"Pleased to meet you!" the blue eyes of the tall adventuress look at the interlocutor with cordiality "Now, where was I? Oh, yes; It's a wonderful thing, I said! Thanks to people like you, one day, moving through these places will be safer for everyone!"
"Take some advice, though..." the blonde arcane warrior seems to worry, struck by a thought "Take an armed guard with you - or at least a fast horse... because if any of the 'dangers' that you are supposed to map should decide to give you unwanted attention... You know, we recently encountered giant spiders that attacked a wagon, just to make you better understand what I'm talking about... I like your enthusiasm and your intelligence! But also try to be prudent enough to continue to… to be able to express these commendable qualities, OK?”
Seeing that Dusk and Khessa have the situation with the wood elf well in hand, Togar begins to look over the wreckage, looking for what is salvageable, what can be gathered and put in our wagon. The wood elf looks so dazed, she will clearly need transport and further attention. It would help to bring any items that can be saved from their wagon with them. She seems in shock, so Togar will help as he can, gathering anything that could be salvaged.

“That is fascinating! I am headed to the academy, I’m sure that there will be courses involving cartography as well. Let me see how you make a legend for your maps, very nice! Can I see an example of your work?” Togar scans the map, trying to make note in his mind of any points of danger or interest that he was unaware of. “I do agree with my fellow travelers that you do need some protection as you undertake your work. We will be on the lookout for the goblins. Are there any cartographer tools that you need? I have a way of … making things. It won’t last too long, mind you, but if you need me to construct a tool for you with my magical skill, I’d be glad to do so. In return, if you happen to have any spare map or scroll case, I would like to have an extra. Is there any tool that you need, anything I can produce?” As an example, he waves his hands around, using his minor conjuration skill he produces a compass, with a flourish, looking at him questioningly.

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Erlang steps forward as he joins others and approaches the wood elf. His tall, athletic figure casts a protective shadow over the scene, and his gaze shifts from the wood elf's somber face to the small, lifeless form of the badger nestled in her arms. "Do you know where the spiders came from, ma'am?" He asks softly, a hand on the handle of his glaive, his concern evident in the furrow of his brow. "Is there perhaps a lair nearby?"
Helping with the small creature, Dusk also asks the elf, "Where is it you are heading? The woods are not safe. You should probably not be left alone. We have a cart were you can rest if you would like."
((what's up with the badger? White said 'lifeless', but we were asked for a med check, and I didn't see a reply to that. Did I miss that it's dead?))
Dusk you look over the badger then cast healing word, focusing on the small creature. Knowing your own magic, you felt the spell take hold, but the creature continues to show no signs of life. After a few moments, and feeling as if you were wrong for thinking the spell took hold, the badger begins to stir slowly. As it does, there is a slight hiccup in the crying coming from the elf that is replaced with a somber laugh that slowly cheers into a cheerful smile as the badger continues to stir and eventually open its eyes.
Erlang, as you ask these questions and recall that three of them came charging out of the forest before attacking, the elf speaks up now seemingly capable of speaking "a- a lair, I do not know. I am unfamiliar with these lands" she looks back down at the badger laying in her lap. "They blindsided us from the forest" she points in the direction of where the three spiders had come from "and they- they killed everyone. I thought surely I was next." She then turns to answer Dusk "we were on our way to Wakefield before we got ambushed by those spiders" she continues to pet the badger "I am not alone anymore. I have Amelia with me" there is a small purr from the badger as she says this. She then contemplates the offer before continuing "We were in a hurry, I can't afford to go the opposite direction. We can walk like we have so much of this travel."
Togar you begin to search around the wagon in search of anything salvageable. You find a decently crafted iron longsword on the ground near one of the dead folk. He appears to be wearing tattered leathers that were likely destroyed in the fight. He appears to be the only warrior type from the group. The other dead bodies look to have been traders and maybe some other commonfolk who were paying for a ride. Between all of the traders you find 13silver coins and 4gold ones. The majority of the clothing is badly damaged, and it may be in bad faith to strip these deadfolk (OOC: though I'll leave that to you). As you continue searching the wood elf speaks up "this may be of interest to you" she reaches for a latch on the inside of the wagon and as it flings open a small chest falls out hitting the ground and opening. A small precious violet gemstone tumbles out of the chest and onto the side of the wagon.
(OOC: there are various common textiles in barrels like wool, linen, and cotton, should you want to take some of it. These traders seemed to mostly peddle in textiles.)

