Lokilia grabs a single pebble from her pouch and casts Magic Stone on it. With a quick motion, she creates a burst of air to propel it at the shadow. (Spell Attack: 18, Damage: 5)
Bullet, bolt and stone all strike the ground the shadow lies upon but it is hard to tell if the shadow is impacted or not......perhaps it is not...material...enough...yet...
Lokilia say, "Ok. Either that worked or... well, it's not going to work. We did our best. I'd say we get out of here!" There's again a bit of panic as she finishes her thought. She looks to Normont to see what his opinion is on leaving. She quickly checks on Dev, seeing how oblivious he is. He needs to get out of here. "Just look at Dev. Let's not make him stay here any longer."
Normont squints at where the shadow was, or is still, and then frowns. At Lokilia's prompt he turns to look at Dev.
"You're right, we should go. Perhaps if we report this place, the Cobalt Soul or the Chamber of Whitestone will send people to make it safe, or at least find out what it is that is happening here", he says.
He backs away a bit before turning, taking out the orb of direction and leading away.
The companions keep on moving carrying the body of their fallen friend, the ruins continue for some time though much sparser and more choked with snow and ice.
After some time you reach the edge of the plateau and look down into the snow cloaked valley, some way off you spot a tall dark stone tower partially buried in the snow....you estimate it will take you most of the day to reach it.
Normont had remained silent as they travelled through the ruins, the loss of Magnus weighing heavy on him. When they finally stand upon the plateau and look down into the valley, he decides it time to bring up painful subject.
"Should we bury Magnus here? It will be difficult with the ground frozen, but I am not certain it is right to continue carrying him. I think he might like to rest here overlooking the valley, a mysterious tower in the distance", he suggests.
(OOC: What do we know about Magnus’ last wishes? Burial, cremation, etc? In case he ever mentioned it ‘behind the scenes,’ so to speak: Religion: Crit! 20+3=23)

( Dev spends a lot of time by himself and is always on the lookout for material for new songs...sometimes this leads him to the strangest places....he recalls that Magnus had hinted about his membership in the Cobalt Soul...Dev knew little about them but he knew they had libraries and such and he remembered glimpsing a symbol of three eyes tattooed on the arm of Magnus' friend back at the Meadery. Normont : "Should we bury Magnus here? It will be difficult with the ground frozen, but I am not certain it is right to continue carrying him. I think he might like to rest here overlooking the valley, a mysterious tower in the distance", he suggests.
“I think…,” Dev says, very quietly, his voice a rough whisper, unheard. Under his hood, his eyes seem withdrawn and distant, and tears have run silently down his cheeks as the companions proceeded, leaving dried, salty tracks, unattended, like faint rutted roads to ancient villages long since destroyed. The teenager clears his throat and tries again.
“I think Magnus is supposed to be… to not be buried. I heard about the followers of loun… from a… friend… when I was younger. The Cobalt Soul – I think when they die, they have to be, like, put in a tomb. Like, in a wall?, in a library or temple. The kind with the zig-zag walls…” His voice, usually so eerie and musical, falls flat, emotionless, vacant.
"Really?", Normont asks Dev, intrigued. "Well, I guess we will have to carry our friend further then, and see what we come across", he says, looks to Quinn who is actually the we in question.
(OOC: Morbid I know, but did Magnus have anything useful on him? Doesn't have to be a search, just from memory might be better)
Lokilia glances at Dev as he shares what he thought about burying Magnus. 'What sort of library has zig-zag walls?'she wonders. But not wanting to look ignorant, she says nothing about that.'Clearly something they must have in cities,'she thinks. "I can't say I understand his wishes, it only makes sense to me that in death we ought to return to the natural world we came from. But if this Ioun thing is important to him, then we should see it done. But does that mean we carry him with us for... well, how long might it be?"
"It's hard to say, Lokilia. Perhaps there is somewhere suitable amongst the ruins we heading to", Normont answers with a shrug.
Looking down at the tower in front of them, "And perhaps this tower is an outpost of those ruins, which would mean we are drawing close. Or perhaps it will be suitable itself, if only temporarily".
"We should get moving if we want to camp indoors tonight", he says and then starts to trudge onwards, ever grateful for the magic boots he now wears.
Dev’s appreciation for Quinn and the genasi’s formidable strength to carry Magnus hour after hour — but moreover, the charitable generosity to do so without complaint — leads the lad to ponder questions of honor stacked against questions of need, appropriateness, and of practicality.
“There’s a story, I heard the temple priests talking about it in the Drynna square once when I was little… they didn’t know I was hiding from the big kids nearby… and they said that to know someone is to love them. Well… we all loved Magnus. And if it is… fitting to entomb him in a place of knowledge, maybe… maybe what we know of him will be enough to comfort him in his afterlife with loun.”
Dev removes a parchment and pen from his pack, shivering slightly in the cold. “Here. We can each write our farewells and tell him something new that he can think about. And then bury him with it. It’s not perfect, but… but we can’t know what will become of us. More spirits could kill is all tomorrow, and then, why have we carried him from one place to another? We can bury him here, now, with our good wishes and a few pieces of knowledge and our questions to ponder for eternity. And then of all of us, we will know for sure that at least he will.. rest. In peace. Or at least, in as much peace as we can offer him.”
"An excellent point, Dev", Normont says in praise of the young tiefling. "I would be happy to write some notes about artifice for Magnus. I am sure he would appreciate that. And maybe the tower over there would be intriguing enough to give him some peace".
Dev seems oblivious to these actions…
