The lad is almost certainly hiding something and is scared that his mouth has gotten him into deep waters, Dev is unsure as to what is happening but he is reminded of a few years ago when the Myriad sent members north from Stillben to try and establish roots in Drynna and is, for some reason possibly the boys demeanour, reminded of some of what they learned at the vineyard......
"Well, Mr Anderson, yours is a name I will remember. And that of this friend of yours, Bavvrik. I would suggest you decline any dares of a criminal nature in the future, unless you do wish to get into trouble", Normont replies to the boy.
He determines to pass these names on to Trish when he next sees her, and to ask about newcomers causing trouble.
A note in the boy’s voice pulls Dev’s attention, and his memory spirals to a few years ago when the Myriad sent members north from Stillben to try and establish roots in Drynna. Dev feels ill thinking of this young lad caught in their web.
He turns back to him, a look of shock combined with trepidation in his eyes. His voice is eerie and cool.
“You’re hiding something, aren’t you. Don’t be afraid, we’re not going to hurt you.
“But something is wrong and it’s putting your family and everyone you care about at risk. Tell me what you haven’t said yet. And I want you to take me to Bavvrik.”
(Persuasion: 11+5=16)
He looks up at his companions. “Trust me?,” he pleas, “I have a…feeling about this.”
Normont nods to Dev, showing he is completely accepting of the young tiefling's feeling about the situation. If there was some new criminal element in Whitestone, it was his duty to find out, after all.
"Trust your feelings, Dev", he says, reaching up to pat his friend on the lower back and giving him a little static shock that focusses his mind.
Andrew got to his feet securing the foodstuffs within his vest, he gave Dev a long look and looked a little like he might vomit for a moment, " Ok."
" I'll take you. But not him.", he pointed at Normont.
" If I take a Pale Guard there.....I'm done. You lot look like out of Towner's....I can spin that....but he'll get us all killed if someone recognised him."
Lokilia gives the gnome a quick glance, "The boy makes some sense there, I think." Though she admittedly is a bit anxious about not having Normont's presence with them. She then addresses Andrew, "Is this Bavvrik a friend of yours? I think you understand we aren't out to get you or your friend. But if this is some larger thing we'd like to find out."
" A friend.....more an acquaintance....he's.....", he sighed heavily. " He's new to town, a few months ago.....bit rough around the edges but we all liked him. He smuggled out beer to us younger lads and even managed to stop the butchers lads from beating up Lourdie. All good stuff, and he'd give us jobs to do and we'd get half.....nothing bad mind....a few pastries off the early morning delivery trays, a few ingots from the smithy, a few dozen eggs from the Brangles...."
Dev-
A slight change came over the lad Dev noted as he spoke with Lokilia......he was straight with Dev, terrified of Normont, wary of Quinn......but Lokilia he was trying to impress......it was, truth be told, more than a little sad considering....everything...but it seemed to be working for them.
" Then a couple of weeks ago some more of his family arrived and things began to switch up....more serious mind.....then the dares started....bigger takes....more public....middle of the day stuff....not sure why....he and his family are doing other stuff, they don't ask us along....well, sometimes they ask Jemima, but I don't think she likes to go with them..."
Normont listens to Andrew, immediately concerned at his statement that a Pale Guard presence would get them all killed. But he remains silent, listening and mentally noting down all the names mentioned.
He thinks of the arguments he could give to try and persuade the boy it was safe for him to come along, but does not give voice to them.
He simply looks up at Dev and quietly says, "What do you think?".
He does have his own business to take care of, and if the others could gather some evidence or at least identify the key players and where they operated, he could bring in the Pale Guard then. They wouldn't mobilise purely on the word of a young child who they know is a thief after all.
Dev can’t explain it, but a nagging fear takes hold that he will be responsible for something terrible happening to the boy. Over cheese and sausage.
“It’s…cool to find something you’re good at, isn’t it. I have a feeling that you’re very good at dares… even though you know they might be… like, not exactly something you would tell your dad about...
“And I think you’re probably very good at… spinning… stories. Don’t you agree, Lokilia?,” Dev gives her a look, trying to convey that he thinks Andrew is trying to impress her.
“I love to spin stories too, but… different kinds of stories? Like acting on a stage?
“But… the thing is… I understand why you don’t want to be seen with a Guard. Definitely. But maybe it’s better if you’re not really seen with any of us.
“So, can you just take us to the place where Bavvrik is? Don’t go in with us, just take us there and you go home. We’ll talk with Bavvrik. That way, no one connects you with us…”
Andrew listened closely to Dev looking more and more relieved as he spoke, " Or....I could just give you the address? So then I don't need to go there at all? But I still need to drop this stuff off as proof......but I can do that tomorrow.....yeah.....ok."
" Brundle Street, above the second hand store. Glinnicks. You know it?", he queried Normont. Who did indeed, Glinnicks was a second hand store and pawn shop but the owner was a seemingly senile old gnome who the Guard had never been able to pin intent on. Normont knew the apartment above was usually offered by Gimble Glinnick on short term leases at exorbitant rates but being only a few blocks away from the centre of the Northern Ward it had a great location.
Lokilia isn't entirely sure what Dev is hinting at but does get that he thinks she should go along with what he's said. "I'd definitely say you're good at spinning stories Andrew." She smiles when he tells them where Bavvrik is staying. "You're sure that waiting for tomorrow won't get you in trouble with them? Because we really don't want to make things bad for you."
“All right,” says Dev. “But here’s the deal. I don’t want you to bring those provisions to Bavvrik. Keep them for yourself. Or even better, return them and apologize. The shopkeeper wont be mad, they’re paid for. Don’t get involved with Bavvrik’s friends. I think they’re up to no good. If… you like to spin yarns and take risks, I’ve got a better way that won’t get you in trouble. Find me at the Lilac Inn. I’ll show you. Ok?,” Dev insists.
Normont nods when asked about Glinnicks. Why was he not surprised that old gnome was somehow involved? Gimble Glinnick gave gnomes a bad name in the city, in his opinion.
"I'd listen to the lad, if I were you. You have your whole life ahead of you, and you don't want to fall in with a bad crowd and ruin it", he suggests.

Andrew looked back and forth between the two, gave a slight nod though it was hard to tell who that was aimed at, then ran off to the west.....keeping the goods on him as he did so....