"Ah my name is Junior" he reaches his hand out to shake Khessa's "it's a pleasure to meet you and your group" as conversation continues to fully closes his book temporarily to pay better attention "oh, if I could afford a protection detail, I would, but I am only an apprentice cartographer." He pauses a moment "I have much studying and many fees to pay before the Cartographer's Guild will accept me. One day though, one day I will be a full fledged Master Cartographer." He slides his charcoal and book into a pocket of his jacket. "An academy you say?" as you begin to speak, Togar. "Good luck with your studies!" He pulls his book out once again to display one of his legends. As you ask to see one of his maps though he responds "I don't have any of my maps on me at the moment, just my book for flora." He gestures back at the camp you can see back where you came from. "All my maps are back at camp." As you offer to create some temporary tools for him, he thinks for a moment "no, I do not believe there is anything I need at the moment. I'm planning on returning to the city soon, and I can resupply then should I need to. I unfortunately don't have any map cases to spare. If there was anything I was in need of it would be another case or two." he chuckles to himself "but I somehow thing having a temporary case created by you would be detrimental when it disappeared and my maps fluttered out over the wind!"
(OOC: You did not miss anything Dusk. I just hadn't had a chance to make a post yet.)

Khessa, impulsively, embraces Dusk with enthusiasm, (OOC: @kevtr0n: What's the feeling, byt the way? There is the sensation of skin or of the warmth of life? OR it is like embracing cold inanimated matter?) noting how the unusual travel companion, seems to have managed to sav, with a single spell, not only one but two creatures - given that even the wood elf seems to recover no less than her badger: "You have been great! Really well done!"
Upon hearing the wood elf think of walking with the only company of her pet up to Wakefield, the blonde arcane warrior is immediately concerned: "Wakefield? And where is it? How far is it still from here?"(OOC: @DM: Does Khessa know where Wakefield is? And how much time would we waste if we decided to take the wood elf there with our wagon?)"You've already been very lucky now, that we arrived just in time... What will you do if you find other dangers or baddies? Maybe it's better if we bring you to Wakefield with our wagon... Yes, opposite direction, but if it is not too far..."
Kell stays silent for the majority of the conversation, nursing his wound and brooding. After they have finished talking to the elven lady, he joins Togar looking through the mess of the broken carts and bodies. A caravan like this should have carried some tools, no? If he finds any, he moves a little ways off the side of the road and starts to dig graves. He doesn't ask for any help, but does glance at Khessa a couple of times.

