Kalhala scratches his head with his other hand, happy that Jowyn has taken his arm. He was able to navigate much better with her help through the North Ward.
"Yeah, you're probably right Lash, not sure if it was a memory, but as the Lady said it wasn't right. But nah, we're just here to retrieve the amulet, we're not going to face that thing in real life, I mean... can you imagine?" the big minotaur shudders.
Thinking over the museum, "So you think we should just ask for the gnome that is pissed we are involved and broke the ladies things? Sure, that'll go over real well."Kalhala rolls his eyes. And then shrugs, "Well, not like I have any better idea. Would be good to see where they had it displayed, and maybe they do have a list of people that have been to see it? Hopefully? It would give us a start."
"First we drop the ladies name and explain that we are working for her trying to retrieve the amulet," Lash explains. "It's true and I am sure the people in charge are expecting her to send someone so it should be easy enough to sell, no? Hopefully that is all we need to get a good look see and ask some questions."
"If that doesn't work and threatening to send for her or her evil ass butler doesn't push things any further, then we ask for the gnome. We schmooze him by commiserating with him about what an overbearing snob she is. We take his side in the whole affair and tell him we'd of course like to show her up if we could... And since we negotiated that we get paid once the amulet is found, no contingency about who finds it, what we'd like to do is work with him and see that HE finds the amulet. That he gets all the credit and praise... So long as we get paid we're happy for him to show her up like that, no?" Lash goes on, a bit of a smile growing on his face. He's played parties against one another in such a way on more than one occasion in the past. Nothing persuades like appealing to someones own self interest... Or hatred for someone else.
"Truth is, if we can't talk our way in then you're our ace in the hole," Lash jokes. "We just threaten to let you wander through their museum for an hour and see what kind of damage you can do to all the priceless antiques!"
All - The Museum of Antiquities is an imposing structure with a neoclassical design. Its facade is made of intricately carved marble, adorned with statues of ancient heroes and mythical creatures. The building stands several stories tall, and its pristine white exterior gleams in the sunlight. A wide set of marble steps lead up to the main entrance, where two massive bronze doors stand imposingly. These doors are engraved with scenes from Waterdeep's history and are flanked by torches that burn brightly day and night. Surrounding the museum are well-maintained gardens filled with exotic plants, sculptures, and fountains. The gardens serve as a serene and picturesque buffer zone between the bustling streets of Waterdeep and the museum itself. At the entrance and stationed throughout the vicinity, well-armed city guards in polished armor can be seen, ensuring the security of the museum and its visitors. They scrutinize all individuals who approach, ready to intervene if any trouble arises. You also see a diverse array of people entering and leaving the museum. Scholars, historians, and art enthusiasts can be seen mingling with tourists and locals eager to explore the museum's treasures. Some carry scrolls, notebooks, and sketchpads, clearly ready to engage in scholarly activities. Through the museum's large windows, you catch glimpses of the interior. You see well-lit galleries filled with display cases showcasing an impressive collection of ancient artifacts, including weapons, armor, pottery, jewelry, and more. Some exhibits are highlighted with dramatic lighting to draw the eye. There's a sense of excitement and anticipation in the air as visitors discuss the upcoming exhibitions and rare artifacts on display. The museum's reputation for preserving and presenting the history of Waterdeep is well-known, and people come from far and wide to experience it. The surroundings are filled with the sounds of the city – the distant murmur of crowds, the clip-clop of horse-drawn carriages, and the occasional street performer's music adding to the lively atmosphere.
Kalhala laughs heartily at Lash's joke, but ends it with a bit of a coughing fit. "Yeah, well uh, i'm not usually very proud of this fact, sure makes things hard sometimes, but to use my um, physique as an advantage? Ha! that's a good one!"
As they actually get to the museum however, the big minotaur hangs back. "So.. I tend to avoid places like this." he turns to Jowyn, "you want to take the lead on this?" he looks down at their linked arms, "I've got your side" and he gives her a big grin, enjoying his quip.
Upon entering the museum Lash starts looking around for someone in charge. Someone at a desk or who looks like more than an intern or a guard. He is looking for someone who is likely to know something about Lady Elara and the troublesome amulet who can let them examine wherever it was stolen from.
Smudge, the feline familiar extraordinaire, slinks off as well to do their own investigation. Though whether they are looking for clues or mice is really uncertain.
The museum is the sort of place that Cuervo once found fascinating. But her knowledge and appetite for the ancient had outgrown its relatively modest offerings. That was until she learned of the amulet – which made her wonder what secrets other artifacts might hold. But for now she kept her inquisitive nature in check and focused on the task in hand.
So she falls into step with Lash and sees what his approach yields.
[ooc: Given her back-story, is there anyone in the museum she might know?]
