Jasper heaves a sigh. “Dammit, they’re gone,” They say between breaths. Then they notice the pin and pick it up. “Hello, what’s this?”
(Investigation or history check to identify the pin? Rolled on my character sheet so it should come up in game log: 12 for investigation or 10 for history.)
Magnus will move over to one of the shuttered windows and see if he can peer inside or open one of the shutters. Then he will look around to see if the apartment is a 1-story or a 2-story and see if there is anyway to climb up to a balcony or 2nd story window to get inside.

Jasper examines the pin carefully...something about it seems vaguely familiar but he cannot place it.

The apartment is on the ground floor and 1 story. There is another apartment above it accessed by some stairs to the right.
He can peer through the crack at the edge of the shutters but it is quite dark within the apartment......some judicious use of force or perhaps a more subtle method might be able to open the shutters,
Normont takes a final look at the murder scene and then heads off after Dev, his thoughts still filled by the conflicting emotions he is feeling. The mixture of excitement at the prospect of solving a murder case battling with the sadness and pity for the victim. He ultimately rationalises them by determining the only thing left to do for this Conroy Pekese fellow is to bring his killer to justice.
As they travel, he marvels at Dev's knowledge of the town and his ability to circumvent Watch patrols by finding alleys and cut throughs that he himself had not even known existed. He wished he had time to chart their passage, but the speed with which Dev led them, whilst ensuring their passage went seemingly unnoticed, was just too fast to rationalise where they had travelled.
"Your knowledge of the town layout is impressive, Dev", he whispers as they pause for a moment.
“Oh…I…um..,” Dev doesn’t know how to respond to Normont’s compliment. Gloomily, the tiefling’s thoughts fill in gaps which are not there.
‘He’s probably thinking, “no wonder Dev’s an outcast, he’s too scared to walk down the middle of the street as anyone else would!” ‘
But Dev isn’t bothered particularly at the dark flowering of these hurtful thoughts. ‘That’s just the way people are,’ he would justify, if pressed, ‘and anyhow it’s true.’
Instead, he quietly thanks Normont, his eyes evasive, and continues onward.
“Um, it’s right through here and under the thing then past the rat zone,” he says. “Stay on this side, cuz, dogs.”
"Uh eww, rats. I hope we get to those others soon. Hopefully they arn't running into anything dangerous like we almost did." Nerak continues inching along the side around the dogs, following behind Dev.
Lokilia closely follows Dev as well. "I'm sure they're just waiting for the signal from Dev, following his plan. So they'll be fine," she says with utmost confidence.
As they continue, Normont's curiosity gets the better of him, and as they are skirting around areas that may contain dogs and rats, he starts to question the others casually.
"With your local knowledge, I assume Dev you are local to Drynna, or at least you've been here a while? And what of you Lokilia, and you Nerak? Where do you hail from, and what brings you to Drynna?", he whispers.
His eyes scan the shadows as they move, not so much worried about rats, but dogs can be quite sizeable compared to his small stature.
"Hey Nerak, if you spot anything from up there, don't forget to whisper a warning by the way", he adds looking way up at the dragonborn.
To Normont, Dev assents laconically, “Yeap,” but in a tone which suggests a journey as tortuous as it was static, not unlike the winding passageways the cohort now traverses.
’At the end of the day, we’ll still be right where we started.’
But too, the hopeful image of his parents, well fed for the first time in years, lends energy to his step.
Theron tries to open the door to number 11.

After a few moments Quinn is certain there is no one in the vicinity, invisible or not.

The group notes a number of Watch patrols slowly, without any haste, making their way towards the alley.
But the four companions, aided by the rain and local knowledge avoid all of them easily.
( You are about halfway there at this point.)
