Archie taps away at the thing, her tinker's tools extending out of the fingers of her gauntleted hand, she seems to get frustrated and then throws the cube back to Reed, "It's got no moving parts that I can tell, weird maze design but it's odd for a puzzle box... maybe it's not meant to open but to be used as a key to e very square lock or something?... anyway what we doing today, basement dungeon? I hope it ain't as sewery as the last one or I'll have to ask corlith to prestidigitate my boots clean again."
After enjoying the breakfast supplied by Reed, Corlith feels refreshed and ready to move. In fact, he feels more than refreshed, he feels stronger.
"If we are to make Duke Vanthampur pay for her crimes, as well as this High Overseer, then the basement is where we must go. I would hope they would keep this one cleaner, people of station don't usually like to get filthy".
He looks at Archie for a few moments, weighing up whether to say anything about what Iron Maiden told them, but ultimately decides to wait until they have finished the job and turns towards the stairs.
Virro says to Reed while patting his second pouch. “Thumb. The bastard kept annoying me… all of us, really. Didn’t know that would do him in, but, *shrugs* you know. Tell him” Virro looks at the air surrounding Reed’s head “Tell him that he should have eaten some protein and vegetables once in a while, dammit. And perhaps he should have gone out and touched some grass every now and again. Instead of holeing up in that little room with his little imps. Then he might not’ve died from a paper cut. Sheesh.” Virro pauses for a second, smelling the air, tapping his chin. “What’s for breakfast? Eggs?”
After breakfast, he seems reinvigorated, standing and following behind Reed. “To the basement, more adventures await!” And he gives a rather awkward laugh and smile, looking around for reassurance from his new companions and … friends?
Wilfred slept through most of it, but he perks up when he hears Thavius Kreeg. He watches as Virro finishes off the pathetic little man, and smiles. He follows the rest down. He grabs a plate of food, then settles near Reya.
"So, what do you know about this Thavius guy, anyways. It seems like if he really had the best Elturel at heart, he would have been in the city when it disappeared. But, I mean, you can expect these so called leaders to have the best interest of the working class at heart. You know what I mean. Anyways, what can you tell me about this Thavius guy?"
After finishing breakfast, he starts getting ready. At Virro 's statement, wilfred parts him in the shoulder. "That's the spirit! But let's all be careful, alright? I do not want to see any of you younglings getting hurt, ya hear? Good. Let's go kick some butt!"
"Good to go Wilfred. Do you want to lead then? It sounds like we will come across resistance. Or perhaps Reed can lead again, and try and sneak about and get the jump on whatever is down there?", Corlith asks.
"I'm sick of basements and sewers and fighting in the night, I wanna spend a day in the sun, just once... when this is all over and I'm out if this damnable suit, we can relax right? Spend a day in the sun?" Archie sighs and complains as the group make their way down below ground once more.
"I'm sick of basements and sewers and fighting in the night, I wanna spend a day in the sun, just once... when this is all over and I'm out if this damnable suit, we can relax right? Spend a day in the sun?" Archie sighs and complains as the group make their way down below ground once more.
Wilfred skips a step at Archie's statement. He stops and turns to her, grabbing her shoulders. "Don't worry. We will figure it how to get you out of the suit, sweetheart. You're going to be fine..." He quickly pulls her into a big hug. He says quietly "We're going to save you, Sophia. We'll save you..." He'll quickly pull out of the hug. "Ahh, right, Archie. Not Sophia. Yea."
He turns and heads back to the front, wiping a tear away. "Let's finish this. Come on Reed, I'll be right behind you."
Archie who towers over Wilfred in the armour has no real choice but to accept the surprise hug, she gives him a pat on the head and a soft, "there there Wilf, don't get too upset yeah, you know I'm not dying or anything, right?..." as he pulls back and wipes his eyes, she looks around to the others and gives a concerned shrug to them, especially at the mention of Sophia.
Reya looks up at Wilfred, the one she can tell the rest of the party looks up to as well. "Thavius? Well, I don't know him personally, but he was in Baldur's Gate when Elturel went down, at least that is what I was told and it sounds like it? But if he didn't know Elturel was in trouble, how can he be blamed for being out of town when it happened? I'm just hoping he has some knowledge on the whole thing and knows how to get the great city back."
After hearing Reed's report of the storage room, the group heads downstairs to find the Duke and take care of business. Following Reed, they head down the stairs and to the right where the room opens up that indeed looks like a storage room. Four stone pillars brace the ten-foot-high vaulted ceiling of this dry cellar, the walls of which are lined by a dozen barrels on wooden braces. Half the barrels have brass spigots tapped into them. The room also contains two stacks of wooden crates — one in the middle of the room and another by the south wall.
Once everyone piles in and looks around, noting the doors to the East and the West of the cellar, three spined devils pop up from the top crate of the stack located in the middle of the room. They surprise the group with an attack.
The first one attacks Reed, whipping a tail spine at the halfling and lodging it right beside his collarbone (3 piercing and 6 fire dam). The second and third fling their tail spines at Wilfred and Roo, but miss.