All - Entering the Museum, you see that the foyer features a high, ornately decorated ceiling that arches gracefully overhead. Elaborate frescoes depict scenes from Faerun's history, while intricate moldings and gilded trim add an air of opulence. The floor beneath your feet is made of polished marble, and it gleams in the soft, natural light that filters in through large arched windows. The marble is adorned with geometric patterns and inlaid with semi-precious stones, creating a stunning mosaic effect. Dominating the center of the foyer is a grand staircase that splits into two sweeping curves as it ascends to the upper levels of the museum. The staircase is also made of marble and features a magnificent bronze banister. Along the walls and in niches, the party can see lifelike statues and sculptures of legendary figures from Faerun's past. These artistic representations are meticulously crafted, capturing the smallest details of clothing, weapons, and expressions. Scattered throughout the foyer are glass display cases containing smaller artifacts, which serve as a teaser of the treasures that await deeper within the museum. These cases house ancient coins, jewelry, and small relics, each labeled with descriptions and historical context. You notice a mix of visitors and museum staff bustling about. Tour groups with guides holding placards lead eager guests on educational tours, while scholars and conservators in white gloves examine artifacts in the display cases. To one side of the foyer, there is an information desk where a museum staff member is restocking the various maps, brochures, and informational pamphlets about current exhibitions and guided tours. The desk is adorned with a large, detailed model of the museum itself. The hushed murmurs of visitors and the occasional sound of footsteps on the marble floor create an atmosphere of reverence and scholarly curiosity.
Cuervo -
You have a friend that works within the Museum, a hobgoblin by the name of Khoden. His work within the museum pertains to the preservation of old texts, books, documents, even the magical inscribed slates of the Githyanki. The nature and depth of your friendship is up to you, but Khoden considers you a friend whom he might bend the rules for but will always put his job and work first.
Kalhala looks around in awe at all the things encased within the museum. He starts dancing his feet a little, unable to contain the excitement of all the amazing things his eyes are laying upon.
Patting Jowyn's hand to get out of her grasp he finally escapes with a little noise.. was that a squeal?.. he'll never tell. And he charges towards the closest niche of a lifelike statue from Faerun's past, wanting to see it closer.
On his way, however, he runs into many of the glass display cases, shaking most of them, but a couple fall to the floor with a crash.
Cuervo was about to venture the information that she knows someone who works in the museum – and that, if the direct approach does not yield any success, she might be able to pull a string or two (subject to not breaking any actual rules).
She opens her mouth but before a sound is uttered, she closes it promptly. Khoden, her hobgoblin friend, would not take kindly to the mayhem Kalhala has just caused. And she was not about to put her friendship to the test.
“Well that could have gone better,”Cuervo says to Jowyn. “Hopefully not too much harm done. Can we pass off Kalhala as a complete stranger to us – or do we need to accept responsibility?”
The question was shared more in hope than expectation.
"There is what is easy, and then there is the Path, sister," Jowynsays to Cuervo with a small sigh. "Stay with the others. I'll try to help Kal."
She follows in Kalhala's wake, mending what she can and calling after the big fellow.
"Gentle steps, big guy; history tends to be break easy. And I think you're scaring the art students,"she says to Kalhala, patting him on the back. She holds out a hand to stop one of the smaller lifelike statues from wobbling. "Did one of these catch your eye?"
Lash strides over to the desk and clears his throat to get the attention of the worker. “Greetings, my friend,” he says in his most charming and persuasive manner. “We’re here on behalf of Lady Elara. In regards to the unfortunate loss of the amulet she had loaned the museum… Could you kindly direct me to who I should be speaking to about this matter?”
Lash jump a little and actually lets out a little yelp!
“Did… did you see that?” He asks the worker at the desk. “My companion there? They.., what? They were there then poof! A little smoke, a little popping sound… no more companion!”
“Hurry! Tell me who was in charge of the amulet and where I can find them before more of us are sucked out of existence!” The fear in Lash is real. He doesn’t think the museum staff will be able to help but he does believe this must be tied up with the amulet… Specifically the end of that vision. It had been just him and Noril at the end. Having something tore away. Something like smoke. Like the smoke Noril just evaporated into. Lash couldn’t help but think he’s next…
Kalhala - The silence in the aftermath of the breaking glass is deafening. All eyes are on you, many looking on in horror, others rolling in disdain, one pair bulging with rage. A young man whose features hint at a mix of human and elven heritage, stands rigidly with clenched fists as a wide circular platter rolls across the marble floor next to him. The platter tips and clatters noisily for what seems ages before finally coming to rest. Chest heaving, the man stomps over to you, his curly black hair bobbing over his spectacles, "You bumbling idiot! Are you illiterate as well as clumsy!? The signs CLEARLY state, 'Please stay back. DO NOT TOUCH.' Well? WELL!?" The man's face is thrust forward, glasses at the tip of his nose, with his clenched fists thrust backward.
