"I always wanted to learn more languages, but alas never got the time", he replies as he examines the disc. Unless it shows up as harmful to his detect magic he will press it to see if it closes the door.
"It is obviously very advanced. Try simply asking it to display in common. You never know", he says with a smile and a shrug.
Not able to understand anything from the crystal screen, Lokilia turns away. "Yea, I suppose," she murmurs in response to Normont. But she slowly wanders over towards the stair leading down. Her nose wrinkles a bit. "I don't really like the smell. Something's off about it. I'm just not sure how long we should just sit here if... something is down there."
(She tries to judge the time as well - if it weren't for Dev's fatigue, is it about time the group should be taking a long rest?)
Seeing Lokilia walk away from the crystal screens, Normont decides to see if he can find a way to change the language, either by voice control or some kind of interface.
"We should set a watch whilst we rest, and then explore when we are feeling better. Especially poor Dev, he looks shattered", he says as he looks.
Investigation: 7+5=12 (Passive: 15)
(OOC: I believe DM said it would take us most of the day t reach here from the ridge, so assuming we are due a rest. That does not mean he will let us get one of course)

Indeed you are all quite sore and tired from the march over....or rather through....the snow to here....
Normont investigates the screen Lokilia activated.....he's unsure of the principles it works through but takes a guess and touches a small box in the corner of the screen...narrowing his eyes as it expands listing yet more lines of text. He touches the first one and the text on the screen changes to a form of Common...there are much fewer options on the screen and the text is bigger and more defined.
Juvenile Pedagogic Mode:- Basic Principles of Function- Learn, Test, Other.
Lokilia looks around for a place to settle in to rest. Preferably a bit away from the stair. "I can keep the first watch I guess. Or if you rather I can do it later." As she settles down she notices Normont got the screen to change. "Oh! Can you read it now?"
"Indeed, it seems to be some in some kind of educational mode now", Normont replies, pressing the Learn option.
"I would say for you to get some rest and I will take the first watch, but I have a feeling I might be more distracted by this device, so we may need to double up".
"Hmm, well I can maybe stay up for a little bit while you're working on that Normont," Lokilia offers. "But then I've got to get some sleep!" She looks over at Quinn. "You sleep now. We'll have Normont take the first watch, then you Quinn, then I'll get up again, then finally we'll see if Dev can take the last watch." Her eyes drift over to where he's asleep. "He probably needs the rest the most."
(OOC - Hopefully we can work it out so Lokilia and Normont are up for a bit, then everyone gets their full rest.)

Normont spends his ' watch' scrolling through menus and reading what to him are relatively basic entries on such basic subjects as Chemistry, Physics, Biology and other subjects to a level that he is familiar with though he suspects it is beyond what the average citizen of Drynna knows.....perhaps not Whitestone, but the average is a little skewed there....if this is the level that young children were learning at in the past.....what else has been lost over time....he is about to start scrolling History when he realises he is well over his watch and needs to sleep immediately if he is to get enough rest.
Quinn and Lokilia can do similar on their watch though it means Perception checks on watch ( already rolled 'behind screen') were at disadvantage but Craft and History checks for the next day will be at Advantage.
Nothing occurs on Normont and Quinns watch but towards the end of Lokilias she happens to glance over the edge and could swear for a second she sees Dev looking up at her from about four levels down, but when she looks over he is fast asleep...blinking there is nothing below once more....
When Dev is roused for his quite short watch there is a faint sound of crying somewhere below but it is impossible to determine where....
Normont ensures Amber stays on watch all through the night, seeing as she can't suffer the effects of exhaustion like everyone else.
When he wakes, he asks Amber and the others if anything happened that he should know about, then can't help but head straight to the screen to see what else can be learned.
"The information is fascinating. I mean, nothing new to me yet, but I expect it gets far more advanced. I could honestly my days here at this screen alone".
When Dev is roused for his quite short watch there is a faint sound of crying somewhere below but it is impossible to determine where....
When Normont and Quinn finally rouse Dev, they find that his complexion has depended to a healthy brick-red hue once again, and likewise, the dark circles have disappeared from under his eyes and his cheeks filled out with the baby fat which still shows there even as his body has elongated and filled out just slightly over the weeks the companions have known him.
Dev is at first utterly disoriented, expecting in his half-awake state to have camped in the wild, or at least, in a cavern overlooking the snowdrifts. It takes a few moment to grasp where he is, after whispered questions to Normont and Quinn to fill him in. He does not remember, for the life of him, having entered the tower. Yet, here they were. And once his confusion retreats, he feels much, much better than he remembers feeling the prior day.
One look at Magnus’ body, where it lays, tied within the fallen mage’s sheets and bedroll, is enough to discourage the momentary hope that his death had been only a dream.
But the others see that Dev is capable of taking the final watch, and he does so, guiltily noticing the frazzled tiredness in Normont’s eyes after the gnome’s long night.
Dev notices the crystal screens and perhaps Normont had given him some brief instruction as to their use, and during his watch, while very acutely alert to the odd sounds coming from below, the tiefling’s curiosity gets the best of him and he cannot help but try to read the screens himself, as Normont had been doing. Yet when the others awake, they likely find Dev peering pensively into the opening in the center of the tower floor.
“I heard crying… down there,” he offers to any who ask. "But I haven't been able to see what made the sound."
Normont turns back from the screen, a frown creasing his face.
"Strange things are happening here. Fleeting glimpse of things, odd sounds we can't pinpoint. I wonder what is causing them. A group hallucination perhaps? Or something external messing with our senses? Ghosts of the past?", he wonders out loud.
"Anyway, I am glad to see you looking better, Dev. That shadow creature was, well terrifying, to say the least".
Once Lokilia is awake she gathers her things up quickly. She takes a few moments to pray and set in her mind the magic that she thinks she might need for the day. (Replacing Purify Food and Drink and Speak with Animals for Detect Magic and Faerie Fire.
She makes a point to come over to Dev and check in him. "You manage to sleep alright? You look much better today!" She gives Normont a mildly cross look as he mentions the shadow creature. She gives Dev a worried look, but realizes he certainly still remembers what happened. And there's the reminder of Magnus' body still with them as well. "Yea, we should get moving and see what is going on in this tower. Best be on our guard," she warns.
Dev nods in response to his gnomish and elven friends. "Thanks, Normont. Thanks, Lokilia. I... really feel a lot better. Do you feel ok?" The tiefling thought they looked fine, but it never hurts to ask. In response to Lokilia's cross look about the shadow, Dev holds her eyes and shrugs shyly. 'It's okay,' he seems to say.
"You're right," Dev says to Quinn and Lokilia, "we should move quickly. It feels... strange in here. But, I heard crying earlier. Maybe someone down there is hurt. Or maybe it's another spirit...," he finishes, frowning.
"I mean, we're here," he says to everyone, part question, part reflection, his eyes on Magnus' motionless form, "to investigate this place and then report back to the Cobalt Soul, right? I mean, for Magnus. And I guess, with him gone, who knows what their response will be. But, I mean," the teenagers glance sweeps their surroundings then returns to the companions conveying awe, "I'd like to see what else is in here, as long as we um can get out? Like, fast? If we find something scary?"
Turning back to the darkness stretching down from the base of the tower, he says, "If we're investigating, I guess there's only one way to go..."
Normont shakes his head.
When Normont presses the disc the doors close, just as they close completely he could swear he sees two vague figures out in the snow.....
Normont almost reaches out a hand to touch the disc a second time, when he thinks he spots the figures in the snow, but he stops just short.
"Well, I guess we should make ourselves comfortable", he says as he looks down to the sleeping figure of Dev, who is going no-where for a while.
