Lokilia passes on the shoes. "I imagine your shoes are far too big for me to fill!" she says with a laugh.
Dev glows with the compliment and his joy starts him humming quietly in satisfaction. His music floats over the scene like a calming blanket and lends an air of ease and confidence to the others as they cross after him. If anyone gets into a difficult situation while on the bridge, they can reach for his calming music just the same as they reach for the safety line. (bardic inspiration. I have 3 dice. One for Quinn since he’s taking up the rear. Who else wants?)
Everyone makes it safely across, Lokilia has a little troubled as a stone falls out from beneath one of her feet and she momentarily lets go of the rope, but Dev is there to provide an encouraging tune.
Normont is very tentative as he takes his first step onto the bridge, although he knows that he is the lightest of all of them and so should be ok. He tries to take his mind off the precarious situation he is in by determining to learn a little masonry, and perhaps pick up some tools for that and some carpenter's tools. Of course he can't carry everything at once, which would be a problem.
As his mind wanders and he keeps his focus on the next step he will take, he is a little surprised when he takes the final step off the bridge.
"Well that was something. It may look a bit worn down, but still standing strong. That's what comes from good craftsmanship", he says as he moves over to check this side of the bridge in case he needs to make any extra repairs before the far larger and heavier Earth Genasi crosses. Feeling satisfied, he sends Amber back to assist Quinn.
Once across it is only a few hundred metres to the eastern edge of the ridgeline and looking down the steep but traversable slope you can see more trees and hints of the Mooren River Run through the thick pines.
Beyond the river the mountains climb and somewhere beyond where you can see lies a valley.....and your destination...
Before they leave the bridge behind, Normont instructs Amber to retrieve the rope from the other side, coiling it and putting it away along with the grappling hook.
As the group look down through the trees and sees the glint of water, he sends Amber to scout for a way across the river.
"Will we be lucky and find a bridge over the river as well?", he muses as Amber flies off.
Looking out across the valley to the mountains beyond, Dev’s breath sticks in his throat, his eyes filling to their edges with the unspoiled natural beauty of the vista. He lingers for a long moment as the others head down the hillside, trying to memorize every detail. When the last companion is almost out of view, he suddenly remembers himself.
“Wait for me!, he shouts, rushing after the others. Later, as they walk, poetry and song quietly pours from him, spontaneously, extemporized, yet as fluently as if he were reciting from memory.
Quinn will smile as he hears his young fiendish friend's melodies. He will offer to carry anyone if they need a break from the walk. Once he begins to see the city his worries rise, as Quinn is more of a fan of the quite nature of the wild rather than the hustle and bustle of such a city.
"We can always swim," Lokilia offers as they contemplate crossing the river. "Who cares if we get a little wet. Although maybe we'll find some other way." She glances out across the vista as well before she quickly continues along with the others.
"It wasn't the wet I was most worried about, although it is likely to be freezing water", Normont replies to Lokilia. "It was more the prospect of getting washed down river. I'm not the strongest swimmer. I wonder if the rope is long enough to use the same trick as the ravine. I guess time will tell".
(OOC: @Zelock, Quinn will be happy to know that Mooren River Run is the river not a city )
"There is also the possibility of things in the water as well that might not like us entering their domain." Magnus mentions. "Otherwise I can take care of our wet clothes, will just take a few minutes of casting. Though if we do come across some bridge somewhere, that woudl probably be ideal. Either way, all of that is in front of us." Sighing, Magnus continues walking with the rest of the group forward.
Dev is terrified of water. He learned how to swim on the relatively still waters of Mooren Lake of course, although he never enjoyed it like the other kids seemed to do. But the thought of being dragged along by a river’s current or worse, the ocean’s tides, makes a knot form in the gangly teen’s belly.
“Ummm…,” he says licking his lips, which suddenly feel dry, “I know how to make a raft, I think. I mean my pop taught me how once before… when he could still see. Maybe that would be better than erm…,” he can’t make himself say ‘swimming’ and he leaves the sentence hanging unfinished.
The group begins to descend the ridge, carefully picking their way down scree-slopes and eroded paths, as they descend they can see small groups of chamois clinging to the bare stone and eating lichen and wildflowers that grow there, as the group descends the groups of chamois begin to watch and then follow them, drawing closer. though still hundreds of yards away...

"See? No problem!" Lokilia says once she's across. She gives Dev a smile. "Though I think your musical talents certainly helped me out there a bit!"
