When Kanai falls, Elsara jumps off of the cart and rushes over to make sure he's okay. Satisfied that he's neither dead nor dying, she will ask the others to help move him and make him comfortable (are any others around this camp area, or just Kanai?)
You can actually re-build him as a PC if you roll for stats (his starting set + 2 ability points from race: 14, 14, 14, 6, 16, 8 ) and take Variant Human. He is pure Monk.
Also, I'm surprised Elsara didn't make any history checks on Kanai's ramblings since it felt like she'd been spamming that skill recently.
Also, it may be martial arts but Elsara can still make a History check if she wants to. (Primarily because the I think there is a reason as to why Elsara might know what Kanai is talking about)
Unfortunately, the DC for the history check is too low. DC was 15. Because of Elsara's backstory, she's the only one qualified to make that check. Sad.

It's more martial arts, something that isn't in her main area of expertise (we have a resident monk to know those things).
