusion, but she’s side-eying the moving ball of fog.