Jowyn - A handful of museum staff have run over and are politely but firmly asking everyone to step back, "Thank you for your help ma'am but please, we can handle this." Some stand in a circle around the mess, keeping guests away while others begin casting Mending spells of their own. The irate half-elven man notices you and says, "Does this buffoon belong to you? I suggest leashing it if it can't control itself in public!"
All - A voice booms across the room, "Faenor! That is enough!" You see an older half-orc man making his way over to Kalhala and Jowyn. He turns to Faenor, "You are out of line." Faenor stammers a response, pointing to the partially cleaned mess, but the man cuts him off, "I recall a certain intern breaking their fair share of artifacts when they first joined us. Go wait in my office. I will be there shortly." Faenor hangs his head and heads off toward the man's office. He then turns back to Kalhala, "Are you okay? There was much glass." Looking over the mess, he says, "Do not worry about the accident, it is not the first time a guest has done such in their eagerness to learn and I daresay it won't be the last. We are well prepared to repair the damage. Please, don't let this ruin your time with us. I only ask that you take special care when moving through the exhibits." He then chats briefly with the clean-up crew before following Faenor's exit.
Lash - You see a young Gnomish woman standing on a tiered step stool as you approach. She smiles brightly and says, "Welcome to the Museum of Antiquities! How can I-" She is cut off by the breaking glass and shouting coming from the general area you last saw Kalhala. Her blue eyes go wide under auburn hair and she raises a hand to her mouth as she gasps. Turning back to you she tries to regain her composure, "Lady Elara's amulet? Yes, I... I mean, no! Um... Well, we aren't supposed to talk about it..." She looks around nervously, but sees that everyone is watching the drama unfold behind you, "But... If you're here to help... I think-" She is again cut off, this time by none other than Theroc Lankcroft, Museum Director, "Reena! I told you to inform me the moment Lady Elara's... Interlopers arrived!" Reena stutters, "M-Mr. Lankcroft! They've o-only just arrived!" Theroc rolls his eyes and mutters, turning to you, "Gather the rest of your... Troup and follow me to my office." At this point Norril suddenly disappears in a puff of smoke, much to the surprise of all around. Theroc coughs and waves away the smoke, "What in the nine hells?" Reena says, "M-maybe he teleported?" Theroc replies, "Nonsense, it is impossible to teleport into or out of the Museum, they teach you that in orientation! I do recall recording a thoroughly detailed and informative training illusion on such matters." Theroc removes his glasses and wipes them on his robe, "Now is not the time, I would see this insignificant issue resolved in my office immediately."
Kalhala, still oblivious to what he's done, wags his tail as Jowyn joins him and points up to the statue. "Doesn't it look like the missus? I wonder if it is her great grandmother?" As he says this, he hears the shouting. Gulping, he turns around and then notices all the eyes upon him. Ears drooping and the brown fur on his face turning darker, he hangs his head as the hlaf-elven man berates him.
As he turns to yell Jowyn however, anger surges through, "Leash me? Are you serious?" But just in time the half-orc shows up and is clearly the other man's superior. Kalhala takes a breath and when the man asks if he is alright, "Yes, I am fine, but I am sorry about the mess.. I didn't mean for that to happen."he still sags a bit even as the half-orc tries to smooth things over with him. But as the man attempts to leave, "Wait! I uh.." He looks around himself and too nervous to chase after the man, he turns to Jowyn, "Little help?" and that's when he notices Norill as he poofs away in a cloud of black smoke.
Kalhala's mouth drops open, "I..I...what the hell just happened??"
"Teleported?I do believe he was just sucked down to the nine hells!" Lash insists to Theroc and Reena."Look, I get you have your issues with Lady Elara but those don't need be our issue...I just want to find the damned trinket and get it somewhere safe before any more of the crew, or me myself, go poof!Trust me sir, we have no other agenda than that..."
Lash then looks back to the others... And sure as hell the scene is as bad as he feared. He lets out a piercing whistle to grab everyone's attention then gives a big wave of his arm to signal them all to head over. "Yes sir, let's go to your office and resolve this. Please."
The unknown was part of the thrill of seeking antiquities - what was just a fable and what was real. But not knowing was a different matter entirely - as Cuervo was finding out. Like Norill disappearing, and the fact that the museum curator made it clear that wasn't supposed to happen. But it did!
Cuervo falls in line with Lash and offers, "Lead on, we're as keen to resolve this as you are."
