Hi everyone, I'm running a 5e space campaign and looking to recruit three new players. The campaign has played on Discord, standard array no multiclassing, level 8, custom races highly desired. We currently have a red panda wizard a polar bear sorceress a goblin fighter who throws magic cards, and a dark elf cleric. This is definitely a rule of cool game more than rules lawyer. Lots of homebrew.
Please include a background, you may make up your home planet and it's culture. Recruiting several players so feel free to post multiple ideas but do so separately please.
Ohhhh, this is just what I was looking for! Here's a character I got in mind!
Name - Krikket Ipoa'u Race - Mantis/Mantisfolk (Homebrew) Class - Beastmaster Ranger Background - Outlander Origin - A distant solar system on the planet known to the natives as "Uola," it was primarily inhabited by those who were like Krikket. Insectoid, and primitive. Sentience was common in the junglerich planet, but they weren't quite in the civilization stage. This was the time when they were "discovered" by some spacefaring explorers, and the planet was moreorless colonized. Krikket was taken to the more civilized world as a show of what they had found, and they were also allowed to stay there. However, Krikket would never quite grow out of their old customs and cultures. Clothing was repulsive to the insectoid, and they maintained the strict routines of their tribe. Their companion, a snake-like entity, is one of the only other things they have out of their old home, and they desperately wish for those days back. (More info on Uola will come if I get picked!)
Assuming 500gp + 1d10 X 25 gp for level 5-10 for gear non-magic gear (as per DMG)
Name - Osluf Calmwater Race - Sea Elf (Mordenkainen Presents) Class - Rogue Background - Investigator Origin - Osluf was taken from his oceanic world by raiders when he was a small child. He was sold off to a cartel and spent many decades working as an indentured servant for a vast library complex floating in the astral plane. His skills were honed hunting for rare books and items to add to the library's vast knowledge. After he won his freedom, he used the skills he picked up to gain a bit of wealth and is currently freelancing his way through out the multiverse.
Background Gratnock was born on the planet Wyrmholer, a place ruled by dragons and their ilk. All on this planet are under the heel of the clergy - in service to the 5-headed dragon god Tiamat, or "the Grumpy *****" as she was called when none of her clerics or paladins are in ear shot. Gratnock was never particularly into any kind of worship, and in a fight over a female he ripped the throat out of a rival who happened to be connected. Next thing he knows he is stowing away on a Githyanki trading ship. The Githyanki found him and dumped into a desolate area of wildspace after a severe beating. This was not the end, however, as Gratnock was picked up by a spelljammer. Pirates in fact. The Githyanki were some of the first to fall, with Gratnock exacting a horrid and bloody revenge on them. Years of hard living in deep space and pirating has made him hard and tough, but also has come with some wisdom.
While Gratnock was still on Wyrmholer, he learned the ancient runnick magick of his dragonborn ancestors, each ruin tied to a different chromatic dragonborn. He has maintained his studies on his own and has continued to grow in power.
He has a hatred off all worshipers of Tiamat, and while bloodthirsty when riled, he was happy to be pirating without slaying everyone on board, realizing the indiscriminate murder most servants of Tiamat follow doesn't really pay off long term.
Background: Shellington was once a familiar to the Great and Powerful ZImblezork Zumblehump, a wizard of some renown on the world of Xoumia. He was a simple turtle, swimming in his tank and worrying for little other than the odd bit of lettuce. His master was, in his own words, "A Master of the Elements, Planar Expert and Adept of Multiversal Travel", according to the posters around his workshop anyway.
Whilst experimenting with opening a planar gate to the Elemental Plane of Water, Zimblezork, during wild and totally necessary somantic gesticulations, accidentally knocked over Shellington's tank, sending the small reptile plummeting into the oceans of the Elemental Plane. He was tossed, turned and thrown around on currents and riptides for what seemed like an eternity, before sinking to the frozen depths of that Great Ocean. All he desperately wished was to return to his master. His wish was heard by the Great Deliverer, God of the Merfolk, Eadro, who transformed Shellington into a Tortle, imbuing him with some of the power of the Great Ocean.
Swimming to the surface, by Eadro's blessing, he came across a spelljammer vessel which has crash landed on the ocean planet. Lending aid to the crew, his abilities were recognised by the captain and he was recruited as a mercenary for the return journey.
