Normont is not surprised by the answer he receives. Well, perhaps the part about where these things came from. The Abyss. His mind briefly processes that information, as it searches for anything he knows about that plane.
Intelligence Check: 12+3=15 (+2 if Arcana or Investigation)
( There be Demons.....is the overwhelming bulk of Normonts knowledge......these things don't seem to match any of the demons in the stories he has heard...but the majority of stories told in the barracks involving demons were succubi related. He assumes a wizard or similar summoned these things.)
"So, you are demons", Normont says finally satisfied he knows enough about what is going on and that he is far enough away to be out of melee. "That makes my answer easy. I will stay", he says with a smile.
"And destroy you", he adds as he brings his pistol to bear on Faux de Rolo and pulls the trigger, with Amber following his lead from her perch on his shoulder.
(OOC: Should we roll initiative before Normont's and Amber's attacks? He would also retreat as much as possible if he has a full turn to use)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Quinn strikes out but Dryden steps easily back out of the way, " Surely I taught you better than that.", she came about the side and levelled a haymaker at Quinns temple...
Almost immediately Lord De Rolo stepped forward and clubbed at Normont with his revolver....
Two more figures climbed over the edge of the balcony dropping to all fours between Normont and the hidden Dev, then rising to their feet looking about for the others.....Devs Mother and Father called out, " Dev, Son. Where are you hiding?"
On the level below barely glimpsed through the rising poison cloud the collecting of robed elderly and children began to form a crush around the two Dwendalians.
Normont had not been expecting Faux de Rolo to move so fast, but he managed to block the demons attacks with his shield. From point blank range, he attempts to shoot it in the face, calling for Amber to follow suit.
Seeing two more appear, calling out for Dev, makes him very nervous.
"They are demons, summoned from your memory", he calls out, just in case there was any doubt.
Action: Shoot Faux de Rolo with pistol (disadvantage as within 5 feet) - To Hit: (16,3)+5=8, Damage: 2+3=5 [magical piercing] Bonus Action: Amber Force Strike on Faux de Rolo (disadvantage as within 5 feet) - To Hit: (17, 13)+4=17, Damage: 1+2=3 [force]
Normont fires but the shape-stealer slips aside then Amber attacks, the creature hisses in pain in a very un-De Rolo manner seemingly having discounted Amber as a danger.
Below through the haze of poison a red skinned child sized being shimmered into view and latched onto one of the childrens heads driving its sharp tail into their neck over and over, The Dwendalian woman raised her hands over her head and a small mote of flame drifted into the press of approaching pensioners and children and then exploded into a massive ball of flame, leaving many of the attackers staggered and aflame.
Spider version of Lokilia suddenly morphs into a Giant Spider. (Bonus Action use of Wild Shape) She will launch a web at the nearest of the four demons - she tells herself they're demons despite what they might look like. (Web Attack: 18; on hit the target is restrained. As an action, the restrained target can make a DC 12 Strength check, bursting the webbing on a success. The webbing can also be attacked and destroyed - AC 10; hp 5)
After launching the web she keeps to the wall, moving to be out of reach of the attackers.
Quinn sees Dryden suddenly coated in webbing from somewhere out in the darkness.
The cloud of poisonous gas reaches the level the companions are fighting on but it is concentrated on the side of the shaft away from them currently, below the armoured man moves boldly forward and begins laying into the flaming children slaying them where they stand.
" Sie! Are you alright? Ve must vin through to Ubo!"
Deep below shrill screams began to replace Ubos ranting....
Two more figures climbed over the edge of the balcony dropping to all fours between Normont and the hidden Dev, then rising to their feet looking about for the others.....Devs Mother and Father called out, " Dev, Son. Where are you hiding?"
Anger flares hot in the tiefling’s heart at this illusion. He misses his parents deeply, wrenchingly so. Dev’s breath comes in gasps for a long moment before his heated response. “You’re not my real parents,” he calls, voicing both a previously unacknowledged truth about the human pair that raised him and a challenge to the doppelgangers now standing in front of him. “And remember? You’re blind. But don’t let that stop you. Just follow my voice.”
(Dev hopes that the shape-stealers will cover that detail ;)
The thrumming coming from Dev crescendos until it suddenly elides into a funky jam with a cracking back-beat. Dev's hiding place disappears as he slides on his toes from his crouched position to standing, his horns pointing at the shape-stealers. His eyes are yellow moons setting over a horizon of brick red, sparkling with electricity when he launches into song, crooning with rhythmic intensity and moonwalking backwards 30’ away from these new foes:
“Ah, your butt is mine, gon' tell you right, ah
Just show your face in broad daylight, ah
I'm tellin' you on who I feel, ah
Gonna hurt your mind, don't shoot to kill
Because I'm bad, I'm bad, (Bad, bad, really, really bad)
You know I'm bad, I'm bad (Bad, bad)”
(This music lends 1d6 bardic inspiration to whoever calls dibs on it first this round.)
Quinn strikes out hitting Dryden solidly in the abdomen, the orcish woman grunted but seemed only slightly hurt. She began tearing at the webbing to free herself.
Lord De Rolo stepped forward again and tried to batter Normont his revolver....
Devs Parents advanced on him grasping for his face and body with their hands....
On the level below the flaming and wounded figures began climbing the walls to try and escape from the two Dwendalians.