All - Theroc leads you up one of the two stairways to the second level. He nods curtly at the various museum staff that acknowledge him while you all get curious glances. Interestingly, you do pass a sign pointing to a nearby corridor that says, "Treasure's of The Earth: Lady Elara's renowned private collection now on display! Admission: 5s All proceeds will be donated to the Waterdeep Waif's Home" The sign has been magically altered to show "TEMPORARILY CLOSED" in big red letters across the rest of the text and you see that the corridor is roped off. Theroc however leads you down a different corridor, this one full of only doors that each say "Employees Only" above them. Theroc stops abruptly in front of one and enters, not bothering to hold the door for you and inside you find his office. The office exudes an air of authority and sophistication with its dark, polished wood paneling. At the center of the room stands an imposing mahogany desk, expansive in size and impeccably maintained. The desk's surface is clutter-free, except for a few carefully arranged items, such as an antique brass lamp, a leather-bound ledger, and a meticulously organized collection of pens and quills. Tall bookshelves line one wall of the office, filled with leather-bound books, historical tomes, and reference materials. These books are meticulously organized and cataloged. Theroc plops into a large leather chair with a sigh, "Now...Let me be clear. We have already conducted a thorough investigation and found no fault in our protocols nor practices that night. The amulet was accounted for by security staff on their 02:30am round and it was found missing during their next round at 03:00am. No other items from the collection nor the rest of the museum were found to be missing. There was no obvious sign of damage to the reliquary nor the glass case in which it was housed. The many security spells, no I will not tell you what they are as it is a matter of Museum security, were found to be working as intended as well. My staff found no signs of forced entry into the museum and my security staff reported no stragglers nor finding anyone onsite after hours. Trust me when I say that WE are best prepared to handle this type of investigation and our findings have been turned over to the City Watch. Since it was not technically Museum property, but that of a donor, and we have found no issues with OUR handling of the piece, we see no reason to prolong this unfortunate incident any longer. We are to be showcasing Grung artifacts on loan from the Chultan Center for Cultural Appreciation next tenday and I do not need Lady Elara's highborn drama poisoning that erudite event! We did what we were supposed to do. I posses signed documents releasing us from any and all damages including theft and loss. You may remind Lady Elara of that when you return to tell her your... 'Investigation' is complete."
"Once again let me state that your problems with Lady Alara really do not need be our problems. We are not blaming you nor your security. We have no agenda except the recovery of the amulet from wherever it may be," Lash assures in his most charming manner after taking a seat across the desk from Theroc and listening to him with attention.
"It was here at 2:30 am. It was not here at 3:00. So something happened to it... I certainly do not doubt your security or your investigation but facts are facts and it did disappear while in your museum's care. We've no desire to pin this on the museum at all, we just want the thing found. As, I have no doubt, do you..." Lasciel continues, trying to win over Theroc at least a little bit. "Whatever the issues between you and the Lady, whether they go deeper than this amulet or not, I am sure you do not condone treasures going missing. And even if you did not have that benevolent desire to have it found and returned, there is of course the more self interested reason you would - Missing items is bad public relations and surely will impact the willingness of others to lend items for future showcases..."
"So we want it found, you want it found... There is no reason we shouldn't help one another. I promise you that we will ask as little of you and your staff as possible, in return if we do find the amulet we promise to play up to the Lady and anyone else who will listen just how helpful and instrumental you and the museum were in it's retrieval..." Lasciel gives his most reassuring and sincere smile possible.
"If museum security perfect? No, nothing is. Whatever took that amulet could be as strange and powerful and diabolical as whatever took our companion... Which the whole lobby saw happen. Please, let's figure out and eradicate whatever this is...Together."
Persuasion: Nat 1 + 5 for a 6...
(I'm assuming Lash didn't win over Theroc at all...)
Kalhala tries to keep himself together as he follows the rest to Theroc's office. He does not like the little man one bit and wonders where that half-orc disappeared to. He keeps his eye on Jowyn, hoping she'll let him know if he's doing wrong in a place like this.
His eyes trail off down the corridor to Treasure's of the Earth and wonders aloud, "I wonder what Waterdeep Waif's Home is?"
As they settle in and get the whole ordeal from Theroc, Kalhala sighs frustrated on how this was starting off. Lash starts in with his reasoning, and the minotaur's ears raise a bit, looking to Theroc to see how it is received. When there is a pause, he asks, "Could we see a copy of your findings? What you sent to the City Watch? Obviously the better we work together the sooner this can be resolved and," He looks down at himself and then back to the little man with a devilish smile on his face, "I will be out of your museum." with an emphasis on I.
Kalhala scratches his head with his other hand, happy that Jowyn has taken his arm. He was able to navigate much better with her help through the North Ward.

I didn't mean for that to happen." he still sags a bit even as the half-orc tries to smooth things over with him.
"Teleported? I do believe he was just sucked down to the nine hells!" Lash insists to Theroc and Reena. "Look, I get you have your issues with Lady Elara but those don't need be our issue... I just want to find the damned trinket and get it somewhere safe before any more of the crew, or me myself, go poof! Trust me sir, we have no other agenda than that..."
