Normont regards Lokilia with a worried look that matches the Half-Elf's.
"I think we should go back for them, but we need to make sure we don't get separated again. I have some rope we can all hold on to", he suggests, motioning to his backpack where his silk rope is slung.
His shield is still up and his pistol trained on some random spot within the mist.
{OOC: His pistol will be trained on where he thinks Dev's voice came from, based on his previous perception check)
"Great idea!" Lokilia says as she grabs the rope. She isn't sure how Normont will grab it with his shield and pistol, so she ties one end to his pack. She drapes a loop over her left hand then passes the rope to Magnus. "We should hurry, Dev sounded like he was in trouble!"
he sees three figures through the mist, they are facing away from him but from the heights one is definitely Normont.
‘Why only three? Someone is missing!’
“Normont!,” Dev groans, breathlessly, but amplified by Thaumaturgy, his voice pierces the mist like a shout.
The teenager staggers through the gray half light toward the figures. Every step is a struggle, his body has lost the power to move it seems. That, and fear, slows him.
‘Another attack like that and I’ll be nothing more than a shaking pile of bones, unable to move. But I hurt it… that’s why it left. If it comes back, I’ll hurt it again!,’ he thinks, lending himself just enough courage to put one foot before the other.
On hearing his name, Normont spins around and spots Dev. He starts to rush over, totally forgetting that they were now tied together, and stops abruptly.
"Dev! Are you ok? Is Magnus with you?", he asks full of concern. He tries to get Lokilia and Quinn to move with him towards Dev so he can look him over.
Lokilia tries to quickly move with Normont. "Dev! Glad we found you!" She too looks at him with concern. "I heard your warning about the shadow, but never saw anything. What was it?"
Dev stumbles through the mist, almost falling into the supporting arms of his friends, his glance wheeling nervously all around, his breathing, labored. Only Thaumaturgy lends strength to his weak and trembling voice.
“No! I haven’t seen Magnus since… since I had to run… he’s not with you??”
Dev turns to face Lokilia in answer to her question, and now, up close, his terror and extraordinary weakness are shocking.
“The shadow! It almost killed me. I felt its hand inside me, it took away… so much… I can’t…,” Dev has no words to describe what has happened, but his dilated, wild eyes and limp legs, shaking like those of a newborn doe, are apparent to all.
“Magnus!” he trails off, looking back the way he came, his expression ashen with fear and concern.
Quien will say to Dev, “would you like me to carry you for a little while you get your strength back?” As for Magnus he is unsure of where is little friend went.
After hearing Dev's account and seeing how weak he looks, Lokilia is worried anew. "We'd best find Magnus now and get out of here!" She looks around to make sure there are no shadows somewhere about. (Perception: 19) She puts an arm around Dev, hoping to comfort him. "We'll get you out of here and make sure you're alright. Definitely should take up Quinn on his offer." She knows she doesn't have the strength to carry him.
"It's ok Dev, you are safe with us now", Normont says trying to console Dev. "Quinn and Lokilia are right, rest a while. But we need to stay together", he adds, holding up the rope for him to see that they have tied themselves together so they can't lose each other again.
He then looks back into the mist and raises his voice, "Magnus! Where are you, Magnus!".
Dev nods assent, his relief at finding Normont, Lokilia, and Quinn balanced by alarm that Magnus remains unaccounted for.
The teenager leans heavily on Quinn. “I can walk, I think. But if we have to hurry,” he meets the lava-red gaze of the big genasi, Dev’s firm expression showing that he’d need to be carried.
Reliving the moment they entered the ruins, Dev chatters in a nervous delirium. “It was like — like when I lull people to sleep — only I was the one, not sleepy, but scared. I had to get away and couldn’t think of anything else. And then the shadow was there. Did you feel the same thing?,” he asks the others.
"I felt something, but it was gone as quickly as it came. That was when you all ran off", Normont replies, the concerned look still on his face after not hearing any reply from Magnus.
"We are going to have to go further into the mist to look for Magnus. Assuming you are all up for it?", he says, gripping his shield and his pistol a little tighter. Amber is perched on his shoulder, staying close as well.
“I did hurt it. With my music,” the teenager responds, weakly. “I think that’s why did didn’t finish me off. It said, ‘Sharp scratches it makes in us,’ and then, ‘There are other morsels here to taste,' and then it left. I’m afraid it will attack Magnus next if we don’t get to him first!"
Lokilia nods. "Certainly sounds like that shadow was looking for more victims. Being a shadow, I'd bet most weapons won't hurt it. But I'd think magic could. But let's find Magnus and leave before it matters!" She makes sure Dev gets part of their rope, then looks at the others. "Which way do we go?" Realizing that there's been no response to Normont's calls, she is not sure which way that would be.
Normont verbalises what the others had not said, "If Magnus is not replying, we have no idea which way to go, or if we are in time at all".
"Magnus!", he calls again before speaking to Amber in Gnomish. There is a lot of head shaking from the homunculus, but eventually she takes to the sky and flutters off gingerly.
"Amber will look. Normally for a search party I would suggest splitting up, but not here. Certainly not here".
A thin reedy voice that Dev recognized as the Shadows slithered out from the mist to their west, " Magnus....where are you? Oh....don't fret...he'll be a long shortly....he's so empty now...."
Amber headed out into the mist initially unable to make anything much out but at least fairly concealed by her small size and flight within the mists....
Normont spins to face west and the direction of the voice.
"What are you? Leave Magnus alone, and show yourself!", he tries to order it, whilst he readies his pistol to fire on whatever hostile thing exists the mist.
He tries to keep himself and especially his shield between the voice and Dev, knowing his tiefling friend has already suffered at the hands? of the voice once.

( To smooth things out Quinn is now standing with Normont and Lokilia and Magnus is still somewhere in the mist. Wibbly-Wobbly Timey-Wimey.)