"That may be helpful to trade for supplies when we reach town later,"Dusks says, looking at the gem fall from the small chest.
Kell, you do find a shoddy shovel and what is essentially a tire iron for changing out a wheel if one broke. After you finish speaking Khessa the elf continues "I do not know the distance to Wakefield. I have never been. I do know it's after the next town however." The elf pauses for a moment "perhaps you are right and it is not safe, but these roads are the nicest we have seen since we started this journey. I'm sure we will be safe."
(OOC: Khessa you have been to Wakefield. You visited during the events of 'The Crypt of the Blood Witch'. You all know Roonshire is 2 weeks back the way you came from. Your wagon currently has an additional 2 weeks of feed for the horses as it is, and that's if nothing goes wrong on your trip. Most of the feed that was on the elf's wagon has been dismantled and blown around in the wind and fight. You might be able to salvage enough for an extra week, with some extreme luck, two weeks. (OOC: Oh, yes, thank you! Silly me! The name reminded me of something, but I had only quickly checked a few posts back of this campaign and I hadn't found any references... and to say that I had actually talked about it with Ozemon at the beginning! Fine thanks! Only, if so, it's a little too far, damn it.
As far as the gem is concerned, as you described the scene I understood that the wood elf gave it to Togar - she spoke to him, in taking it out - so I assumed that he took it. If he didn't, Khessa casts Detect Magic as ritual, just to be sure she's not picking up yet another cursed item, then she takes it into her custody).
"Ah, wait dear... Wakefield... Yes!" Khessa slaps her forehead "It's after the next town, Roonshire, indeed! It took us 2 weeks, by wagon, to get from Roonshire to here. Then Wakefield is roughly another 2 week beyond Roonshire to the west. If it is so, however, unfortunately it's too far away for us to be able to accompany you..." she becomes visibly sad "We'd be delayed by 8 weeks in all, 4 to take you there and another 4 to come back here. And in the meantime, the creature we have to take care of who knows what could it do!" she sighs "I'm afraid you'll have to take care of yourself. Perhaps in Roonshire it will be best for you to wait for someone going in the same direction as you and travel in company. At least you'll be a little safer".
"You should go with us to the next town. There you may be able to find travelers to accompany you," Dusk says, looking to the elven woman, adding, "Your task may be important, but four weeks of travel alone in the woods is not safe. It is always better to show up late than never at all."
Khessa, impulsively, embraces Dusk with enthusiasm, (OOC: @kevtr0n: What's the feeling, byt the way? There is the sensation of skin or of the warmth of life? Khessa is initially surprised when the creature she has embraced begins to… vibrates slightly? But after she gets used to it, she likes that feeling... 'This strange creature is really full of surprises ... And more importantly, it looks good and sensitive!'
The blonde arcane warrior enjoys the unprecedented sensation for a while longer, then, when she decides to release her embrace, she smiles: "Great! You really are a precious travel companion".

"Listen to Dusk's advice..." the tall adventuress almost pleads with the wood elf, concern evident in the back of her blue eyes "Can't you feel the wisdom they are imbued with? Come with us. You'll be safer".
... If he finds any, he moves a little ways off the side of the road and starts to dig graves. He doesn't ask for any help, but does glance at Khessa a couple of times.
Khessa, once she thinks she's done everything possible to convince the wood elf survivor, finally notices the looks Kell has been giving her for a while while he's shoveling...
"Oh, wait for me, Avimm and I will help you!" the blonde arcane warrior says; if there are more shovels available, she takes one herself, gives another one to Avimm and they immediately help dig graves for the fallen. If there aren't enough shovels, Avimm can help by removing the already turned earth by hand while Khessa and Kell shovel (or if there's only one shovel altogether, Khessa offers to take turns with Kell while Avimm hand-helps).

Togar is impressed with Dusk’s healing abilities and he watches with curiosity, tilting his head back and forth as he watches the animal come back, start to move again. “Wonderful!” is all he says, flashing a smile at Dusk.
Togar straightens up, and hands the gem over to Khessa. “Here, you keep this, it can help us with purchasing supplies. If that is acceptable.” With the coins that are present, he tries to give that to the wood elf, saying “I found this scattered among the equipment. You should take anything here that you need. I might like to put this small chest in our wagon, to help with carrying things. Really, the town where you are going is much farther than you imagine. You should go with us, ride with us, and travel together in safety.” Togar does his best to try to convince the wood elf to join them, to travel in numbers, using all of his reasoning and persuasion to do so.

"You seem to have a deck of cards for every purpose..." the blonde arcane warrior comments, as they have finished "Some to do tricks, others to fight with, others to honor the fallen... Do cards mean so much to you?"
Kell smiles at Khessa, "I was just giving you a chance to finish your conversation. You came over before I could ask."
He glances back towards the graves "Those aren't to honor the fallen. Each of those cards signifies a debt. Debts were paid today, even if they weren't by me." Looking back towards Khessa, he nods. "The cards I carry all represent something. I suppose you could say I am a chronicler, but not of histories or sciences. Of people, and cultures. How to put this...Words only let you describe the details of things. Cards allow you to see the whole picture. It's hard to explain. We'll have a game one time, you'll understand."

