Surprisingly, being brought up in a library deep within a city means Elsara isn't very familiar with treating animals and their empathy. She's just happy to meet such interesting creatures.
The next morning, the party notices that the rain has stopped. The ground is still wet from the two day long sprinkling but the sun has started to come out now. The party begins their journey toward Farendale. They cross the river over a wooden bridge. The bridge creaks a bit as the Lizard carriage moves over it. On both sides of the road are grassy lands. Some of the taller grass is staring to touch on to the roads. At 8:00 AM, you reach the Farendale. The smell of fish hits your nose. You hear the faint sound of running water. The Evie river bends and passes very close to Farendale. The town is primarily a fishing town where river fish are both farmed and caught. The party hears some vendors shouting prices for fresh fish. They are carrying a large basket full of silvery fish. Some of them are even flopping about. A person or two are haggling with the sellers for prices of fish.
Elsara takes a deep breath,"Urk..."She regrets taking in the potent fishy scent. She hasn't been to many port towns, and the smell isn't something she is fond of. She lightly scents her cloak to be like strawberries as she steps out. "Should we look for somewhere to get these two scaly friends to rest for a bit? They've worked so hard, and they can have a nap while we go find the heirloom."
Not fully understanding Runt's ongoing confused looks, Devarus just offered her a comforting pat on the shoulder at some point before the group moves along towards other matters.
Next day....
Devarus breathes in the scent of fish like it was a breathe of fresh air. Having spent most of his youngest days on the road, the various strange or pungant aromas of other places left him more at ease than disguist. "Indeed, Lady Elsara. Yes, indeed! At least some of us can start with the local guard once our friends here are right and settled. Maybe get a name of whoever was in charge of personal effects at the time, if nothing else." On that note, Devarus tries to flag down some random passerby and ask for direction to the nearest Inn with a stable, if not a local rental stable that might be used to caring for such lizards.

Runt, the Stormchosen: Half-Orc barbarian level 5 -- The Guild
This town has a rental stable similar to the one is Sydil. Though they don't offer Lizard Carriages, they are equipped to take care of your vehicle. You find the stables without much issue.
(BTW, thanks all for putting up with Gendan’s rival fight for a few IRL days. DM: Gendan would definitely be a part of any interrogation, but perhaps just roll her Persuasion if she would be party to something. I would like to let the other players RP and be at the center for a bit.)
Once the carriage and lizards are secured and paid for, Elsara will leave the bucket of treats for the stable keepers to treat them to. "Okay, so now that they're comfy and in the dry, shall we go find somewhere we can ask around, like an alehouse or a library?"
(To Northwest: It's all good. We all should get our character moments, as should be the case with the type of D&D games that focuses a little more on the Rp side of things. :D)
"I propose a divison of labor at this point, truth be told. Me and Miss Gendan will question the local authority to see what's been done in regards to the personal effects. While the rest of you can check the local alehouses and markets. See if there's more to this story than whatever official report given." Devarus explains. "While your at it, you lot can ask about the troubles to the south of here. See if there's any common stories going around that might narrow things down for us. Agreed?"
At that, he waits for any disapproving or counter arguments, and would at least address them before leaving with Gendan to go looking for the local watch's main hub.
(To DM: Basically making use of this little feature if at all possible. So, if he sees any criminal dens or the likes on the way, he'll make note of it.)
FEATURE: WATCHER'S EYE
Your experience in enforcing the law, and dealing with lawbreakers, gives you a feel for local laws and criminals. You can easily find the local outpost of the watch or a similar organization, and just as easily pick out the dens of criminal activity in a community, although you’re more likely to be welcome in the former locations rather than the latter.

Deva: Because of the strong presence of the Rurik Defense Force, criminals and bandits hardly ever make strongholds inside cities. So crime within cities consists of mostly individuals doing the crime. Groups and criminal dens (like the Bronze Leaf and the Pirates) usually stay outside of towns. That is, in Lun. There are some criminal dens in some cities of Rurik Main. So you can't find any criminal dens inside the city but you did find the local guard. The guard of Farendale are stationed in a wooden cabin. The force consists of one lazy sheriff, one over-enthusiastic and somewhat unhinged young half elf and bright eyed Half-Orc who seems to be a simple and down-to-earth kind of fellow.
You are in frequent contact with people in the segment of society that your chosen quarries move through. These people might be associated with the criminal underworld, the rough-and-tumble folk of the streets, or members of high society. This connection comes in the form of a contact in any city you visit, a person who provides information about the people and places of the local area.
Gendan will use her background to help Deva find the right people to talk to.
Seeing a bit of a twisted mirror in the sheriff, assuming him to be outside the cabin at the time, Devarus calls out a "Good day to you, sir!" on the approach to him. And if not, he knocks spares a similar greeting to whoever answered the cabin door along with a "Moment of your time, if you would. The name is Devarus Daknin, formerly of Sydil's Watch, and this here is my compatriot, Ms. Gendran. We have but a few questions, if that's alright? In regards to some missing effects of another."

Runt, enters the tavern and notices that people are sober here. It seems like there might be a local social stigma against getting drunk during day time. Perhaps there would be more drunk people after sunset. If you want to still ask something to someone you can go ahead.
The sheriff (who was indeed outside on a chair) snorts awake. Being a bit disoriented from suddenly waking up while also trying to pretend to not be sleeping on the job, he says, "Huh? What? Oh? Missing effects in Sydil? This is Farendale. Go check Sydil's Lost and Found."
Devarus grins crookedly. "My apologies, I misspoke before. It has been a long trip for me and mines... What I meant to say is I wanted to inquiry into any effects left behind by those executed within the city due to prior crimes. In particular, I seek those of a man named Blaise Rainseed, on behalf of his Granddaughter in Sydil, Ellise Rainseed. It would've been a recent execution, if that helps." He asks, replacing the grin for a full on solemn look.

"Blaise... Blaise... Oh yeah! Unless someone comes to claim the personal belongings of the executed, they go to guard that did the execution. It's been a while so we kind of sold the ring. Sorry about that but no one came to claim it so it was ours according to the laws." Devarus, being ex-guard, knows that the sheriff is telling the truth. But he also knows that according to the law, they were to wait longer before deciding to sell the ring. However, none of that is important now. The problem is that the ring has been sold. The sheriff says with a yawn, "The merchant was a traveling and he sat at town square. Not sure if he's still there. There's nothing more I can do for you Sorry."
Devarus frowns ever so slightly, but ultimately nods understandingly to the sheriff. "It is a lead, and one that will hopefully pan out. You have my thanks." Dev turns to leave, but stops short. Then with a sheepish grin, turns back to the Sheriff and asks, "You wouldn't happen to have a description or name of the merchant? Rather avoid being swindled, and it is a long trek between here and Sydil." He admits. "Also... how much did you sell it for?"

"No sorry. Didn't ask for it. He was a Tabaxi with black hair and grey whiskers though. He was a bit on the older side. He was pretty thin. And I sold the ring for 10 GP. It was expensive and finely crafted but otherwise very ordinary. Ask around at the square and maybe you'll find him." The sheriff starts to doze off again.
Meanwhile, what's Runt, Elsara and Val doing?