Shellington now travels the multiverse, seeking out his master, who he knows must be looking for him. But Xoumia appears on no star charts....
Name - Fay Stareg Race - Wood Elf Class - Gloomstalker Ranger ( Level 8 ) Background - Criminal Origin - Captain Fay Stareg is ex captain of The Commodore, a cargo ship that used to deliver life organisms between worlds for fertilisation and in hopes of ending planetary hunger, however the ship was attacked and boarded by pirates, a targeted hit and run job in hopes of taking the money the cargo ship raised.
The captain was captured and taken aboard the pirates ship, while the rest of the crew were mercilessly killed; within the holding cell’s Fay met a space outlaw called Sylas and the two soon found common ground and made a deal, if Sylas could help think of an escape plan then Fay would pay him back by assisting in a heist.
Once they landed on a distant forest moon called Satyrs, they ambushed the guard who was watching them, stole their keys and escaped into the forest. Whilst on the planet, they stole a different ship and escaped, the two became wanted outlaws, until Fay decided to go her separate ways over a disagreement during a heist gone wrong. She became an outlaw in her own right, but retiring soon after to avoid being arrested and thrown into a space prison.
she’s now a crew mate for hire who aims to keep her past private and to not arose suspicion of her past as an outlaw.
Homeworld: - Fay comes from a forest planet called Dryad 7, where it’s inhabitants live in giant tree houses within the mountain sized trees, the planet is green on the surface but is very ripe with foliage and dangerous creatures within. Its culture is made up of warriors and guardians of nature, often trading in their methods with other planets for resources. The planet is humid due to the large amount of foliage which creates almost a greenhouse effect. inhabitants of the planet learn how to walk in the shadows and this is a very useful trait for an outlaw

Thanatos, the ninth planet, is the only habitable world of it's system and even that designation is marginal at best. It is a world of grey-black dust and natural mineral deposits that are as carcinogenic and radioactive as they are valuable. The citizens survive at the mercy of decrepit, wheezing, air scrubbers and hunger is the norm. Thanatos is ruled by a hereditary theocracy; the last clerics of Myrkul, the God Undying, who was usurped in his power by the betrayer Cyric and replaced as the God of Death by Kelemvor. While most clerics of Myrkul accepted the death of their god to be as natural as the ending of all things and embraced Kelemvor, a few die hard zealots fled to the only place so remote and meaningless that they would be beyond notice or hunting. On Thanatos, they were welcome. On a world where death lingers everywhere, the purveyors of final rites are always in high demand.
Backstory: As a daughter of the "clerics" of Myrkul, Nav is privy to a dark secret. While their god yet lives, his power is broken and he exists in a state of unliving immortality. The clerics of Myrkul are not the clerics of a deity, but the warlocks of a vengeful patron who longs to see his power restored. It is for this purpose that Nav has been sent forth into the galaxy, to seek the dark rituals that the can help the Myrkulites restore their patron to his proper place among the gods. It is a duty and an honour she has been preparing for since birth.
Often misnamed Centralia after its bustling trade hub, Sindar used to be a verdant world teeming with life in all of its forms. It was a prosperous and egalitarian world that housed some of the finest libraries, museums, and universities in the quadrant. Despite this, a desire for diversity and understanding led many to send their youth to study on other worlds before returning to Sindar to complete their formal education. It was this attitude that saved those now known as the Orphans of Sindar.
No one knows where the necrolords came from or why. They neither claimed the planet nor stole it's wealth. Instead, they seemed to come for the single purpose of eradicating life.
They could have burned the world from orbit. In the end they did. Whatever their reasons, the necrolords needed blood to satisfy their agenda and it ran freely in the streets of Centralia as the armies of the depraved and the dead slaughtered the city's inhabitants. It's said the not a sentient creature was left alive when the armies returned to orbit and burned Sindar to dust. Anyone whose seen what remains prays that was true.
Backstory: Tashia Starflame was a typical daughter of Centralia before the "Orphaning." Unlike many of her peers who were lost or set adrift by the ending of their world, Tashia found for the first time her passion and her purpose. Devoted to protecting the innocent, Tashia now serves as a space marshal, traveling the spaceways to ensure the safety of travelers and observe for signs of threats to the safety and security of the known worlds.