Khessa ventures a comparison "A symbol is an entity that encloses a 'whole' within itself... it refers to a concept, as well as the intonations, gestures and materials to weave it into the weave of a working spell... Yours cards are something like that? Symbols?"
"Anyway, sure!" the blonde arcane warrior accepts the game's proposal "A 'game to understand', whenever you want! Who could refuse something that encompasses both fun and understanding?"
Erlang turns his attention to the elven lady, his tall figure and armored presence exude an aura of protection and reassurance. His eyes, dark and determined, meet hers with unwavering resolve. He reaches out, his gauntleted hand extending in a gesture of support, silently inviting her to find solace and security within their group.

How far is it still from here?" (OOC: @DM: Does Khessa know where Wakefield is? And how much time would we waste if we decided to take the wood elf there with our wagon?) "You've already been very lucky now, that we arrived just in time... What will you do if you find other dangers or baddies? Maybe it's better if we bring you to Wakefield with our wagon... Yes, opposite direction, but if it is not too far..."
Overturned wagon:
Kell stays silent for the majority of the conversation, nursing his wound and brooding. After they have finished talking to the elven lady, he joins Togar looking through the mess of the broken carts and bodies. A caravan like this should have carried some tools, no? If he finds any, he moves a little ways off the side of the road and starts to dig graves. He doesn't ask for any help, but does glance at Khessa a couple of times.
Cartographer:
Kell again stays quiet during the conversation, not having much to add.
“I will take responsibility for what I have done. [...] If must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer.
((I'd say it's more inanimate matter. made of mostly stone/metal/wood)) Dusk stands stiffly as Khessa empraces it, though then slightly vibrates, clearly pleased with himself and the praise given by his new companion. "I am happy to help," it adds.
"That may be helpful to trade for supplies when we reach town later," Dusks says, looking at the gem fall from the small chest.

Overturned wagon
You passed through it in the middle of your first week. Then Wakefield is roughly another 2 week beyond Roonshire to the west. Perhaps you could talk a farmer in Roonshire to sell you some feed, but Roonshire doesn't have a stable like Whiteridge does, so you won't be able to just roll up and buy feed from a Roonshire stable. Who is going to pocket the gem, just so we know who has it?)
PbP 🎲: Tyekanik; Moneo Noree; Korba Muris; & occasional DM:

A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Kell does his best to get them as deep as he can, but knowing they need to be off, he settles for a couple of feet shy of the traditional six. When Avimm and Khessa arrive he nods at them gratefully. Once they are finished, he starts to move the bodies from the site of the massacre into the graves, then covers them with the least damaged bolts of cloth from the wreckage, leaving the fallen with some modicum of decency. Once the three of them have finished refilling the graves, he reaches into a deep pocket of his duster and pulls out a deck of cards the colour of freshly spilled blood. He walks past each grave, leaving a distinct card on top of each one.Kneeling down, he speaks softly "Go walk the path of endless stars now, it is a better road than the one you left." After he finishes, he turns to Khessa. "Thank you kindly." Replacing the deck of cards, he walks back over to the group, his face unreadable.
“I will take responsibility for what I have done. [...] If must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer.
"You're welcome!" Khessa pats Kell on the shoulder "Next time, instead of trying to get my attention with silence... just speak, ok? Call me! I wasn't ignoring you on purpose, to let you do everything… I just didn't notice what you were doing. You know, I'm not too perceptive… and I was focused on the surviving wood elf".
"You seem to have a deck of cards for every purpose..." the blonde arcane warrior comments, as they have finished "Some to do tricks, others to fight with, others to honor the fallen... Do cards mean so much to you?"
"Sure!" the tall adventurer agrees "At the first opportunity we will sell the gem and divide the proceeds or use it to buy equipment for everyone".
(OOC: @DM: So, unless Detect Magic detects emanations from the gem, Khessa is the one to keeps it at the moment)
“I will take responsibility for what I have done. [...] If must fall, I will rise each time a better man.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Oathbringer.
"Like a magical symbol written in a spellbook?" Khessa ventures a comparison "A symbol is an entity that encloses a 'whole' within itself... it refers to a concept, as well as the intonations, gestures and materials to weave it into the weave of a working spell...
"They are right," He says, "It's dangerous to go alone. Let us help you get resupplied in the next town before you leave for Wakefield." He reaches out, his gauntleted hand extending in a gesture of support, silently inviting her to find solace and security within their group.