Virro sees the barbed devils and recognizes them, bringing up bad memories of the Low Lantern. He moves to the south and west, getting up on one of the crates in the corner to the southwest of Archie. He uses his turn to cast bless on Wilfred, Roo and Archie. “Enhante, Take them down!” he says in a strange voice, glaring at the spined devils.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Reya moves to her right so the stone pillar isn't in her way, loads her crossbow and fires at B... and it goes wide. "This accursed contraption! I really need something better for ranged attacks!"
Seeing that his initial spine stuck in the halfling, he flings another one at Reed. It sticks beside his collarbone on his other side, deeper. (6 piercing and 5 fire dam)
Wilfred tenses when he hears Archie say that, remembering the body in the armor. He keeps moving forward without saying anything else.
As the spined devils attack, Wilfred doges out of the way, but then sees Reed get hit. "Hey, stop that that, you jerks!" Wilfred viciously slashes at the devil in front of him, putting some extra oomph into his attack, which pays off! He cuts deep into its neck. He steps forward and sends the butt of his glaive toward him, smashing it's head almost clear off it's body. "Now you two behave!"
Attack: To Hit 19 + 6 - 5 = 20; Damage: 7 + 14 = 21 Slashing Movement: Move forward closer to the devil. Bonus: To Hit 11+6+3 = 20; Damage 2 + 4 = 6 Bludgeoning
Archie stays where she is but jumps on the spot with joy, "PUPPERS! I'm gonna touch one this time!" she then pulls out her light hammer, burning in her hand, and a dagger and one after the other hurls them, directly over Roo's head and toward the devil directly north of her, (14 to hit, 8 bludgeoning dam. 10 to hit, 3 piercing dam, respectively) once thrown the light hammer flares up and magically returns to her hand once more, the dagger unfortunately stays put wherever it happened to land.
"Cheeky little...I didn't expect resistance so soon", Corlith says with a sigh. He reaches out a hand and sends radiant flames dropping from above to try and engulf the devil that Archie attacked. He then takes a step back to stand against the wall.
Action: Cast Sacred Flame at the Devil Archie attacked. DC 15 Dex Save or take 8 [radiant] damage Movement: 5ft south
Reed gets slammed in quick succession by two hits of the spine devils thorns. He staggers and nearly drops to his knees from the loss of blood and the searing pain. Anything close to another hit like those and he'd be permanently talking to only the ghosts.
He snaps too, pulls an arrow quickly out of his quiver and lets it go, using Wilfred as a distraction to hopefully open up the one devil a little bit more. But the blood running down his arms causes his hand to slip and the arrow ricochets off, harmlessly (3+7=10 to hit for 16 damage)
Reed then drops low and scampers over to the kegs on the western wall, finding somewhere to hide and to stop being a pin cushion (Stealth 4+9=13).
With a one, two 'punch' Wilfred takes out spined devil A, Archie's hammer hits devil B with the help of Virro's blessing, Corlith's flame radiates its damage down on devil B, but Reed's arrow flies wide.
Spined devil B saw Wilfred destroy his buddy and whips one of his tail spines at him, lodging it into his shoulder. (4 piercing and 6 fire dam)
Roo hadn't gone to breakfast. He'd spent his time alone, wishing he'd been outside. For the first time in his life, he was unable to go outside, rain, snow, storm or otherwise, to worship another glorious day beneath the gaze of Gallus. After the rest, after killing Thurstwell and the fight in this wretched prison the Featherless called a home....he was beginning to wonder what this was all about, beginning, slowly, to lose his way, and to lose himself in a quest for revenge that only a few days ago would have been unconscionable to a, somehow, younger version of the Gallus warrior who had been more care free, more boisterous...who was now spiraling into a dark void.
As he began to realize this, he made the conscious decision to not be the Gallus he was becoming...and was all too aware of how difficult that was going to be.
He was not good at this, this conscious decision he'd made. He had trudged down the stairs on Glory of Morning's back, lost in his thoughts (hearing the distant hoots and screeches of the Harvester in the Dark) and readying himself for violence...
...which came as soon as they entered the store room Reed had informed them about prior.
The fighting that broke out quickly turned vicious as Reed caught a spike in the upper chest. Roo's eyes darted around, watching as Wilfred, Archie, and Corlith went on the offensive, killing one of the fiends and then putting the hammer down on the other.
"Sally forth!" He says, spurring Glory of Morning into action and charging up to get next to Wilfried, pinning in both the fiends and attacking A. His sword was in his hand before his mount even came to a stop, and the black blade, whispering its dark thoughts into the air around it, sliced viciously into the fiend...
As Roo'Stor charges in on Glory of Morning and strikes spined devil C, the fiend quickly retaliates, attempting to bite him but misses. He then takes his fork and stabs the rooster right above his cherished armor (11 piercing dam)
Virro sees the two spined devils side by side, he points his hand at them and hisses, a ghostly hand appears and splits in half, one goes toward one devil and the other attempts to lock onto the other.
Chill touch 1 : 11 to hit, for 4 points of necrotic damage.
Chill touch 2 : 15 to hit, for 7 points of necrotic damage.
