Magnus wakes to the horn sounding somewhere in the forest and groggily stands up wiping the sleep from his eyes. He sees the group emerge from the forest and tries to rack his brain if his cobalt teaching ever taught him anything about such a group. He then stands and hearing Dev talk casually steps to his side and places a reassuring hand on Dev's shoulder, whispering so as not to talk over Dev's comments, "Go on you got this."
History: 10 (seems Magnus pays about as much attention in school as I did.)
Dev awakens, a deep diagonal indentation showing where his face pressed against a seam in his pack while he slept. His hair is matted on one side and poofs out on the other. Surprised by the appearance of the furry figures, he stands woozily. Almost before conscious thoughts enter his sleep-fogged mind, the teenager hears the sound of his voice and realizes he is talking.
”Hi there. Good morning. We decided to make a big fire so we wouldn’t alarm anyone cuz we didn’t want to look like we were sneaking cuz we aren’t. We know these are probably your lands cuz we saw the markers but we need to make our way to the river if that’s ok. I can, um, entertain you with a song or a scene in exchange for your permission. But I just need a cup of coffee first. Do you want some?”
Dev rubs his eyes, blinking and suddenly stops speaking, his thoughts turning on himself anxiously. ‘What… was I thinking??’

Lokilia smiles as Dev jumps in, taking up conversation with these goblinoids. "Yes, good morning. to you all."
The bugbear woman looked at Dev curiously, " Yes...these are currently our lands. You may be allowed to travel to the river and beyond, but I must know something first. Have you partaken of the Black Milk?"
The two behind her made a fey sign to ward off evil as she said the last words.
The sleep clears from Normont's mind as the bugbear woman mentions the black milk, his interested now well and truly piqued.
He stands a little further back than the others, shaking his head, but he does not interject and lets them carry on with the conversation. As they do, he studies the bugbear woman and her two companions for any signs that they might have consumed the black milk.
"Black milk?" Lokilia says. "You must mean the black goo flowing down towards the river? No! That stuff is awful! We hope that we have fixed it so it will stop flowing. Though there is clearly still a lot all around here." She looks at the bugbears. "I take it you have not either. Is it a big problem here? How long has this been happening?"
Upon hearing the lady bugbear say the words Black Milk, Magnus is fully awake and attentive to every word she says and just how her and her companions are acting, to see if thye are any threat to the group.

" You? You found the source and stopped it? You must come with us and speak with Ugart"
" Many of our people took it into themselves, they want to keep doing so. We have confined the afflicted for now..."
" It was not here when we first arrived here but for some months now more and more has been found....this morning I saw more than I have ever seen before....but you say it is stopped?"
Normont can’t help but interject this time, “It was a malfunctioning far realm portal that we found up the slope that was leaking some form of black ichor. What you call Black Milk. The portal has been fixed now”.
He perks up a bit and adds, “Is Ugart your wise person? I would like to meet them”.
Dev's eyes widen at the words "black milk." Is that what they call coffee here?, he thinks, and is about to respond, "Why yes, I take black milk every morning when I can."
But as the others chime in, and as a bracing morning drink seems to retreat farther and farther from the present moment, he sighs, yawns disappointedly and begins to roll his bedroll, though perking an ear. Because the bug bears are interesting, at least. Less bug, and more bear than the tiefling imagined. But either way, better than the kids back in Drynna with their tricks and cruel games, he thinks. What an unexpected variety of people I am meeting on my travels, he reflects too, and a smile begins to quirk up on one side. His hair is still a mess and he tries in vain to fix it by running his fingers through its tangles.

He perks up a bit and adds, “Is Ugart your wise person? I would like to meet them”.
She regarded him curiously as he spoke, the majority of his words having little meaning to her.
" Ugart is the Barge Master and Chieftain of The Scarlet Badger. He will want to talk to you."
" You will follow now.", she stated as she turned to depart.
"Well of course", Normont replies, moving to gather his belongings. "Like I said, I would like to talk to him too. Just a few things to collect", he adds, as he swings his backpack onto his back. He holsters his pistol, but his shield he equips, just in case.
"To me, Amber", he calls out in gnomish, and Amber dutifully swoops down to land on his shoulder, not getting close to the bugbears.
When he is finally ready, he looks to his companions, seeing Dev ready before him. He waits for the others before starting to follow the lead bugbear.
Lokilia also quickly gathers her things, ready to follow the bugbears to see this Ugart. As they start off, she says to them, "It would have been nice if we could figure out a way to clean up all this black stuff that has already got out. As you clearly know, it's doing strange things to the plants and animals. It would be great if somehow we could remove what's already here."
Magnus realizes he had been paused in packing up his stuff the past couple of minutes as he was "secretly" listening in. Laughing at his own folly he finishes packing up and follows after the others.
You are led east through the trees towards the river as you are led through the trees you come across small pools of black liquid which you pass without issue, as you pass larger pools however you note the bugbears ahead start randomly pinching and slapping each other whenever a set of eyes drifts towards the liquid. The strange display is enough that you are able to keep from being drawn towards the pools but you are unsure what would have occurred if you had ventured through here alone.....
As you leave the trees and cross open ground towards the river bank you see dozens, certainly more than one hundred bugbears and other humanoids, all wearing red or flying torn red flags from their wood and leather domiciles. As you pass through them you feel all their eyes upon you, some hostile, some curious others relatively uninterested. The majority of labour seems to be the preparation and drying of fish and leather preparation with a small concentration of rough smithy's and carpenters. Coming to the river, the center of the camp seems to be a large, two-level log barge which flies a giant red flag marked with a stylised paw print, probably a badgers, drawn in a scrawl.
Dev is accustomed to being scrutinized and found wanting by others. The kids at school, the street gangs in Drynna. But the fact that some onlookers in this place are merely curious rather than antagonistic is encouraging. He follows the others to the barge, which he studies with interest. He’d seen many conveyances on Mooren Lake, but nothing quite like this.
Quinn looks around interested in the fish dye process and how folks are resisting the black pools. He wonders why there is so many and what or who did this.
As they travel, Lokilia is a bit concerned about all the black pools they pass. Though she smiles a bit as she sees how those they are following help each other ignore any allure to ingest from those pools. She looks about once they get to the large encampment of bugbears. She's a bit curious too about the other humanoids in the group. "You seem to have quite a nice village here," she observes, speaking to the bugbears leading them, though nobody in particular. As they approach the barge, she follows to go inside.
Normont wanders past the pools of black liquid, trying not to stare directly at them. After the incident before, he knows all too well the lure of the ichor. As they head further in, is interest is then piqued by the assortment of different species, and further by the carpenters and smiths.
But he doesn't deviate from following the female bugbear, reaching the barge and casting an eye over its condition before heading on board.
However, more importantly than that, he looks for any black liquid that is flowing into the river itself.
"Keep an eye out for the black ichor flowing into the river itself. Those fish may be tainted if it does", he whispers to the others.
